  1. Loosen your grip a tad - don't let go completely, but a tight grip gives you sore wrists. Do core-work off the bike. Sit-ups, crunches, lunges, planks etc. Should help a ton in a month or two.
  2. I've got a half marathon entry that I'm not going to be able to use.
  3. SOunds awesome.
  4. So, what's the alternative? Don't cycle this road then? Oh wait, what were you doing again? That' right, cycling this road. With a camera/cellphone in your hand. I'm just wondering if you actually thought things through before you made this thread ... what was your point again?
  5. Quite a few bugs (like cutworms and certain aphids) are night dwellers, and are more active if there's more light at night. Thus, small plants during full moon = better chance of getting damage.
  6. I'm taking some first-timers/beginners there on Monday ... but they have pretty much zero tech skills so will end up teaching more than riding.
  7. Apod stroller is the bee's knees. Take it on 'singletrack' all the time. I've gone to bigger volume bmx tires (I Think 2.2"?) and also gehtto tubeless. gives a bit of cushioning on the rougher bits.
  8. And don't forget the GoPro! If you cans wing it, three: One on your bars facing forward, one on your bars upwards towards your face, and one under your seat to show everyone you've passed.
  9. I'm with Wyatt - Go till you blow. Go stand riiiight in the front, and just hammer it. If someone yells "Trek" they're complimenting you on how fast you're going . as in "Did you see that guy trek out front"
  10. You need to plan GoPro rides like you plan a century or a big race. You need to come up with a story, scout, try some lines, scout again, then write a story line that may work. THEN you go and shoot, set up different shots of the same scene, go ride it over and over and over (or get your mates / subject to do it) and then go edit it. Going from 2 hours of raw/unplanned GoPro footage to something you'd actually watch is not likely to happen. Unless you get a Buck Norris moment, which if you think about it, was 30 seconds of 2 hour's footage .... Sure, strap you GoPro on every ride, and afterwards download to your computer, view it, and in my opinion, if there's no interesting bits, discard it. If there's interesting bits, make a 'wide cut' of it and store it for future use. That way, you can build up a library of interesting Groenkloof footage, for example. In a year's time, you may even have enough to make a 'sick edit'
  11. Entered and paid. It would be nice if we didn't have to walk that horrorhouse of a hill again .... but then again I'm 4 or 5 batches up this time around, so may get a chance to ride all of it this time.
  12. Tire liners helps with glass cuts, tubeless does not. Haven't seen Kevlar in SA, maybe from online?
  13. Dude. Dammn. That's more than just a tad rough ....
  14. Oi.. can't they just all not cheat? Oi.. can't they just all not dope?
  15. I second Maniyak cycles. There's a dedicated beginners / novice mtb group ride every Saturday, as well as an advanced mtb ride on Saturdays. On Sundays there's aither a road ride or a serious mtb session, like to harties and back, Cullinan and back etc. They're in Braam pretorius, rides start at 06:00 this time of year.

  21. No, just chatted to someone on the phone, and busy testing some ideas for next weekend's Voortrekker camp with the paracord. Slings (As in David & Goliath) hiking staff wraps etc
  22. 30m Paracord is closest. Next to it is Multitool (Stanley) as well as cellphone (for the 'after' pics)
  23. :D Really, really glad to see I still beat you on most of the segments on the Kop, I was getting worried Fortunately Base Training is done for the year so now I can rev it up again lol.
  24. Yup. It's easier to keep heart rate in a certain range when on tar, especially if it's wet But I cannot resist that last rocky climb to the tower.
