  1. Looks like it was a while ago (13 June): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=970994535029827&set=a.515487680580517&type=3&_rdr

  3. A few pictures from the first few groups.
  4. I had this happen on a CRC order some years ago. CRC told me just to reject the delivery, and it then gets sent back to them. Just tell the courier it was a duplicate.
  5. The Tokai neighbourhood watch have previously helped me to get pictures when somebody tried to hijack me along there. It's worth contacting them: https://tncw.org.za/contact.aspx
  6. I'm looking to buy from https://www.bikehit.de/en/ Has anybody used them? They're the only people who seem to stock the out-of-date parts (Shimano shifter) that I'm looking for, otherwise I'd choose something more well known. I have people in Germany that I'll send to, so shipping etc. won't be a problem. Thanks
  7. I see it was now 6 years ago, so who knows. My post from the time is here:
  8. Sorry to hear about the bike. Some guys tried the same thing on me a few years ago, in the same place, at the same time of day, also on a Sunday, but fortunately their car stalled and I managed to get away.
  9. You might be able to find what you're looking for on https://wheelsmfg.com/derailleur-hangers/manufacturers/gt.html or https://derailleurhanger.com/manufacturer/gt/ Whether it's worth the price you'll pay, and shipping and VAT and hassle, is another matter.
  10. https://wheelsmfg.com/derailleur-hangers/manufacturers/cube/derailleur-hanger-149.html The shipping is more than the hanger. $60 roughly + VAT and clearance and all that good stuff.
  11. I'm not sure. Both use a bit more power than usual because they're talking to your GPS and the internet, but if you're using Strava at the time it probably doesn't make much difference because your GPS is on anyway.
  12. WhatsApp: (In a conversation with your wife): Attach -> Location -> Share live location -> 8 hours Google Maps: Account (tap your profile pic on the top right) -> Location Sharing -> Get Started -> Share your real-time location -> For 1 hour (click '+' a few times to get it up to 3/4/5/6 hours). Then select either your wife's Google login (on the top row), or send via email or WhatsApp (bottom row) If you want to do this without a phone, your wife can try the Racetec app, but it usually doesn't work.
  13. Hi Naas, We agree with each other here. It's either: 16.5% of Value or15% of (Value + 10% of Value),which is the same thing. That's where the R250 (= 10% of R2500) in my calculation came from. Where our calculations differ is that while the R250 is used for VAT calculations, the R250 is not added into the final total that SARS charges. I have a SAD500 form here that shows an example, but I can't figure out how to attach the image.
  14. My experience is that the extra 10% is only used for VAT calculations, and is not added to the final price. So, according to my calculations: Duties: R2500 * 0.4 = R1000 VAT: (R2500 + R1000 + R250) * 0.15 = R562.50 (R250 = 10% of R2500) Total: R2500 + R1000 + R562.50 = R4062.5 Still not as much of a bargain as it looked to start off with, but may be worthwhile. You can find a calculator here: https://tradelogistics.co.za/tools/calculators/vat-duty-calculation/
  15. I believe that bicycle tyres are exempt from this requirement: http://www.itac.org.za/upload/Gazette%2022%20December%202016.pdf A friend's bicycle tyre import was held by Aramex because of this, but they let it through after he showed them this doc.
  16. Last year the 'racing age group' groups were combinations of age groups. If I remember correctly (after putting the best 200 or so people into $) they combined the fastest 20-30 year old and 30-40 year old riders into one group, and then the fastest 15-20 year old and 40-50 year old riders into another group. I think it (the second 'racing age group') is the best seeding you can get if you're 40+ and you're not in the $ group.
  17. If it went via regular mail, that's not unusual. If it went via one of the courier methods, it sounds slow. If you want your order to go via courier and not pay the extra amount, your best bet is to make sure your order weighs more than about 2.5 kg, or is bigger than about 70 cm (I don't remember the exact dimensions). If you still haven't got your order after about 3 months, send CRC an email. They're very good about sorting these things out.
  18. Thanks for the warning. Was about to leave for the expo. Keep us posted.
  19. The nice thing about early forecasts is that there are so many to choose from, and they change so quickly. If you prefer heat, windguru now promises 30 degrees. If you prefer a fresh south-easter, yr.no has you covered.
  20. Yes. Just give them the race number (which should be emailed/SMSed to you), and your chip (just in case). I always end up collecting for everybody at my office - never had a problem.
  21. I had this problem with some Mavic rims. I tried the credit card thing, but it didn't help me. What sorted it out for me was the following: Find a friend, and a steep downhill with a wall next to it.Put the friend on the bike, facing downhill, leaning on the wall, with the rear brakes (only rear) firmly pulled.Loosen the brake screws a bit so that the pads can freely align themselves with the rim. Get the friend to wiggle around a bit. Tighten the screws.Repeat for front.
  22. The first Detour year they actually proposed that - but going via Smits rather than Red Hill. The route was going to be about 118 km if I remember correctly. The reason they eventually skipped Constantia Nek and Suikerbossie was because the people in Hout Bay were worried that they were going to be stuck there the whole day.
  23. The guys from Bike+ (just next to Groot Constantia) ride at about 5:30 in the morning, usually over Constantia Nek, Chapman's Peak, and Ou Kaapse Weg I think. I see them quite often but don't ride with them, so don't know exact details.
  24. Agree with this. I've had a pair that lasted for about 5 years (15000 km of riding approximately as I alternated with other pairs). They can be difficult to find in the shops though, but I think you can get them at bicyclegear.co.za. What I like in particular is that the stitching on the edge of the chamios pins the edges down well - I've had comfort problems from other brands where the stitching allows the edge of the chamois to stick out.
  25. I've just got an email from the Cycle Tour with a link to my certificate. The link doesn't work, and needs a bit of tweaking: If your email is like mine, the link will say: http://certificates.racetec.co.za/report/Certificates/CT2014_ResultsCertificateA5/?eid=2014&pid=%%123||PERSONID% To get your certificate, you'll need to: click on the first link (it won't work) chop off the last part (after the last =) replace it with your Argus reference number - the one that appears in the subject of all the emails you get from the Argus people: Something like this should do the trick: http://certificates.racetec.co.za/report/Certificates/CT2014_ResultsCertificateA5/?eid=2014&pid=12345 where the 12345 should be your reference number.
