  1. Latrinus - there should be buildings on the crit stage? Looking at the lighting and grassland - it looks like stage 1 on the way to the finish. I know the issue was raised with the officials by the other ladies - reply was that nobody saw it.
  2. I am implying yes. Up to now me and Barry worked alot with the "younglings". 1. I would like to start a cycling school - I have actually given a document in last year and most was excited but it got shot in the foot. Sylvia was not to keen and neither was those in charge of development and transformation - see, they probably felt I would take over. 2. Every year we have good jnrs coming through, but no direction for them as to where to head - it took almost all my time last year to make sure jnrs (not just of my team) actully get into teams for this year. We need to address the issue in the team clauses of SA - if you want to register a team in SA - we have to make sure that there is space for the juniors in those teams as wel. No sense in getting a jnr to top standard with nowhere to go. 3. The same for transformation - people think it is so easy - just put a coloured rider on a bike - we need to go out and get coloured sports persons and change them from other sports to cycling - not those who did not make it in anything - you are either athletic - or you are not? Or am I wrong here? 4. I have told the womens commission, CSA that they need to address the young - in their own market - instead, after those talks they put Cherise on the Bicycling - great - so now all the cyclists sees her again. We need to get our girlie starts into the magazines such as the TEEN. We need to sell to new people and young riders currently outside of cycling - that will be the only way how we get more numbers in the ladies catagory. Sell them heroes. 5. There are several structured jnr teams - great - but we need more. And also not 5 teams from the same sponsor - that makes for negative racing. We need to get the sponsors starting young (jnr), but also giving them publicity. Grow with them. Also - what about forcing the bigger teams to develop . It needs some discussion as to what this structures should be and what CSA expects in the future. 6. There needs to be a school leaque - track, road, mtb and bmx. We probably need to start something like a multi discipline thing - so that we are sure new riders coming into the sport actually develop into the right disicpline. 7. We (somebody who has the contacts) need to beg Barloworld to give back to the communities - what if we could get several of the tracks that we have in the country back into shape - PPC could assist? Did you know that SA is the country with the most (unused - not looked after) tracks in the World? If each province at least has 1 proper track - with one proper dedicated person coming to the track to assist certain afternoons and evenings etc. There must be old track bikes lying at some of your homes that we can pull in again? This is what comes to mind. For me - before a rider first in the under 14 and Under 16 catagory has to show talent, the will before we start hammering them with coaches and managers - yes they need direction. One more thing - I got to like the track working with the Danes, but I also see some caoches going a bit " wrong "by training on the track every day - we need to convince the riders to train on the road and go to the track just to sharpen up towards an event - but that is probably a whole discussion in itself.
  3. Since the discussion started ( a week back I think), I made several comments etc and had some thoughts about it all, but the one thing I came back to thinking all the time was that there can be good people put in place in all the commissions, even some of the above mentioned, but looking at the direction we should head (olympics 2012 and 2016) the development commission is suppose to be one of the most important and critical persons on the board. For goodness sake, enlighten me as to what the current development and transformation commission has done and exactly why you want to keep it the same? Don't come and tell me some nonsense that he has done courses for horses with the UCI / AUS etc, many of us has done it - show me the results. Yes - i have seen some documents regards training and coaching BUT this is a position where unfortunately you have to get your hands dirty and not many of us actually goes out and work with the young riders on a daily basis - it is not a deskjob!!
  4. Well - I can't nominate - I am just a normal women helping jnrs. I see women is not on the highest priority list in the nominations I have seen and heard of so far.
4. Baan - o my hemel - hier is seker die meeste hulp nodig. Wie ookal in charge is - don't reinvent the wheel, it's rolling already Easy - copy Ned, UK, Den, Fra, Aus en USA. 6.
  6. Sorry girls. I truely believe that the system is failing you. If you were provided with the proper training and guidance, you will race better. Even though i think that the approach CSA is taking now is wrong, make the best of it. Racing clever will now be in your favor and that might mean to sit a wheel till the finish. You are going there to get points and qualify more riders for the Olympics at these events if I understand correctly - so do what is takes to do that. Understand that not one of you is strong enough to go on a suicide breakaway and take a solo win and it is senseless at the start of the season to do something like this as by the end of the year all the international team managers would have forgotten about it as well. For now, know your strong riders in the opposition, you will have to use them. It is almost exactly the same as using a VET rider. Just remember - you need to beat them at the line. Also remember that at this stage a high position is important to the country and not just a particular rider. If one of you gets the points, it will favor more riders later on. Make the best it - good luck. Breeze2008-02-26 00:27:28
  7. You will also find Barloworld on the cyclelab kit as well as Robbie Hunter's signature on the team's. I don't think there is an elite team anymore - it is only the academy team and they included 3 older riders - mike sowerby, nico bell and ben from the Lab. And they are riding Equenox (not sure spelling) - it is a frame imported by Hunter and Neil McDonald I think. Hunter is the "guardian" of the young team - that is also why David Maree and Ruan Benson is currently in Italy as guests at the BW training camp - and I think it is SUPA!
  8. Team Tekton will continue with an U23 team this year, but as you know for some unknown, but silly reason (according to me) - it is also the Tri nations on the track - so some of our riders will have to make a choice between the 2 events as we focus on road and track - anybody interested to ride as a guest rider and who's club will not be riding - please send me a PM with a short CV so that we can keep an eye out for you!
  9. Why oh why can the same approach as we started with the junior men not be followed? we need to start " testing " these girls diffenrent from race situations - teamwork might for instance lead for a rider such as De Groot, make sure Schoeman gets to the line. South-Africa has races that finishes in sprints - Anriette is the best sprinter I believe - so if any of the other teams want to take her to the line, their problem and probably their loss. Anriette has the benefit and advantage of Robyn who is a strong team player - good for the both of them. Lots of things could be different. We sometimes only focus on the same girls over and over. I would say - do a camp - properly organized, with criteria set in place and expectances etc- future plans laid donw - after 4 days you might have the same or a slightly different picture. For instance, I made a personal shortlist of 15 juniors I thought before the camp would feature at the selection camp - in the end - only 10 of those 15 is in the group 14. And 4 completely different names came to the front. That shows - don't just go on past results. My 2 cents - we have a future medal prospect for the worlds and possible for the olympics (in years to come), but to only focus and preparing one or 2 young girls will not get us the medals - we need to have a team of possible winners - this NZ tour is not the end of the world - nor do I even believe it is the start as adding riders who does not even believe and want Europe or international racing to be part of their personal goals anymore, asks me the question as to what is the plans for the future of ladies cycling - is there even a plan - make it public for us all to understand the reasoning behind this logic. The Italians arrived at each of the world champs with almost each of their riders as a possible winner - why - it improved their chances. In fact, I think looking at the world champs - jnr men and ladies, elite men and ladies - they did the best. Why should we go and reinvent the wheel when their is actually already a plan that can be followed.
  10. There is a date and time set for those who wanted to do the managers course 17:30 at Cyclelab on 23 Jan (Wed before the Hyper/Fast One). Instructor will be Hendrik Wagener - best to contact him for information on 0827411514 or the GCG office - 0117072700 - speak to Gail. Costs as far as I understand is R300 and then R120 for your license application. Sorry for the WP people - seems no date yet set. Breeze2008-01-17 00:58:23
  11. Mr Groot Lem was the commentator and as i heard, he kept the crowd on their toes..
  12. It will be the normal CSA course presented by CSA, but needed for managers / assistants to follow on the road etc when racing. Thus far the one I have the most people for will be in JNB, but if we can get enough people from CPT it can be arranged there as well
  13. I have 5 people who wants to do a managers course by CSA early in January - but need about 5 more for them to arrange it - if anybody interested please PM me.
  14. No TV - it just doesn't fit in with SSCycling Cyclelab image. and i bet my bottom dollar that no csa top brass or selectors were there to witness the progress that "development cyclists" have made. this is an ideal event for csa to bring down the potential olympic riders to the cape. paarl is a slow track ' date=' u need to be strong to win here. [/quote'] There will be TV and photographers as well as several reporters at the race on 29th - remember it is up to the organizers to make sure that media pitch!
  15. Don't wait - do the forms - Sylvia is not accepting online licenses - only the old fasioned way according to her. All sports administartion is moving forward - except CSA.
  16. Possibly because he is the COO of cycling SA, which makes him a paid employee of CSA, who should then maybe be independent / uninvolved from all events? He was only employed by CSA after this years Giro - thus probably why the change againBreeze2007-12-05 13:05:22

  19. In the local press MTN will go UCI Continental - but seems they are trying to overimpress some of the internationals? This report from cyclingnews.com today. First Edition Cycling News for November 17, 2007 South African team goes pro South African cycling, bouyed by the success of Robbie Hunter in the Tour de France, has stepped up its game, putting forth a UCI Professional Continental men's team and a professional women's team for 2008. The MTN team will be headed by Nicholas White, South African champion Malcolm Lange, sprinter Neil MacDonald, Waylon Woolcock and David George. It will also bring in U23 riders Jay Thomson, Jonathan Kinnear, Juan van Heerden and Bradley Potgieter. "It's time we started developing African cycling from Africa," said George, according to iAfrica.com. "The traditional cycling structures which insist that success can only be bred from Europe can now be challenged with the substantial backing of MTN. It's a very exciting time for cycling on this continent." The company will also support the country's first ever women's professional cycling team. Cherise Taylor and Marissa van der Merwe will lead the team along with Chrissie Viljoen, Altie Clark and Cashandra Slingerland. Taylor was the silver medalist in the 2007 junior world championship road race. Previous News Next News (All rights reserved/Copyright Future Publishing (Overseas) Limited 2007)
  20. An maybe dutoit will just outdo them again - what was it 5 minutes?
  21. The question once again arrises - does the team owner /manager care about the riders - or just the sponsor who is filling his backpocket

    IBIKE

There was an article in the PRocycling of earlier this year. I left he issue in Europe unfortunately. In there they have gone and compared all the power meters - in short: SRM was about 1% more accurate than the Powertap in most of the test. One of the cons is that you can not put the powertap onto a TT bike with a disc, but they say they are working on it. However, according to the article, the Powertap gave more accurate measures on climbs of 5% and more. The ergimo was a bit more "out" and the Ibike as you say only give an indication and is very dependable on other outside factors and I propose for the not so serious rider - who wanna have an idea only to maybe chat to some more serious friends about. I came to the conclusion that buying a Powertap for training and racing, the best one is less than half the price of the cheaper SRM,and you will get the same out of each of it more or less
  23. Renay - then you might ask the question why 8 U16's were awarded National colours - but not going anywhere? If CSA then want to try to look consistent - they will have to award you colours - I mean what is suppose to count for the one should for the other?

I was just informed that is was in fact a CSA invitaiton - so all we need to know now is why the rider selected by the commission as the replacement was then overlooked? Is Durwin maybe sick, unwilling, unavailable etc?Breeze2007-10-17 04:08:08

The commissions gets overruled quite alot of times (ask me) - I think it however an internal thing - this invitation was for CSC / RSA - so I gather they will get a CSC guy to take the spot of the other CSC guy - though Durwin was the replacement. You get my drift...
