  1. I agree with you, this is common sense in a road race and even though I feel bad for the people that came down there I don't think taking the organizers to court is the way to handle this. Will be keeping an eye on this to see what their intentions are. But my gut tells me something is brewing here.
  2. I see this as a class action lawsuit coming against the organizers for abdicating their responsibilities to ensure the route is safe for riders. Alternatively, taking them on for not fixing the issue once the first rider fell. I hope they have insurance against this type of thing. All I can add is that I started in D-Batch, got dropped very quickly by the lead riders. And by the time I passed this specific section at around 10h07 the organisers had already put barriers in place to force you to cross the slot in a specific place where there was a rubber mat.
  3. If Hamilton has some kind of issue at the Saudi Race Weekend and does a DNF, Verstappen can finish off the Championship by finishing 2nd in the race... https://www.thesouthafrican.com/motoring/motorsport/how-max-verstappen-can-win-his-maiden-f1-title-in-saudi-arabia/
  4. That is an insanely good time if you started at 8h20 and did it all on your own. And your first race on top of that?! Well Done! My nomination for ride-of-the-day...
  5. 4 of them were blown over. I can see how it can happen that one of them could have drifted into the extraordinary position shown below. Stuff happens. Do you suspect foul play? Or what plausible suggestion do you bring to the table?
  6. I also liked Soccer City. Coming from PTA, it is further than the previous venue for me, but definitely worth the effort. Lots of space and the access routes described in the Rider Brief was accurate for me to get in and out efficiently. Congestion at the Loading gate was fine, seemed better than previous editions of the race. There was a bit of congestion inside the stadium after finishing when passing the podium, but it might have only been an issue when I passed as that was the exact moment they were presenting the winners of the Mens and Womens ELITE races. Don't know if anyone else experienced congestion there? Route commentary: I think the route is fine, you just need to be strategic about your matches and leave plenty for climbing Jan Smuts, plenty of sharp inclines there that will destroy overused legs. I think Jan Smuts will break more people next year if we have the heat returned to the 35°C windstill conditions.
  7. I'm glad someone saw the light and they are reviewing: "Upon further inspection of the footage, it became clear that the markers were in place a short while earlier when the elite men passed the same area. We now believe that the markers were displaced by the downdraft and gust caused by the helicopter which flew low in this section of the route while filming the men’s race. The organisers regret not having a marshall positioned there to correct the situation. We believe that Emma appealed the decision based on the video footage supplied. As event organisers, we don’t act as commissaires, but we will supply time split times, photos and video footage if it will assist in resolving the appeal process. The 947 Ride Joburg team hopes that this will be resolved swiftly and fairly."
  8. Was just about to type that too. That storm on Saturday night might have put people off riding on what we all expected to be wet roads.
  9. The number of participants has been trending downwards for a while now. According to Racetec: 2015 - 21535 2016 - 20349 2017 - 19991 2018 - 18378 2019 - 15829 This is Overall Finishers, so will include Official Double Lappers too, I would think.
  10. Sorry to break it to, but they do ask for your Tenderpreneur Number before handing them over....
  11. Can we please get the terminology right, before Cones are targeted unfairly. That was not a cone, it was a Traffic Delineator #WordsMatter
  12. I would take heart from the resolve shown by the Boks this year. They played rugby in a very disruptive environment. The only blowout was in that one game against AUS, still not sure what happened there. All other matches we were in it till the end. I'd rather take these 1 point losses now and we learn and build for the next 18 months to be truly competitive at RWC 2023. Instead of being where Ireland was in 2017/18, dominating the rugby world and beating the All Blacks, but dropping out of RWC2019 without reaching the Semi's. I hope they can relax and catch up on some lost time with loved ones during the December break.
  13. Man that really sucks. Only plausible explanation is the wind. You can see some of those barriers are blown over. And then by some freak of luck the one barrier must have blown sideways without falling over, into the path of where the car should have gone. An unfortunate incident that nobody foresaw and if there was a marshal there they could have quickly removed the offending barrier.
  14. That is a shocker from the lead car. The cone that prevents the car from turning left thru the gate doesn't help at all. Here you can see she second-guesses what was going on. But what do you do as a rider, ignore the lead car?
  15. Thanks, my mistake. I'll correct my post.
  16. Seems time starts after the neutral zone. Out of Habit, I always start my Garmin on the Gun. That way I have my worst possible time on my head unit. For example: if I'm chasing a Sub 3 and it shows a 2h59:55 on my head unit I can be pretty sure it is not worse than that.
  17. Where did you get off the N1 and roughly what time? I had zero issues.
  18. I chose the Orange parking and I'll do it again. Got there just after 5AM, coming from the North on the N1 and flow was fine, better than at Riversands(like someone else noted). There is just so much more space at Soccer City, everything inside flowed fine during the loading proceedings and from what I could see there were plenty of toilets at the right places. Route itself was fine. Jan Smuts was a worthy challenge in the last 3rd of the route. And what about that wind in the final 3km!? HECTIC. My own race: could not have expected anything eye popping with very little prep. Full susser without a lockout is also worlds apart from my previous road bike. Credit to the organisers. Very well done for a first attempt at hosting it. I'll be back, hopefully with more miles in the legs.
  19. In the accent of The Zohan: "So let's go!"
  20. Suggestion Noted... Multiple labels it is then.... See ya'll at Soccer City... I'm getting a bit excited now.
  21. I.... Last time I did it on a MTB it took me 4h10 in 2015. All 947's since have been on the Road Bike. Might be a rude awakening but looking forward to it. Might also be the first 947 I start with Leg and Armwarmers...pending the weather
  22. Also... I might just borrow my wife's label maker and do some mods...
  23. Hmmm... riding with my Full Sus MTB this time round I might need to rethink the additional Water Bottle on the seatpost if they compete for the same space. Minor problem to be adressed when I have the hardware in-hand. Looks good though????
  24. There is an opportunity here that CSA and all other "major" cycling events should grab hold of. Permanent number boards for Road Cycling. The MTB crowd have it, why can't we.
  25. Firstly, I'm a Seb Vettel and Max Verstappen fan. There have been a few instances of drivers pushing an opponent wide and then receiving a reprimand for it. The Red Bull Ring comes to mind. It was a midfield battle, can't remember exactly who was involved, but there was some rule that if the person was clsoe enough to side-by-side you needed to leave space on the track for them. I think what saved Max was they fact that he too left the track. If he had stayed on track while pushing Lewis off it would have been a done deal in giving him a reprimand. But even with things as they were, I was very surprised Max didn't get sanctioned. It will suck if he gets a sanction now, but his lead is at risk regardless. They need to bring something special in these final 3 races to hold of the Austrian and the Brit. PS. Perez being the ultimate teammate and aggressively holding position against Lewis will be epic to see. He has nothing to lose, so can risk his car, whereas Lewis needs to finish the races at all costs. Hopefully RB can manufacture such a position on-track...
