  1. If you stay in KZN, you are going to want to do Sani2C, Berg&Bush etc - all are better with a soft-tail..... the HT might be a bit lighter, but not as comfortable, and does not climb or descend as well as a ST
  2. 2nd 29er that you have built with those rims - you happy with them?
  3. Hey Gareth Stock Availability might be your decider - you can probably also include a Niner RIP (see pics elsewhere on the hub)
  4. Also just committed to a 29er The article is more aimed at 26" - don't buy some of his arguments, but generally seems to be you get a slightly bigger wheel, but can keep the same geometry etc. In my mind you should re-look at the entire geometry if you change a part of it...
  5. Understand cycleq - unless they delay the shipping of the container, and like everything else, SA goes to the back of the queue.....
  6. Anyone know how this will affect the timing of delivery. I was looking at the 29er (which is not affected bu the issue), and want to see if this is going to affect that delivery?
  7. 45k versus 35k - surely the frame cannot be that much more Is the RIP 35k for full XT?
  8. Saw him at FPC in Paulshof the other day, so if you call them they should have his details still
  9. Sorry - one other - MTB or Road?
  10. So how many in the group and is it a training group or just to "get out there"?
  11. me too - battle as looking for an XL FS bike
  12. Good to see that there are some reasons for the water shortage, other than just bad management. Wonder if the ratio for same-day entry is for other MTB events though - maybe because it was N. Farm people who were going to just ride entered, but then they should have had their own water? Anyway lets hope there are some learnings out of this, and not just a blanket cancellation of same-day entries.
  13. Go to the Ride Before you Buy at Groenkloof this weekend - If you can get me off the Stumpy then you can test it there - nothing like riding the actual bike
  14. Scolly -that would be the Engen ride - really busy there - multiple groups / speeds etc there
  15. and they much quieter - no whine when going fast
  16. Good to see Elton is still there - I had kit made up a few years ago - time to get some new stuff
  17. I bought 2x Cateye's (in case you fall and one breaks). They use penlights, but I get a whole night out of a set of batteries (on Baviaans etc), but easy to keep a spare set of batteries in case. I then use them for my early morning rides. You could get just 1 and then use a headlight - the headlight allows you to see your computer sothat you know how far you have gone - a headlight is also useful if you have technical issues. So get a headlight and a bar-light
  18. Another thing - it seems that every year there is a Ride-before-you-buy - Cape Town has had theirs already this year. At these events, there are many manufacturers with bikes to test - including 29er's. Pretoria session is next weekend You probably do not want to wait at least 6 months for the next one in Cape town though - miss summer...
  19. I am going through the same (slightly beefier - 190cm and 100kg) - I spoke to a bike shop who said that rather look for more travel as a big guy - so swop the Anthem for a Trance? I am also looking at the 29ers By the way there is a Ride-before-you-buy later this month at Groenkloof (19th), probably the best place to chose - hopefully there are XL's there (last year I tested 2x 29er's)
  20. Which event - Desert Bash - if so there is a topic currently running on that one
  21. Bad Luck Been riding there and also locked my bikes whilst we had lunch. What rack was it? The place is busy - did no-one see the theft?
  22. Size does matter - what sizes? Probably the best is to lok at something like eBay where there are always these being sold, or do a search on the hub. Then chose a price, if it is too high then the hub members will quickly let him know in their normal subtle way
  23. Just a note MAtchstix - is that for 2nd hand as well?
  24. HiJack on Confirming that there is no import duty on a frame - those that bought Also does anyone know how 2nd hand bikes are treated as per the import duties - looking at a 29er on eBay hijack off thanksFlea2009-08-17 08:33:28
  25. Ok - the one past the dump? been on that one often, my in-laws in Vanes. Only once at night though
