  1. I also use the X-King Protection and it very clearly says protection on the one side of the tyre... I know its a race king in the picture but my X-Kings have the same "Protection" stamp as in this picture

  2. We had just over a 100 people who didn't pick-up their envelopes (assuming they never drove through)

Then of the total starters about 70% finished.

Is that just on the Marathon or for the entire weekend? I know on the ultra like 50 guys out of the 200 starters finished...

Well at least its not going to be 45 degrees on top of the mountain again...

  4. Forecast still shows 9mm of rain on Friday, 1.8mm on Sat and 0.5mm on Sunday. Looks like it will be cooler this year.

Listen to Ross here, your climbing is not nearly over at the top of the mamba. There is more to come! :whistling:

I learnt my lesson with Mamba last year. Heart rate went mad on Mamba and never came down for the rest of the day. Will try and pace it better on Saturday

  5. Hi guys looking for some help, I really wanted to do the marathon but the website would not let me choose a catergory so couldn't enter. So I just ended up entering the half marathon as it let me do that. I fear this has something to do with my age but I am turing 19 this year so not in the junior catergory anymore so as far as I know I should be allowed to race the marathon? I tried to get hold of advendurance for some help but they only have a messaging system for contact that I can find. I sent them a message yesterday morning but still have not got a response, does anyone have a telephone number I could contact them on?

Contact them on twitter and facebook as well. They usually respond there

  6. Is that not what bombs do to sealant? Stans recommend not using bombs with sealant, I have followed this and have never seen these things in my tyres. I only top-up a bit after 6-9 months without removing the tyre.

Bombs will do it yes, but if you have a few holes it starts to dry up and it causes this. I have found these in my tyres without using CO2 bombs...

  7. Tubeless conversion requires that the

    • 2 molded rim strips with integrated valve

be replaced every 6 months according to Stans but maybe not necessary.

I have never replaced mine since doing the conversion and I have not had any issues...

  8. Cool thanks, will google some youtube vids to see exactly what to do.

You say I should do this every 2 months?

I depends on the tyres you use and how many punctures you would have had sealed but I try and do it every 2 months. Once you take the tyre off you will know if the timing is right or not.

If your sealant dries up, you get these little monsters in your tyres:

  9. You take your tyres off and clean out the old sealant. Go and buy some sealant at you LBS and put about 60-75ml in there while you remount the tyres. I usually go the BP close to my house and use their pump to get the tyres seated on the rim again. Some tubeless tyres you will be able to get seated with a floor pump and some elbow grease, but others you will need compressed air...

    Its a very easy job...

  10. HI geemobee,

Once the conversion is done, you dont need to do it again, so once the tyres are worn out you look for a special and get some new tubeless tyres for half price - thats my approach anyway...

As for maintenence, you just need to make sure that you top up the tubeless sealant every now and then. About every 2 months I take my tyres off and replace the sealant. It dries up after a while which renders it useless so you need to replace it every now and then.

And avoid using CO2 bombs as far as possible. That screws up your sealant as well.

  11. Thanks for the feedback Fritz,

Just one point regarding the numbers. It sounds like all your planning was done for 1000-1500 riders. Why not place a cap on the number of entries if you know any more would cause havoc like this? Most of the problems was caused because you planned for a lot less people than actually entered.

I loved the route by the way. Some proper mountainbiking!!!

  12. Does anybody have more information on what happened with the finish of the Ultra. I saw on Twitter that Charles was not a happy camper with the signage at the end as he took a wrong turn and effectively lost the race.

I did watch the video of Lourens at the finish and he mentioned that he listened to what was said at the start and thus knew that second time around he had to follow the right boards.

I see in the Cannondale newsletter they are still investigating this.

  13. I have to agree with everyones sentiments.

The route was really great, no problems there. Although I had 7 punctures I still finished with a decent time.

The waterpoints was shocking for such a big race. Even the girls at the waterpoints admitted that there were only roped in on Wednesday and it was the first time ever which they had to do a waterpoint at a cycle race. That is ridiculous if you look at all the races Fritz and Co has organised over the years!!!

The merging of the routes at the end was a disaster. You would think that they have learnt their lesson at the Trailseeker series but NO, they still think its a good idea.

Anyway the riding was great, so for that I will be back. But I have learnt not to expect to much from Advendurance...
