    MTB Hubs

Depends on the design of the hub ' date=' but having more pawls or in some cases sets of pawls that engages is one of the mechanisms used to reduce the degrees movement before engagement.? The time it takes to engage is not about the pawl moving inwards towards the centre as I guess you are picturing it, it is about how far the freewheel moves (turns) in comparison with the hub before the next pawl or set of pawls engages. For example it can be done in the following way:"<font size="1" face="Verdana"><strong style="font-weight: 400;">The Industry Nine drive mechanism is a fairly simple, tried-and-true pawl arrangement. When engaged, each of the three driving pawls itself has three points, providing nine points of contact to the hardened A2 drive ring. The drive ring has 60 teeth, which would normally allow a 6-degree engagement ? among the fastest in the industry. Industry Nine proprietary mechanism allows for a second set of three pawls, phased three degrees from the first. This feature cuts engagement time in half, to a mind-blowing three degrees! Their lightning quick take-up has become highly desirable on singlespeeds, twenty-niners, and disciplines with gate starts. "[/quote'] Thanks for clarifying your thoughts what i was thinking is that no matter how quick the free hub will engage with the ratchet and pawls it all depends on how quick you you start to pedal for the wheel to be driven forward for example if you have these industry 9 wheels and you have the reflexes of a dead cow it doesnt really matter how fast the ratchet and pawls engage in single track or anywhere else for that matter
  2. yea dylan one at a time and a big heavy pot with loads of heat
  3. your stove is not hot enough or your pot is not heavy enough!!!
  4. if they are 6 bolt rotors put them under a pot while cooking your dinner tonight and then just leave them there to cool off for a bit and they will be straight on your ride in the morning

When riding singletrack it is nice though if your hub engages "quicker"? (Less degrees movement before it engages) retro even if there are more ratchets they will all be in the same position on the actual spline so therefore no matter how many ratchets you have the time it takes for one of them to engage is the same amount of time it will take all the others to engage It is round after all!!!!
  6. i hope he gets crabs and his fingers turn into fish hooks this is utterly disgusting i am saddened by this Chris Rip and my sincerest condolences to the family
  7. You should know....cause you've had to do that test a few times after a ride nope used to work in a bike shop that imported bikes remember ride aluminium too broke to afford carbon insurance!!!!! Silly me: I thought you did that to avoid being labelled a ponce by Mampara i dont mind being labelled a ponce carbon is pretty but the best part about me riding alu is that when i ride away from rich boys in the morning training bunch they dont have an excuse!!!!
  8. hahaha that really sucks hopefully the larsen works well good luck

  14. Sorry for the hi-jack Doug are you the doug that was chatting to carl gavin and myself at yesterdays expo????????????????????
  15. that is a common misconception the faring (deepsection part) is the only thing made by hed
  16. good buy ridr you wont regret the buy i promise you but now i am jealous!!!!!!!!
  17. Hey Ridr was good to meet you today corima's are very good wheels very well built and very good after sales service from swift cant really go wrong there bontrager are also very good wheels but as johan would say they have a very suspect spoking pattern lent from the rolf wheels that is more marketing hype than actual good wheel building (i stand corrected with that last phrase because i cant remember the exact words he used) with the bontrager you are also safe with spares as it is built on a DT swiss hub and spokes so that is very reliable the Zipp in my opinion is the most hyped about wheel and the most punted wheel but i think because "everyone" has a set of zipps it is too common out of the three wheels i would rather go for the corima's but the bontragers are a great buy for the price that carbon is asking!!!
  18. bob go to the louis garneu stand speak to gavin or katie and speak to them about kit fully imported bib shorts for R400 or so you obviously were not looking in the right place
  19. get any coin andtap around the scratch and then tap on the scratch if the tone changes when you tap on the scratch it is a crack but if not then it is fine!!
  20. Dude! Stop! Slow down! Take a breath! Punctuation helps. i was never good with punctuation and i do everything fast or at least try!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. i just got home was helping out at the FiT/ Louis Garneu stand ladies were decent but you guys didnt have the view that i had the cape storm girl was amazingly beautiful i really cant believe you guys missed out on that one other than that the adidas girls were the same girls they get for every expo and the bar one girls are also the same ones as last years 94 expo so nothing really has changed if i might punt a quick one louis garneu is selling gloves at the old price so if you ride with thier gloves and dont want to pay the new price go grab a set or two it really is a good deal!!!!
  22. welcome snork i am sure whatever happens you will feel welcome and if ever you need a training partner i am sure most of us will jump at the opportunity!!!!
  23. from what i have experienced with american classic overall it is a great product with good after sales service as far as ride feel other than if you get your saddle height wrong i dont think carbon or alu makes a difference i have ridden both carbon and alu and spend loads of time on my bike and still dont feel the difference for that price i am sure it is a pretty good deal but remember that you might find the exact saddle post for less under a different brand name not trying to make you change your mind but i am sure there is something that kiwi or tokenfreak will be able to offer you for a competitive price and at a similar weight send them a pm i am sure they will be able to help you out
  24. i would use one of each all around the wheel it would look uber cool!!!!!!
