  1. Well - another motivation behind it all seems to be that the organizers use the same podium girls as in the Vuelta Espana
  2. Jennings took 5th place in his first roadrace in EU which was stage one of the Tour du Pays de Vaud yesterday. It is 2.1 tour for juniors and quite a hard tour to start their racing off with-but according to barry they are doing well. Unfortunately Stefano crashed but got back on the bike. Proloque had them a bit wide-eyed as USA took whole podium. All race results can be found on www.tpv.ch Todays stage finish with a 7km climb and hilltop finish. Previously South-africans also competed in the tour in 2005 and 2007.

  4. They will be doing the Cote Picardi in france and ZLM in Holland. not doing ronde van vlaanderen
  5. 5th on GC, 28secs behind Guldhammer from Denmark who is leading the tour. 4th in points competition with same points (20) as Gastauer from Luxembourg who is lying 3rd. But Guldhammer had 2 stage wins - points now 58 for him. http://www.edosof.com/2009/nacoes/Breeze2009-03-28 09:35:17
  6. Jaco currently competing at Grand Prix Portugal U23 Nations Cup with the UCI. Stage 1 - 8th Stage 2 - 3rd! GC for the moment unknown.
  7. I have just received a message from Barry in Malaysia to say that Jaco Venter went in a 3-man breakaway and took the first points and KOM point. With 50km to go to the line, they had 3 minutes lead and JACO WILL BE WEARING THE KOM JERSEY AFTER DAY 1!!!!!!
  8. Give me your postal address - will send you some replacements
  9. And I am amazed at young firstyear van Zyl to be up there - next year is going to be lekker!
  10. Hagar - you can phone Dewald: 083 348 6249. He is a rep in the WP and would be able to assist with teh Garmin / Avnic person who assist with the Sportsmans Wearhouse in that are.
  11. Since I see an update on the track and none for the road - here I go. 3 of the riders, Johann v Zyl, Christopher Jennings and Clinton Barrow has spend all their time since the jnr tour in Heidelberg by myself and Barry. Taming the winter as Heidelberg can be freezing at times. (Yes, I can already hear the question - they are still in school and studying daily). They had really hard training up to last week Sunday and are now entering their tapering preperations after a week of recovery. Johan van der Merwe has opted to stay in Potch and trained with the riders from the UCI on several occasions. Rourke has just returned from MTB worlds and will be off to GP tomorrow to join the team. As from Monday 30th to Friday 4th July, myself and the team manager, Tony Harding, will accompany the team as well as 2 of the 3 reserves (HB Kruger & Willem Jordaan)to Graskop for some teambuilding leading up to worlds. The 3rd reserve, Avery Arendse, is with the track team doing preperations. After the training camp the starting team will stay together up to Worlds and we will go down on 10 July already - please hold thumbs for the weather. The 2 timetrialers (Paul v Zweel & Tiaan Swart) are also travelling down with Carol Austin to CPT from 30 June to 4 July checking out the route and also doing the last setup preperations at the velodrome. Hopefully we will see some of you guys at the opening of the junior worlds in CPT 12 July!! Come support these boys - they have really worked hard the last 3 months!
  12. Just got an sms to say that Rabie is wearing the red jersey for best young rider after today's hilltop finish!
  13. Hi Is there possibly anybody who has a Garmin Edge that could do the route of the Worlds Junior TT in Paarl for us. I need the actual file. Thanks.
  14. Well I have to be honest, maybe it is for the good of cycling SA's future. Neither Nick, malcolm or Ian, even Neil is any way going to deliver any medals at worlds champs or olympics anytime soon - actually never. So as Doug says - he will look to the future. Focusing on a younger team and building towards 2012 and 2016 should in my eyes get priority now from any team in RSA, infact I believe CSA should put down some rules to pull in younger riders. Ryder plans to support, already supporting as well, the girls, more U23s and BMX SA is in my eyes a better investment. Maybe he actually told the old folks this and that is why they upset. I dunno, but in anycase looking at the job Ryder's younglings (Thompson / Kinnear and Braddie) are doing in Canada - he seems to be on the right track.
  15. Road comm is Andre Engelbrecht
  16. Why ????????? No disrespect but Morne Blignaut is miles ahead in terms of the Kierin. I still cant understand what these selectors are doing. So' date=' Gadi wins the B world champs but only beacuse Morne wasnt there. If you put the 2 together, Morne will win 110 times out of 100.[/quote'] I might be wrong, but I don't think somebody is going for the track - though have qualified through B-worlds. As understood if they send somebody for the track it will have to be a medal contender and SASCOC seems does not 'recognize' B-worlds. In the end it is not up to CSA but SASCOC to make the final call on this. However, the track riders' qualifications can not change anymore - thus should riders have gone for track - should they not have been announced? Track & Field - my dad follows it and seems there is still a qualification event (s) somewhere to come and the final team for that will only be announced after that. Girls - not sure. I know that the ladies was a little under pressure as SASCOC was looking at performance in NZ - to see if a medal contender finally comes out somewhere - so maybe after this tour they are on now? As I have it, the final team for the whole Olympics will only be announced towards the end of May. Please note - the above is all just hearsay and I do not have any official info.
  17. as till pres - wie by bmx?
  18. ek hoor so tussen deur smse dat Lawrence terug is Kaap toe? Hoe nou?
  19. Mallo - yes Barry and Andrew tried to start a riders association, but CSA was not happy because they wanted actual riders to lead the way - at the Amamshova there was a meeting, Neotel pitched with David George, Michael Sowerby and Nic White joined later - thats all. David said he would lead the way, but unfortunately it seems that it did not get off the ground.
  20. Mallo - what riders association?
  21. Does this have something to do with Durwin Benjamin who got booted / fired, bike taken from him and now his team will not release him to ride for another team though he is within his rights?
  22. http://www.uci.ch/Modules/BUILTIN/getObject.asp?MenuId=MTkzNg&ObjTypeCode=FILE&type=FILE&id=34028& all answers should be on page 156 I hope
  23. It is sad - cause at the tour - there were quite alot of disputes regards the ladies. Onother girl was pushed or something during the crit. 2 other girls spent lots of time pacing behind cars to get back to a bigger bunch etc. In fact should the comms have been lots stricker we possible could have been looking at 4 time eliminations and then taking in consideration then possibly 4 disqualifications - then not one of the girls would have finished the tour as there were only 8. All that needs to happen - we have to find more girls - so that we can have an independant ladies tour - then all this will not happen - however, a seperate event just for 8 girls - not viable. For me, it was quite clear on day one already that Michelle came to the tour more prepared - she won the TT by 2 minutes. During stage 2 - the first road stage I was in the first comms car - she was making the pacing in the front on her own almost. There were 3 other good girls - I know one of them was sick but still started the tour and could have done better. But ever rider has ups and downs. No ladies team has been selected after the jnr tour - the road is still open for all 8 those girls - but alot (probably all) will depend on the SA champs - best then to make sure your girls goes well prepared.
  24. Crit stage had rain & clouds and was during sunset as well.
