    My new 29er

You the guy I met on Breedts on Sat? Welcome to the Evolve stable - colour looks good... Regarding the Flexishield - BBB (FPC has in stock) make something for bikes as do the motorbike shops, but supposedly not neccessary for the Elsworth as there is no paint to chip - have you had any issues on your truth? Will look out for you in March
  2. The problem is the geometry - many of the exercise machines do not resemble your bikes geometry - especially if you are a clydesdale. So what I have done is put a slick onto an old hardtail and put it on a turbo trainer - same geometry and not too much wear as there is no dirt. Agree you cannot use your only bike as that does not work when in for a service, and it is too much hassle to put on the trainer when required.
  3. Both you doing it on a HardTail? Surely your @ss deserves better? Mine is a plush 29" Soft Tail
  4. Size does matter though - my 22" Evolve is 13kg - as on the road (pedals, sealant, grips, bottle cage etc) That was before I added the Polar sensor, bar-ends, lights and saddle bag though. Have not tried to make lighter yet - just happy to be out there riding
  5. How technical were the rides that they took you the same time to go up as come down? When I do hills like that, the upslope is gentle and the down almost vertical? How far were the rides? You making me feel bad that I am not doing 7hr rides?
  6. You still have lots of time to spend in the saddle to get tough!!!!!
  7. Summit - are you trying to save weight by going smaller - or is there some other advantage?

    29er Wheels

I am using the American Classics - riding for about 6 weeks now - no problems, and very light Mine is standard with the AC hubs etc, not like Anton's who is using another hub and spoke, but same rims

    Bottle Cages

saw the quack today - he said - pull the pin out - small op and I should be on the bike again in days (no backpack yet), but after 2/3 weeks all will be back to normal So I will stick to my normal CB with juice and bottle on the bike with water....
  10. Did you start with just the frame - the Fork is normally the Team? Maybe with that colour frame and those wheels, you should have gone for white? How are you getting the wheels lighter - new spokes? Same rims and hubs?
  11. For those worried about cycleaddicts rep - he is an April Fool, so anything is up?

    Bottle Cages

Normally never a problem - done 1 day Sani, Baviaans, 3 day events no problem. But had a fall earlier this year and the collarbone needed to be pinned. just recently it seems as if something is sticking out and rubbing against the strap - I have an old CB Mule by the way, 2005 about So just worried about day 4+ - was a bit tender after this weekends riding - 2 days of 4.5 hours All of the packs seem to have about the same padding etc - anyone know different?

    Bottle Cages

Predictor - that is my problem....I know the top guys get away with 2 bottles, but I do not think someone who rides an XL could... Will try looking at some way of padding.... Looking for some inovation from the ranks
  14. Ok, so I am doing the Epic, but cannot use a Camelback (pin in the shoulder rubs, and not enough time to get removed....) Running a FS so the bike takes only 1 bottle - what are my options? carry a spare bottle in my jersey pocket - does this work? put a bottle cage behind the seatpost - gets dirty and does it hold? (i have an XL so space for sadle bag and bottle) put on one of those triathlon double bottle holders onto the back of the seat - I believe they break and do not allow you to take your bum over the back of the seat for the downhills? drill into the frame and put on the bottom of the downtube - bottle gets dirty and is your warranty gone? will 2 bottles be enough for the long stages for someone in the back half of the field? Normally would take a bottle with water and a pack with juice? about 3.5 litres? Just put more padding on the shoulder? Any other ideas?
  15. Do you get the IDT tyre in 26"?
  16. Getting there - still some work to be done No more "lie-in's" - time to get serious.....
  17. Hey Brussel Doing so much at once does not tell us what caused the issue - now go undo all those things and do them one at a time....

I will be joining the Red group at FPC
  21. Presume that this is for Cape Town residents?
  22. Free Bump I also have them on my 29er - new - noise started on 2nd ride.... I had the same on my Juicy's (prev bike) - thought it was just the bike complaining about getting that weight to a halt The sound comes from both, but more pronounced from the back. Is it the rotor?
  23. Kiwi Just days too late - see my Ellsworth pic......
