  1. Yup, not over shoulder! underneath shoulder/arm for a quick glimps!
  2. I hide all my maps & data on Endo. Aggregate stats are available. Maps, etc are available on Strava, but I've set up privacy zones so exact home/office/friends locations are not available.
  3. I'm more worried about what happens next when I have an upset stomach, but am too chilled to worry about it!
  4. Water in Witbank stinks like an open coal mine. In Carolina the municipality was compelled to provide clean drinking water.... Those are only 2 examples
  5. But first they need to provide clean water in all town/municipal areas EDIT: No help to drink dirty water with St Johns Wort in
  6. Would love to profile the "legalise" vs "attitude" groups according to MBTI indicators. xxTJ vs xxTP groups, I'm pretty sure
  7. Coastal / inland provinces (used to) have different schedules. www.saschools.co.za for calendars (Current and next year) From above: "All the provinces follow the same school terms in 2014."
  8. License disks for bicycles will not solve any real issues for bicycles. Too small for cameras, Need close physical contact to obtain details... It will only create an administrative nightmare for authorities, AND for cyclists. It will be a financial obligation on the poor who can already not afford cars/taxis/whatever and need to rely on bicycles. It won't change attitudes either Problem is attitudes. We need to change that and that starts with (y)ourself. As per the Ghandi "Be the change that you want to see in the world", or some such... More laws are not the solution, it merely creates criminals out of ordinary people.
  9. GOG, that is the exact problem. Attitudes. If our (all of us in the sunny old R of SA) attitudes were better then there will be no need for a call to put number plates on bicycles. And if our attitudes were better we will put those same disks/plates on our bicycles. Somehow, somewhere (at home and in school) we need to bring about a change in attitudes. Cannot force a change in attitude by more laws/rules.
  10. Lets say the remoteness of some locations is NOT a problem... Questions: 1. Licensing disk info are not generally available (only to law enforcement). This does not stop drivers from breaking the law, does it? 2. How will a disk on a bike flag the bike as stolen? It is not as if stolen motor vehicles have flashing lettering on their plates Also, how to afix said disk to modern bicycles? sticking it on with some sort of glue/epoxy (what happens in case of transfer of ownership, non-payment, etc or will some 'appie' drill holes into carbon / titanium / other exotic materials? If this, how will that affect warranties? It sounds a lot like a nice to have and not a solution to wanton disregard for road rules by ALL road users.
  11. And the bloke out in the sticks, far away from a licensing department / municipal office? How do you propose they license that? Easier to get out of the sticks with a motor car to renew a disk than with a bicycle!
  12. Cannot join on Sunday. Alma Mater segment is only 1km long. 64m elevation difference. Try it Alternatively, there is a shorter version: John Hoatson. 725m, 47m difference
  13. Of late parking & finish area at the Jacaranda race is a shambles ...
  14. Just don't KOM together up the same hill
  15. join 'tehubsa' club
  16. Thug, I'll follow you with immediate effect! edit: Thug, you have 4 followers now!
  17. Downhill power calcs are off, and when you are riding in a peloton power calcs are off. Otherwise it is "reasonable" Remember power calcs are specific to a rider (and lesser extend a power meter)
  18. How Strava is Changing the Way We Ride (Might have been posted before?) Comment by the creator of Strava: “Ever since there have been bikes and cars, there have been bike and car accidents. You’re in charge of your own safety and the safety of those around you when you’re riding or running.” So be careful out there!
  19. SportTracks does not have an open web presence*1. All the others do. *1 Yeah I know about sporttracks.mobi which is in closed beta... Am a member there
  20. Click on the description(normally a date) of the ride in question. This will take you to the activity that resulted in the 'stolen'/false KOM. Flag this. Bottom right there is a "Flag This" button. Click, and tell your story. Not sure whether the comments gets sent to the "car driver", or whether Strava looks at it. I do suspect the first option though
  21. Indicating the distance between the cyclist in the background and the car in foreground
  22. DOF is a term used in photography
  23. As I said it is not the panacea to safety whilst cycling. Just like air bags are safety belts are not the be all and end all for safety in a car. It works well, to very well, in a lot of scenarios, but it comes with its own dangers! Mileage on individual scenarios will differ oh, and I've cracked two lids in 4 years. Luckily no pips yet!
  24. And once in a car accident, 20 years ago, I did NOT wear a safety belt. Not wearing it saved my life! Roof got torn off, I was flung out of the car, car landed upside down on windowsills with top of door frames bent in... There is a story out there to proof or disproof whatever we want!
  25. You guys are adding a few selective NOTs to his statement. Does not falsify, nor oppose what he said. Being aware, and removing your yourself from a possible injurious incident without a helmet is still better than rolling into it WITH a helmet. He never said do NOT wear a helmet, he said that people think they are protected from all (major?) harm when they wear a helmet and hence take risks they would not take if they did not wear it. Much like a rock climber with a safety rope... Will you take bigger risks with or without a safety rope/harness? In anycase, wear your helmet AND be vigilant. Remember YOU are the only thinking person on the road! And possible, the only one out there that cares about your safety!
