  1. Little chip on the shoulder there? I have never heard anyone saying that they felt athletics was squeaky clean. I tend to find that in athletics the person is found out, banned and we all move on. In cycling the same stories seem to come out over and over again. This is not just about an individual but the reputation of a race and a nation. I would rather he never did test positive than laugh at the fact that he did.
  2. Why the laughter in the thread title? Rather sad news actually.
  3. Wonder when Zuma and his cronies will get on their bikes? Yet another reason everyone should be voting DA. Don't just talk the talk...
  4. Well in this instance I would then recommend that all avoid the first shop. Not everyone asks for a discount so effectively they are ripping folk off with more expensive goods. I doubt they'll offer the discount of their own accord.
  5. Nah, I tend to not have a problem with people whose mothers dress them funny because it at least shows they have a mother who loves them and they are not harbouring some flippant deep seated hatred towards others as a result of their loveless upbringing...
  6. Thanks for the advice but I am more of a point and laugh for starting in the first place kind of guy. And I'm not sure the first question I asked was totally unreasonable anyway. Smokers seem unable to sit through a 2 hour rugby match without puffing away at the back of the stands so I'm wondering how they manage a ride. EDIT : Ah, just realised who posted that response. Figures really. Next you'll be threatening to visit me in Durban again.
  7. Come on Durban folk, keep an eye on the Durban Critical Mass Facebook group and join in the fun: http://www.facebook.com/groups/cmassdbn/ As with the other groups around SA we ride on the last Friday of every month meeting at Moses Mabhida Stadium at 5:30pm. We also do Moonlight Mass rides which take place on the night of full moon every month with us meeting at 7:30pm (for an 8pm start) again at Moses Mabhida. This is not about professional cyclists and racing but rather about us getting on our bikes (any bikes) and taking a leisurely ride around our fabulous city. We head along the beachfront and then see where the route takes us. The streets are a great place to ride at night. No lights are necessary so don't let this put your off. Some of us have lights but the street lights often provide enough lighting and for the full moon rides it is always bright. Come on Durbs, let's get off those lazy asses and ride!
  8. So when you smokers do a 5 hour cycle do you stop for a smoke break along the way? And what do you do with your darn cigarette butts if you do?
  9. Instagram - allowing folks to take photos of decidedly mundane scenes, with inferior cameras, and call it art.
  10. Cool. Come join us at Giba Gorge some time...
  11. 12. Boston News has the Big Picture feature which always provides some interesting and stunning pictures. This one was related to all things bicycle so I thought I'd share it http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2012/06/pedal_power.html
  13. No need to be coerced into buying a Mac if the only reason is so that you can track your laptop if stolen. Check this out: http://lifehacker.com/5643460/how-to-track-and-potentially-recover-your-stolen-laptop-or-android-with-prey And get it here : http://preyproject.com/
  14. I partly disagree, I think it is not well attended for two reasons: 1. It is not well organised and marketed at all. I know it is not a Giba initiative per se but that of the users of the park but when I got my light I found the thread referring to the rides and asked if it was still happening. This was months ago and I am still awaiting a response. 2. Durbanites are shocking at committing to anything. We have been trying to arrange Critical Mass and full moon rides in Durban and although the facebook group has 58 members there are only about 5 active! Turn out is appalling at most of these rides and most are cancelled due to lack of interest. Probably the same reason most concerts are not brought to Durban any more.
  15. Quite a ride...
  16. As stated I've done two rides at Giba with the one helmet mounted and it suited me fine. No doubt more light would always be better but with the infrequent use I could not justify another grand.
  17. I almost kept bidding to get one but the LED Lenser light I already bought has only been used for two night rides in 9 months so I thought a second may be overkill! Perhaps we need to organise some Giba night rides.
  18. I have repeatedly admitted on many occasions on this same forum that name brands and feeling the need to always be better than the Joneses does not appeal to me in the slightest. Your attitude, which is precisely what I have also pointed out on numerous occasions, is sad. We don't all feel the need to spend R70,000 on the latest bike and another R20,000 on the latest kit just so that we look the part. Some us us enjoy our riding just as much on our cheap bikes, if not more so as we don't have to endlessly worry about breaking it or having it stolen. If pointing fingers and laughing at someone, who does not have a bike they had to take a loan for, makes you feel superior then have fun. My fork is already an air fork. As stated it is probably the only thing, after 9 months of riding it, that I would possibly think about upgrading but that was said just to put into perspective how the bike is more than suitable. I have no intention of upgrading. I always have a peek through the classifieds and I reckon that bargains are more scarce than some make out. It seems at the entry level most folk have "only ridden 100km in a year" and expect to get the same price they paid for the bike. You are far better off timing your bike purchases towards the end of a year and buying "new old model clearance" bikes when the shops are making space for the new models.
  19. For R10k you can get a very decent new 26" hard tail! You have not given us much in terms of your abilities and riding but based on the fact you have been riding a R2k second hand bike I'll make an assumption that you do not need top of the range components. To put things into perspective I got myself a Silverback Phoenix for R4500. It was a bargain price as I bought in November and it was a 2011 model so they were trying to make space for the 2012 range. I have been riding this bike since then and it has served me exceptionally well. Components are great and if I really wanted to pick something to change it would be the fork but it more than serves it's purpose. Here is the thread I started when I got my bike : http://www.thehubsa....k-phoenix-2011/
  20. Should I, shouldn't I?! Already have a light, which I rarely use, but perhaps if I had two I would suddenly use them....
  21. So where are all the details for the Asishove? The website seems to focus only on the road race, or am I missing something?
  22. How much is postage and packing going to cost to Durban?
  23. Ah, Mod issues, how I love forums....
