  1. To add: As it's your first race, start in the back quarter of your batch. The guys in front are normally over-confident, the guys right behind them are the guys that can peddal like hell, and the guys behind them are the guys that are actually there to enjoy the race/ride for what it's worth. 90% of a race's enjoyment is the ride - make sure you take in the sights and sounds, ride safe rather than be sorry afterwards, don't push yourself in your first 'race' - use it to suss out the scene, and the pace - the pace is normally a shocker for first timers Above all, remember to enjoy the ride! Don't worry about your time or speed etc etc - save that for later, when you do your umpteenth race and want to rev it! Small things matter, like packing two days before the race, all your kit that you need on the bike, all your kit you need off the bike. At the Advendurance races there are mobile showers for after the ride, take a towel, soap and slops with. And don;t forget the beer money!
  2. Hey, I picked two of those up on Klapperkop, and another one at a Babbas race
  3. Saddlebags - the second most embarrassing thing to leave your zip undone on ...
  4. As it was explained to me when asking about TUE, if it carries UCI status, it can be classified as 'international event' I wouldn't want to run to SAIDS for a TUE for every snot nose I get, but for chronic stuff, why not? Or am I allowed to cheat because I've only ever been good enough for B batch in Trailseeker half marathons? My point of view, good for the goose, good for the gander. Test everyone.
  5. Just commute. And if you happen to be able to, maybe even once or twice a week, go further/longer, then great.
  6. I think, of course IMNSHO, that cyclists have a worse reputation than taxis. When a taxi misbehaves, everyone goes "Oh whatever" but if a cyclist does it - all hell breaks loose.
  7. I may as well sniff some EPOL or something, as both heart meds are described as 'masking agents' lol.
  8. TUE - a bitch to get, but with proper diagnosis it's not difficult. I've got one for the first med, waiting and waiting and waiting about the second one, which was added two months ago.
  9. Yes. No I also think that testing is ridiculous - I mean I'm on two meds for high blood pressure, and both of them are banned. As well as most cold meds ... but I know that, because I actually read the rules *gasp shock horror*
  10. Possibly at the point of greatest return? Ie where they are more likely to catch a cheater ... so, it would make sense to test in the pack - or as Dangle once put it "37 year old C-batch riders"
  11. All the cheaters? Or just 'the guys at the front' that cheats? And, what's the difference? Cheating is cheating, no?
  12. I was just wondering - if this was a trial by jury, as they do in the States (United, not Free) - what do you think the verdict would be? With the awesome reputation us cyclists have ... scary scary thought.
  13. Relax you pip - they just want you to meet Jesus! (OK quietly going to hell now)
  14. Oh been there done that. Potato bass are evil sonsofbeaches. You dive on Umkomaas, you get taxed by them (and the Brindle bass, they get even bigger)
  15. And be carefull swinging away from a car door - it's straight into traffic (from behind) - coulda been real ugly.
  16. He he ... love the B batch - you get to catch up to the A-batch bootys
  17. The first time in three years I've said eff-it it's too cold to commute.
  18. Been there done that - I used to be a tour guide, last minute **** sometimes are really last minute Also had mega land access issues when I used to be chairman of the Jeep club and did tours/routes over multiple properties ... and once one owner moans, they ALL moan
  19. Did the half marathon on a HT - loved every single mile of it. To be fair, some of the trails were still very rough with plenty of grass, but this year I had my sense of humor intact and no back pain Issues experienced were not the trails, they were the organizer's - markings, marshals etc.
  20. BTW who won the #DunlopSelfie comp? My phone refused to take pics on Saturday - weirdness.
  21. Fnuik you can also load up on some magnesium before the race - two to three days before the race, pop a couple of cheap dischem magnesium tablets a day. Damn nice rote, damn nice venue, well organized event, I really enjoyed it (even the graspolle ) but was still sitting ith after effects of a cold so went slow and steady. 2:21 for the half.
  22. The people scanning you into the pens can move you down batches, but best is to do it at registration.
