  1. Which is almost the complete opposite of this:
  2. I resent being called slow!
  3. Not looking like it: Which was why Marius was having a bit of a whinge.
  4. I know! I was so relieved when my stalker skills revealed that you weren't riding. Still doesn't mean I'm sleeping well at night!
  5. I am. And if there is anything like "24hr entry remorse" then I certainly have it. I have no idea why I like self-harming so much! And who knows, anything can happen in 24hrs - I might be that guy towards the bottom of the leaderboard...
  6. I've always found solo to be easier than riding in a team. You get to ride your pace, with your thoughts for company, and no pressure about performing for the team.
  7. All of you stop it. Instead of flogging this dead horse, take the time it would have taken you to harp on about something arb and mail your respective MECs. Demand bike lanes. Demand better policing of existing laws. Demand free entries to the Argus. I don't care, just make yourself heard. Use this rage on someone who can actually affect change! I've even done the hard work for you: Western Cape: Transport.Publicworks@westerncape.gov.za MEC: Mr D Grant Department Head: Jacqui.Gooch@westerncape.gov.za Gauteng: GPRoads.Transport@gauteng.gov.za MEC: Mr Ismail Vadi email: Sofia.Yusuf@gauteng.gov.za KZN: Head: Transport : Mr Sbusiso Gumbi : Sbusiso.Gumbi@Kzntransport.gov.za National: Director-General: Pule Godfrey Selepe, Mr DirectorGeneral@dot.gov.za Sadly, I doubt there will be 153 emails (number of replies in this topic) sent to our public servants about bike safety...
  8. There's another tour planned out that way later this year - give CCT a call...
  9. Crikey - at least people have come back from the holidays with a bit passion. We're missing the forest for the trees here. Yes, helmets do prevent injuries and deaths, but cyclist deaths in SA are not a simple helmet vs no helmet issue. Car, trucks and taxis are injuring and killing cyclists regardless of whether they wear a helmet or not. Calling people out on helmet use is victim blaming. The thing we should be focussing our new found holiday passion on is standing together as a cycling community and demanding safer infrastructure, better laws, and improved policing from our local and national governments. Once the deaths and injuries by vehicles have stopped, we can turn on each other and have a go over helmet use.
  10. I also did a Wild Coast Trip with CCT a few years back - spectacular!
  11. We started in Ladismith, and then went the long way round to Calitzdorp via Van Wyksdorp and Rooiberg on day 1. Day two was to Prince Albert, along the Niels river to the bottom of the Swartbergpass, up and over. Day 3 was back up the pass and into Die Hel, staying a guesthouse at the far end of the valley. Day 4 was then up Die Leer, down the Seweweeks Poort and back to Ladismith via Hoeko. Day 1: 95km, 1700m Day 2: 87km, 2000m Day 3: 71km, 1700m Day 4: 66km, 1500m (with hike-a-bike) Our average speeds were between 11km/h and 15km/h riding (we stopped lots for snacks, photos, coffee etc).
  12. Probably the best 4 days I've spent on a bike. And I can recommend Cape Cycle Tours.
  13. Not today, but a tour I did earlier in the year in the Klein Karoo: More photos here
  14. Good point! My postman doesn't wear a helmet, and I've yet to see him getting pulled over and judged by the Hub police. But maybe that says more about us as a nation than we're comfortable with...
  15. My idea of a cycling utopia http://www.internetigloo.com/mobike/images/helmets/helmetless_copenhagen_cyclists.jpg
  16. Looks like DDD recruit has bailed on us Still scrambling to find a replacement
  17. Looks like we might have recruited one of them. I'm starting to wish I was racing with the mixed team now...
  18. We've lost a rider already and we haven't even started. Man flu is a silent killer!
  19. I've never dropped that early (yet). My danger zone is that steel bridge just after the turn off the Van Loveren road - 140kms. Been in some bad places around there!
  20. The only reason we hired Maggie - to dish out some pro peloton justice should they pull that move again!
  21. Hopefully Bluff Meat don't wheelsuck us for 15kms again this year
  22. Pfffffft also works... (this was some road debris that flicked up and damaged by derailleur)
  23. I imagine that section of the form is only there to make the lives of insurance clerks more interesting as they laugh at our attempts to draw stuff. I've a whole collection of poorly drawn pictures about bicycle related incidents This is my claim for a cracked rim and broken spoke during 36One.
