    Stem Length

Good to hear. I have never played with the geometry of my bikes, but feel that I need a bit more room on my hardtail - most comfortable on the barends. so will try a 100 or 105

    Stem Length

I was looking at installing a longer stem on my MTB - currently 90mm, with one about 105mm. On the weekend I read an old MTB review in mbr magaxine (the UK MTB magazine), and they were reviewing a MTB with a stem of 100mm and their comment was that no MTB should have such a long stem!!! Their reason is that you would be too far forward on the downhills. Any comments, experiences?
  5. Just looking at the photo's - everyone in arm warmers - is it cold? After 90km must have been late morning.
  6. Thanks for the feedback BL - here's hoping there is no rain...
  7. BL Great - waiting for you feedback on Never-ender. you going to do all the way to the coast - ie after checkpoint 7 as well?
  8. Hey BL Is the road much worse than last year? The road then was reasonably good.
  9. Thanks for the feedback BL - seems like we need a good set of lights for the downhills?
  10. BL - you doing TB on this bike? with no shocks and that saddle....ow?
  11. Just a point - if you are changing from tubeless to tube in a race - check for existing thorns in your tyre first, else you will then have a very short ride. Often with tubeless you have many thorns in your tyre, so run your hand around the tyre before putting back on - this can be difficult if the latex has got dry on the inside of the tyre
  12. sorry - should have been a hijacl for Dirty Twin
  13. DT - don't forget to report on road conditions for TB Thanks
  14. which of these are MTB's?

    Thule Bike Rack

I have the 3 bike Euroway carrier for your towbar. There is an adapter to carry a forth bike - anyone used or have experience with it?
  17. If you use the Ride-On type bike carrier (eg THULE Euroway 3), then sometimes the handle-bars touch the saddle of the other bike. Easier to lower the saddle - especially when you are tired after a race.

    SANI2C DVD

Did you get more than was on the TV?
  19. My relationship with Outsurance is perfect. I pay them every month for the bike and rack, and neither party hope to ever hear from the other Mine would be a claim and theirs would be a price increase...

    lights

This issue has been discussed before, and the limit is purely your budget, and whether you think that you will use them again. Night riding has become more common - so last year when I did TB, I went with a budget where I thought it was a once off. I now use the lights in the mornings, done One-Day Sani, doing TB again..... So take this into account - to spend R5k versus the R1k I spent, you need to get use.
  21. Stopping power is better with discs But that aside, the fact that you can break a spoke, bend a wheel and keep breaks is great on a MTB. Also if thee is lotsa mud, then there is less for the mud to clog if there are no brakes on the rim After doing Sani 3 years ago in the mud, no-one would want rim breaks again
  22. Isn't it only over when both sides say so? Not seen anything from Popeye?
  23. I think that the issue is that if you have done 7 days of the Epic, and battling to get in for the time limit, do you have the same awareness of the health of a fellow competitor, knowing that if you had to help, you would have lost your medal?

    Nice Wheels

MTB would not suite the car?
  25. So officiado's How would your training differ if you were just trying to finish - also coming off biking (mtb), but can run and swim. At the moment focussed on londer rides (one day Sani, Baviaans etc) Heard some talk that you need to train 18 hrs a week for riding and running, PLUS long swims... whew
