  1. It is only two halves if they are the same size.
  2. Consider it training for the race when the idiot stops in the middle of the track to check if he has a puncture. Every stop and start is micro interval training Smile and wave.

  6. Last night I statred converting an old Giant Igauna to a single speed. Ihave decided that I am going to use the rear deraileur as tensioners. My plan is after all to be a cheap skate. But I cant shake the feeling that deraileur is going to move a bit sideway, that chain slide off the single cog and I end up sitting on my nuts. To keep the deraileur in place I have pulled it into position and then wound the cable around a nut and bolt and fastend. This will keep the tension but I have no peace. Has anyone else done this ?
  7. Who is this lance Armstrong everybody talks about ? Can't find him in the record books
  8. There are no redlights on the spruit.
  9. I have learnt that I need a different backpack. It is fine for walking, but sitting bent over for an hour does not work. it feels as if the backpack only makes contact at one spot on my spine. I need advise on where to go and find a curved one.
  10. So I have got my hands on a stock standard ten year old Giant Iguana.
  11. So I stepped on my 2 year old's spiderman sunglasses and cracked the frame at the bottom of one of the lenses. Has anyone ever managed to glue sunglasses together again. Or is it going humpty's way ?
  12. Weight on the outside: It was explained to me in the following way. Your contact area with the ground is the bottom of your wheel. if you weigth is on the outside the line from there to the ground is closer to the vertical than when your weight is on the inside. ie. Pushing the wheel downswards into the ground. When your weight is on the inside of the turn you push towards the contact in a direction more paralell to the ground causing the wheel to slide
  13. Most of the cyclist I know are professionals. Engineers, accountants, it and such. They make enough money to have the time and means to enjoy their hobby. If you don't have burning passion to be something specific like pro cyclist or diver .find something that would not suck the life out of you to pay the bills and then enjoy every moment you have spare. If you have passion that can pay the bills you will never have to work. Most of us have to work to pay for the passion. What ever you do, do it with out brakes.
  14. I have been using cleats for years. Never did I fall over at a stop street or when some lesser mortal stopped to push a rideable section right in front of me. Then one day in the starting chute I bliksemed over. Two hundred other people enjoyed.
  15. The best groupset is the one on the bike your riding down some awesome single track. The biggest problems that I have found/done/seen are maintenance and abuse related. Not even top of the range derailuers want to work under very heavy load ( ask 2010 tdf winner for a reference ) . Dirty cable housings are not a problem only on electronic shifters. Same goes for stretched cables Worn chains aka chain stretch and the subsequent damage to blades and cassettes are also known to affect shifting performance. The whole religious debate about lube. If it makes a noise pour something on it . If it is dirty clean it. If it is broken replace it. As far as weight it concerned 90% ( made up percentage ) of rider would gain more by loosing it on the engine than by cutting it from the bike. Spend more time training and less time in bed responding to forum posts
  16. My Racing ralphs evo did not do well at groenkloof . I had to plug three times in one ride. On my previous steed I had a pair of crossmarx they lasted forever and a day. They are impossible to remove with only two hands if you need to put in tube. Or so I have heard. In the three years I had them on I only had to plug them twice.
  17. After seeing Evans descding out from under Wiggans in the criterium. I fear that Wiggans might loose a few seconds on stage 16. Frank too, but that might be more than seconds. Who else descends like a demon ?

  21. You can buy quick drying towels from you friendly "Look I am a outdoorsy kind " Cape union Mart. Or buy it from you local midas or hardware as a quick drying car cloth and pay a 5th of the price. Hoora for cheapskates.
  22. So, I put on some Racing Ralphs, They are nice fast and grippy but as fragile as my ego. How harse is the surface down to scotsborough, Ive had crossmarks on in a previous life. Tough as nails but a bit slower or maybe I was slow back then. I really dont want to spend an hour a day plugging and pumping. Any other suggetions. Yes they have to fit on my 29ers rims.
  23. My theory goes like this. The guy or gal with the best legs win.
  24. Cycling is not a cheap alternative transport. It is a bloody expensive past time. My car is cheaper to maintain
