  1. I must say. I did not even know it was neutral zone. The Start line was very noisy and could hardly hear anything about the race briefing. Not sure what best way to handle this.. maybe two bikes at front forcing people to keep back?
  2. You mean the quad biked parked in middle of road in pitch black? Assume he stopped for the fallen rides to assist them and no one could see the bike. We just missed it luckily , it should have had more lights.. hopefully next year they will wait for sunrise so its bit safer
  3. Yup, use them for all training rides as they thick and seems to be lasting well, never tried them for long rides(4hrs plus) , so cant comment on how well they work for that..

  5. Yup, Current record is on gravel bike.
  6. All these events are how difficult you make them. If you go hard, you going to die. if you take it easy, event will be easy. You have to be very disciplined in first 100km, its very easy to get sucked into staying with the group. Know what you can do all day (normally z2, mine is z3) , stick with this pace for first 100km, then up it to z3 and see how goes. Yes, its might feel slow, but rather slow and finish than cramping/dieing in back of recovery van. Stop at all the stops, fill up both bottles , grab a snack and get going immediately
  7. I never look …. I ask others. make it a conversation topic sometimes I simply ride feed station to feed station, then its only 30km ride. a few times
  8. The main trick with these distance is always move don't go daddle at feed stations. Stop, fill bottles, stuff face, stuff pockets and go .. then chew/swallow on the bike. I see so many people sitting at stops for 5-15 minutes, after 5 stops that is easy 25-1hr extra.
  9. Ditto following data is avaible, at least the riderID is unique so one don't worry about name duplicates NameAndTeam RiderID RaceTime Overall Position Gender GenderPos StartGroup Group AgeGroup Age AveSpeed AveSpeedmkm PhotoURL CertificateURL Detail
  10. Possible todo this for 2018 please, want to see what tail wind impact was on times (wheel suckers)
  11. commentators on live stream said the wind actually dropped during the day. there probably somewhere stats on the actual winds for the day .. just to lazy to google now
  12. Its Automated and ctct is base event.. highly unlikely it will change.. ctct is not place to improve your seeding :-)
  13. something about the % of fast people that went slower than expected. The one tonner is nice example as most of the high seeding people fall back to ride with there DC team mates .. so their final time is slower than expected pushing the beta up. Edit: From website First, an extract is done of all the riders who did the event in question, as well as the base event. Every rider with an index better than 100 is taken for this calculation. The assumption is made that the same riders should have the same index for both events, so the winner’s time of the event is now adjusted and the “beta” is calculated to achieve this.In statistical terms, a linear regression is performed for the event relative to the indexes of the people in the event who also rode one of the base events. This determines how much the winner’s time should be adjusted and what the difficulty factor “beta” should be. There is no subjectivity in this process – it is an automated calculation without human intervention.
  14. Simple Calc: 180 people in bunch. Each need todo 60 seconds at front at full gas, then you have 3 hrs done. So if you can do 10 seconds at front, then you will have 30 minutes to recover if whole bunch work together. but ja
  15. I was checking vids and wondering how much wind brake the got from all the motor bikes at the front? (not taking anything away, just wondering)
  16. Thanks I was next to him when it happened. All I can say it was instant , doubt he suffered at all . RIP
  17. did it last year, Can't remember anything tough .. long country roads for ages , few lazy climbs. Sure you can do it on road bike if you brave enough. Most top guys do it on gravel bike .. its just the corrugation that is issue. (I might also just be dilutional) Route sounds the same as last year, here strava route: https://www.strava.com/routes/17518548
