  2. I would find it rather insulting if my family felt I was only worth $25,000! I can only assume that is a mistake.
  3. 41 and he had to be told that it was dangerous to race on a road?! Wow! And Strava do not set the courses, other users set the course. They did not state he HAS to ride there.
  4. Full agree. I was trying to do this in a newbie thread the other day. All the "pros" were coming in stating that she should look at getting the best bike she can afford, with many suggesting a price range far in excess of what she had stated as her budget, but very few were bothering to tell her what to look out for. Best bike is far too subjective and does little to educate the newbie. Once you know what to look out for, and the hierarchy of components, it is actually rather easy to differentiate between bikes on a basic level. When you then see two similarly priced bikes but with slightly different components you are able to make a call on which should be better.
  5. Surely what is best would always be a little subjective? (EDIT: I see you recognised that already). One may have a slightly better fork, another slightly better components. Add to this the fact that I have on occasion seen the same bikes on two different sites with different components. And as someone else already mentioned that it would be constantly changing. Also you have a situation like mine where I picked up a R7k Silverback Phoenix for R4.5k on a clearance sale. Would we be using RRP price to categorize bikes or the best price available anywhere? The idea is nice but not sure how it will work in reality.
  6. DO IT!
  7. DO IT!
  8. Nope, not near as much. My bike is my selfish toy. My car is for the family. I would rather spend far more on the latter. Suppose the fact I am "old" changes my values. I also probably get more enjoyment for my bucks on my bike than many others on here
  9. SA thrashing Bangladesh. But still some worries. Parnell just doesn't seem to be getting it right very often nowadays. The team a bit sloppy in the field too but this is probably to be expected in the first match (although as professionals you should argue not).
  10. You know, you're such a ball of fun to be around
  11. Wonder what was taken for this? He must have a team around him that advises him but this was the same stimulant that two Boks were found to have taken and they are in a far more professional set up one would imagine.
  12. In South Africa, what assumption would you draw when someone states they tested positive... But anyway, I am already aware of your attitude towards most other people on here so don't worry yourself, and ignore my attempt at humour which was in shockingly bad taste.
  13. Anyway, based on the amended thread title, I really do not think anyone's HIV status is our business!
  14. Ahh, an anti-DA chap are you? And stop making up crap, yes she did switch to a tandem at doctor's order but I see no mention of a car: http://www.embark.co.za/index.php/2012/03/11/helen-zille-completes-the-argus/
  15. Prize Money for 2012: Position Men & Women Position 1 – 300,000.00 Position 2 – 145,000.00 Position 3 – 110,000.00 Position 4 – 55,000.00 Position 5 – 42,000.00 Position 6 – 25,000.00 Position 7 – 20,000.00 Position 8 – 18,000.00 Position 9 – 16,000.00 Position 10 – 14,000.00 And yes, I am fully aware of sponsor incentives for winning and the like but again that is probably only for the top one, maybe two at most.
  16. I don't think I am. He worked at ABSA. Someone loaded with money is not going to work at ABSA in the loans department. Where were Armstrong and Contador employed while they were competing? These guys run possibly two big races in a year and winning the one usually affects your chances of winning the next. The winner will get decent money but not sure many will be getting big money. Just because he says it does not make it right.
  17. Think you may be stretching the definition of professional when comparing Mamabolo to Tour De France riders http://www.sowetanlive.co.za/sport/2012/06/04/unpaid-leave-pays-for-mamabolo
  18. To tell you the truth I am not that into professional road cycling... but do those guys not do other weird things like "filtering/aerating" bloods and all sorts? Not sure that can be accidental.
  19. He was tested for methylexaneamine which had two Boks in trouble before. Further explanation of the substance here: http://www.health24.com/fitness/Diet_Supplements/16-481-513,59697.asp
  20. It really makes little sense if it was not accidental. This chap has finished second and seventh in the last two years so he must be fully aware that they test the top 10 finishers for banned stimulants. So unless he felt he would not finish in the top 10 then why would he risk it?
  21. Yip, not denying the fact that it's true but just don't like the drips and drabs initial reporting on Twitter from journalists. It's all about breaking the news now. By the time the actual facts come out the story is old news and no one cares about the details.
  22. Only a few tweets on Twitter thus far. The new form of journalism. Desperation to break a story first without all the details and facts.
  23. Actually there is far more to it than just the individual. These chaps do not act in isolation, they have teams around them and trainers. Yeah, he could have been sneaking it on the side but the more likely explanation is either that it was a team effort (unlikely) or one of those situations where he had some cough medicine or the like and tested positive (no excuse really).
  24. Is all interactions with the public not PR window dressing? The point is she is doing it and not just talking.
