  1. I popped past that shop while in Cape Town last week. If I had the spare R165k lying around, I would have dropped it on the new Cannondale Scalpel team sitting in the shop window. Dual suspension with full SRAM XX, weighing a ridiculous 9kg - truly awesome!
  2. I'm at work... but work in the financial markets, which are absolutely non-existent at the moment. Thank goodness for the Hub. Had a nice 46km road ride this morning followed by breakfast at Fournos. The (lack of) traffic is great. Tomorrow I plan to ride to work as well... if I can find somewhere to chain my bike up here. This is the only time of the year that its remotely safe to ride through the Jo'burg CBD - its like a mortuary.
  3. If you read some of the British cycling magazines, which often have quite a few cyclocross race reviews and pictures (its actually quite a big discipline in Europe), it looks like these bikes are hammered properly! But I'm really no expert... Jules has one and uses it often, perhaps he can comment if he sees this thread. Otherwise I will ask him over breakfast after our ride tomorrow and report back.
  4. Simplistically, its a hybrid road/ mountain bike. Check them out here
  5. I am - can't wait until I get it next year!!! Have also been playing around with this notion. Are you looking locally or to bring one in yourself?
  6. In my personal opinion, I can't see how you can justify a R165k price tag for this bike. If you compare it to other top end bikes that carry identical specs in respect of groupset, wheels etc; then the only remaining difference is in the frame. And yet other superbikes, e.g. Bianchi 928SL, Time RXR Ulteam etc., cost R50k less than this bike. Surely the carbon technology can't be that different and more expensive compared to these other top brands?
  7. Hi guys, thought I'd revive this thread in the interests of helping my sister find a mid-week group ride in Cape Town. If anyone knows of any groups riding in the weekday mornings over the next week, that info would be much appreciated. She's looking for an intermediate road group. Thanks and ayoba!
  8. What's the latest?
  9. That is really ***. Have to agree with Newby, it is shocking to have to accept and live with this instead of demanding a fully functional police force out of our hard earned tax money - which we are rightfully entitled to. Really sucks.

    New scam

Here is an email I got last week : Dear Friend, It is not in my character to invade people's privacy, but this eventual situation has warranted me to do so please understand and bear with me. I am the auditing and accounting section manager with African Development Bank,Ouagadougou Burkina faso. I discoverd an Abandoned sum of ($39.5)million. this money has been dormant for many years, and the bank Is asking for the benefitiary to come forward and claim it or the money will be transfer to the Apex bank as unclaimed Bills. I Secretly contacted you as a foreigner to see if you are capable of receiving this money into your account and take 30% of it. I have worked out a legitimate and riskfree way with which this will be done. as soon as i receive your reply I will give you full details and Please make this proposal a top secret and delete it if you are not interested. MRjerome ubana.
  11. That's sad news - RIP.
  12. Go Chris, thanks for looking after the South African consumer.
  13. So moving - good to know there are still some genuine people out there
  14. I have been really wanting to join a Hub ride for a while now... but heading to Cape Town on holiday on Wednesday. Hope you guys have a fun, safe ride and look forward to the next one.
  15. Exactly what I thought... what a pleasant surprise amidst all the negativity towards cyclists at the moment. Good work, Wolfey.
  16. Define float. My definition is simple - when I'm clipped in I don't want my foot to be able to laterally move around much unless I consciously choose to move it, which will only be to unclip. My SPD pedals achieve this reasonably well, but get clogged up with mud pretty easily.
  17. Has anyone tried the Time Atac's? If so, what are they like in terms of float and mud clearance?
  18. Don't the Eggbeaters have way too much float?
  19. Time RXS are fantastic. And the new i-Clic by Time also look really nice but have not tried them yet. MTB - I use Shimano as well, but don't rate the mud clearance as being exceptional. Have been thinking about changing, possibly also to Time Atac's.
  20. Thanks for the update. Thoughts and prayers are continuously with him and his family.
  21. I once saw a set of wheels that was sold on Hub appear in the back of Ride Mag like a month or two later... those ads are clearly out of date and as a result I pay little attention to them when reading the mag.
  22. Hope you guys don't get harassed by Cradle residents...
