One year at the Giant's Castle challenge I met a man swearing all the way at a buddy that took his riding shoes out of the car for some or other reason. He rode the 75 km with vellies and spd pedals.

Hi. What does this mean Specification: 1/2" × 3/32" or 1/2”x11/128” on a chain specifications. Are there chains that only fit certain chainrings ? I know that the width of a 10 speed chain is less that a 8 speed chain. but is there diferencie in depth and leght of a link ? Two days later but here goes. Shops that are in affluent areas where price is not the customers biggest concern can by making changes survive and complete on quality. Most of us cyclist that can affoed to spend R20k on a bicycle fall in this market. Move a little further away and the small store has no leg to stand on. It cant adapt to the game of buying bulk and strong arming producers. Then we move a little further down the chain where spaza shops provide the service because the customers biggest concern is transport. Produce is expensive but the spaza shop is the only supplier. A comment was made a bout not selling the large brand but that the LBS concentrate on service and niche brands. The large brands is the bread and butter in the retail business of the LBS. That is what puts the kids through school. The service and value add is what put them in a good school. This bread and butteris now moved to he warehouse stores as they can negotiate/strong arm producers into lower prices. The LBS employs local kids that try their hand at a career in cycling ( mechanical/racer/businessmen). Your warehouse employs people that look for work. No passion for the sport in question needed. Show up for work and now on which shelf you find the 29" tubes and you are good. A larger component of you Mom and Pop stores expenses stays in the area. Warehouse stores takes the money out of the area. The system is not fair/equal. the rich will get richer. That is just the way it goes. Every body fights for their piece of pie. Some gets to buy the bakery. Hippie greetings.

My statement is not limited to Cycling, it is the unfortunate way of the world. We have Makros,Games,Builders warehouses,Fruit and veg citys and Dischems but we are loosing all the corner mom and pop little green grocers chemists and hardwares. We have a shallowing and widening of services but we are llosing depth. We have call centers and refrence number but we dont have a relationship with the store owner. We have relationship managers that has our name in a database to send us a personal sms on our birthdays. I like to walk to the shop. Maybe it is just me.

I disagree. TT is a good predictor of future time trialing performance. TT is probably the disicpline taht says most about power, aerobic ability and willingnes to suffer.BUT it does not penalize bike handling ability much.

Because I am selfish. I the helmetless one takes a tumble tumble and lies bleeding in the trial I have to go off-line to avoid him or even worse stop to see if i can help. I dont like blood from head wounds. Mud and dirt and blood is ok, but if you add hair it just becomes disgusting. So if he/she is totally bald and promises to fall next to the trial then it is all good.

I was follow a wheel and a armada of riders came past on the spruit. We had to get off the trial to let them all through. No problem. So this tosser came past in his all black kit 10 seconds after the group. He is not a tosser for being ten seconds after the group or wearing all black kit, but for shouting " Just ride, don't greet " I am not sure if he is upset that we didn't greet him, or that we made eye contact with the riders going in the opposite direction.
