  1. Oh fun, I wake this morning to find you apparently following me around contradicting everything I say. I just hope I can give you as much attention in my responses as you appear to be giving me. I'm flattered. Interesting to note that others also picked up on the spandex versus baggies topic prior to my post.
  2. Who suggested the blue route to a newbie? My mention of blue was in response to geecee. There are plenty other rides to be done there. And the new blue route is not that difficult at all.
  3. These chaps who think it's uncool to wear cycling shorts should really just get over themselves...
  4. Perhaps I am just playing devil's advocate as my sig says but what exactly did he experience? One chap who passed on second hand info about others riding passed without asking if he was ok, and him getting the feeling (so it was in his mind) that he was being judged.
  5. Never been to Tokai but just reading that makes me think the OP was being rather judgemental. You seem to refer to those wearing "spandex" in a rather derogatory manner. Perhaps you need to abide by what you preach and realise that they are all there to have fun, even if they are wearing spandex.
  6. When it comes to custom stuff it would be small quantities that I would be after which is usually always an issue.
  7. Ha ha, apologies for us not picking up on your posts on here either! If you are on Facebook then like the Critical Mass - Durban group for all the updates. Don't let it put your mates off and join us for the proper ride on the 29th!
  8. I've said it before. Morne has always been a one trick pony (goal kicker) but not he seems to have forgotten even that trick. It is time to give someone else a try. Pollard (junior Bok flyhalf) is too young but how we could do with someone like that in the senior Bok team. With a flyhalf that rarely runs on attack the defense have one less thing to worry about. He must be given a "break".
  9. Dude, if you stay in Hillcrest then why not give Giba Gorge a try too? It is a little more costly (R40 once off of cheaper for a booklet) but with plenty more trail choices and facilities.
  10. Well done Baby Boks! Junior rugby world champions for 2012! Nice one. Now for the whitewash tomorrow.
  11. Don't get some of these Capetonians... wearing NZ colours but singing the SA anthem... make up your minds idiots. Awesome crowd and atmosphere though.
  12. NZ vs Baby Boks about to kick off. Barney's Army vs Sharks about to kick off! What to do! Go Baby Boks! In the other game I have no idea.... love Smit, love the Sharks....
  13. Your kind edit of my post
  14. If they are demanding lots then ride elsewhere. I realise this may be easier said than done but it's ridiculous if they are charging a fortune for one day of riding across their land. Sorry, our land according to the ANC.... watch out land owners... That being said, are you sure it's the land owners? Friend decided to volunteer to work at the Epic. Completed forms, waited, got sms saying they are interested please could she pay R4000! Pay R4k to work for them!
  15. Most races are a rip off now it seems. Like some have said repeatedly on here, cycling is the new golf....
  16. Third time lucky? Or 4th time, being Monday. I had an alarm set for 9am, stopped my ride when it went off, logged into the website, waited.... and waited..... and waited.... then put my phone away with the page still loading and continued riding, checked it later and it had loaded... but with the old specials still! hee hee. Anyway after the ride I checked again and the new offer was there. I knew that traffic would be an issue. Even Computicket cannot handle traffic Thanks guys and keep it up
  17. As most know you can measure absolutely every body part in deciding which bike suits you best but as a quick overview I quite like this site: http://www.ebicycles.com/ I'm 1.88m and it suggests a 20" bike but does say I could get anything from 19" to 20.5". A 19" was on special so I got it and it seems fine for me. 19" would normally fall under large as far as I am aware.
  18. So I took my cleats for their first proper spin today. Firstly, a few people can say "I told you so" as it felt a helluva lot better than my takkies. BUT.... Surprisingly the thing that stood out most to me was not improved peddling efficiency, which was what many indicated would be the main reason to switch, but rather how great it felt to go over bumpy sections at high speed while standing and your feet remain attached to the bike and in one place! No more readjusting your foot position the whole time or worrying about bouncing off altogether. I don't doubt that there is an improvement in peddling efficiency as I already felt myself pulling up and feeling resistance. Pulling up was obviously something that you (I?) naturally do but obviously with no benefit with takkies, or very little. Another BUT... I would still suggest that anyone new to the sport not bother with shoes and cleats immediately but rather just get out there on takkies and hit the trails. My reasoning is two fold. First, the additional expense. I assumse most people would have some type of takkies at home whereas going for cleats you are looking at about R800 minimum in total. Secondly, I now got to have a second round of excitement by switching over to cleats after 7 months of takkies. Prior to this I was able to push myself with confidence that I could put my feet down at any time. Now that I have that confidence the cleats are not as much of an issue as I'm sure they might have been if I was brand new on a bike. I'm sure others will disagree but this is my opinion based on just having gone through it myself
  19. Let me know what you find as I wouldn't also mind some custom stuff made
  20. As you were saying! No size, very little detail, one photo. Make an effort sellers! Remember YOU are trying to sell something. Make it easy to buy. Don't make me have to search the web for specs. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/31399-merida-tfs-100-mtb/
  21. You obviously missed this thread : https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/117554-who-want-to-show-me-mtber-from-far-away-a-beautiful-tour-in-your-region/page__view__findpost__p__1689516 A guy but then you never did specify a preference...
  22. You would think it is common sense. Not sure a rule about it would actually help but I suppose it is worth a try. No details, advert deleted. Perhaps then they will learn but it would involve policing.
  23. Even with the duties though it seems worth it. I look at the price of bib shorts and jerseys locally and I am seeing prices of around R600 for each item. At that online store you are looking at $53, so around R460, for a full set. So even with full duties and VAT I would be substantially better off. And that is without factoring in range and choice. EDIT: My mistake, further online research reveals those team kits to be more in the R800 range each locally.
  24. A friend mentioned that funny variation earlier, I will need to keep my eye out for that As regards both sides, I was doing this while practising earlier. I have ato admit that the left foot seemed to come out a lot easier even though I made the same number of click turns to each adjuster on the pedals. Perhaps the one cleat is at a slightly different angle.
