  1. Comrades 2019, quick Recap from Press Conference 9th June - Up Normal start, Scottsville finish 86.73kms 12hr cut off Entries open 19 October R600 for Sa residents - R3800 for Foreign New Qualifying of 4h50 - 6h45 for Oceans 2 New Medals Roche Kelly Medal- Womens Wally - from 11th - 7h30 Robert Mtshali Medal - 9hrs to 10hrs They seem to keep watering this race down Have they never heard of the saying - If it aint broken don't fix it...
  2. So far my Original pair is on about 390kms (all just Racing and Tempo/TT sessions), was keeping them under 400kms just in case the new VF Flyknit didn't arrive in time for Amsterdam. The bounce and plate still feels great, I would think a Minimum of 600kms..
  3. Mine arrived today  just need to run them in before Amsterdam.. I also have the previous Vaporfly launched in Feb'18... worth every cent... IMHO
  4. Wow, and even crazier the Girls 15yo WR for the Marathon is 2h29... Insane..
  5. Best Program, I'm using it for my 4th end year marathon in 4 years Just re-adjusted this time to 10% quicker on all the zones and track times to chase closer to 2h42 I even use the last 4 week taper of this program into Two Ocean's Ultra and Comrades to sharpen up
  6. This is the NB part of the trip The run is just a subsidiary, thus why I'm arriving late (Thursday) and staying for a week afterwards. My Race number is 558... I see I got seeded "White" with the sub2h40s and the "Kipchoge's" of the world... Could be a fun first few kms… Stretch, where are you staying? We must try Hook up at the expo for a sneaky beer.
  7. Nothing against Brooks or Saucony, I personally think the Brooks T7 was the best racer ever made (prior to the Vaporfly 4% of course) and I loved the Saucony Kinvara's. They are both super brands. As you said its just mainly the 2 brands he stocks so he will always push you that way to make sure you walk out with a new pair of shoes...
  8. Mike is great, knows his stuff and does a great analysis. he is also super for Myofascial release and all round good guy.. also good for Bike setups etc etc.. Only thing I found is he is very Tunnel visioned on the shoes he wants to sell you post appointment... he will sell everyone onto Brooks or Saucony….and he had a little "On" phase But he is a hater of Nike, Asics (only recently, he used to sell them) and Adidas... he will give you reasons why they are terrible choices but I'm not always convinced..
  9. Definitely is, if you add the 19sec split from 21 to 21.1, and then the 2.36 you get the 2.55ish... see overall time through 21km (1:00.46) and 22km (1:03.40) you get 2.54... I watched from start to finish, no way he blew a 2.36km anywhere... I think the 2.43 first km was the quickest..
  10. 22km split is only 900m from the 21.1 split to 22km Mark So in essence still running 2.55 pace
  11. Personally for me, No doubt whatsoever Comrades is a Harder Day. I did IM 2012 and 2013 and the Training is Super time Consuming and intensive doing all 3 sports.. Ok I was on a Sub10 program so I was putting in 20-22 Hours per week in peak weeks.. But even for the average person wanting to finish you need 12 hours per week minimum... The day itself is Awesome, every time you are just about sick of 1 discipline you get to switch over... Don't get me wrong the marathon at the end is Super Tough but its over in 3.30 -5 hours. Comrades monotony is never ending and the pain is relentless.. however you can run silver on 8hours per week max which is a pleasure... just to finish programs can get away with a lot less... Again, just my opinion/experience from doing 2 IM races and 5 Comrades... on that note though I WILL go back one day, I have unfinished business with IM..
  12. And IM is still a crap load easier than Comrades IMHO The Training is more Labour Intensive but the day itself is nowhere near as tough...
  13. Haha Thanks, but was far from Easy... that route was a proper b$%th, 390m Elevation I'm paying for my Bad lifestyle choices since Comrades.. 7 Weeks to Amsterdam to slim this ship down and steer it in the right direction...
  14. Alberto Salazar.... Heads the Nike Oregon Centre.... was center of Big drug allegations a few years back surrounding Mo Farah and Galen Rupp.... (and their Kenyan training camp)…. where there's smoke...….
  15. I saw that... I rode a Wattbike - twice.... The last time I dusted my Bike off for a Quick Out ride I ended in ICU with a broken Leg... Tell us about the NEW Steed
  16. Hey Lexx I run in both the Adios Boston (about 220g) and the Adizero Boston (around 240g). The Adios is lighter/Faster and more responsive but I battle to get 400kms out of them even though they say they both have the same Continental sole (In my opinion they don't)… The Adizero Boston's are my main go to training shoe and I have been through at least 10 pairs in the last 4 years... Those I now get closer to 700kms on before I start feeling they are a bit flat (then I downgrade them to my Gym/Cross training shoes and then eventually to my action cricket shoes) I've always raced though up to the Marathon distance in the Brooks T7s until they discontinued them last year... I tried the Replacement Brooks Hyperion for CT Marathon last year but they are just not the same. However in Feb I got my hands on a pair of Nike Vaporfly 4%'s and I'm battling to look past them as Racing shoe... Only problem is they are hard to find and super expensive.. BUT they are THAT good. The Nike new cushioned sole is just so comfortable I'm now also looking at the React as a possible new training/tempo option.. Hope that helps a little.. But Yes you get into a Lighter more responsive shoe to increase the pace, stride length and spm..
  17. See attached, might help Mile Km Pacing.xlsx
  18. see attached, there is a sub4 as well ASICS_TRAININGPLANS_Sub 3.00.pdf ASICS_TRAININGPLANS_Sub%203.30.pdf
  19. Actually I'm just looking at it right now, also to start 2nd July for 16 weeks to Amsterdam. Trying to pace adjust it to my actual Goal Time. I've done the sub3 program 3x and I've had good results every time.
  20. Cant agree more The only Silly part that makes it look worse and "preplanned" is Charmaine ran in Reegan's Number AND timing chip as far as I can gather... She (Charmaine) was not going to get her own "finish" anyway so why wear any chip?... Just go without and this would never have been picked up at all.. You still get your medal without a chip, just not a result and official finish in future records..
  21. 100% I feel for you Reegan, but Charmaine's " shift the blame" tactics have just made it worse. And she continues to hold the " we are nobodies so leave us alone" attitude.. Just say you (Charmaine not you) cocked up and you are sorry and it will all go away.
  22. Not great timing but still 10 days so you will be ok... If you HAVE to take antibiotic ask for Zithromax… its a sports 3 days course and doesn't affect the Tendons/Muscles etc. like some antibiotics can... and its only 3 days so you still have a week spare..
  23. He was actually my bike mechanic for Cape Epic in 2014 when they were still Bike basement .. I think you are referring to Thabo (Vusi is the bigger guy behind the counter normally - I stand to be corrected though)… Super nice guy and very talented runner...
  24. You do pretty much 960m of the 1200m Total by the 55km mark at the Top of Heartbreak hill in Hillcrest. Hold your nerve and legs until there and you can run a big negative split
  25. I went to Amsterdam for 2 nights after London Marathon last year... Its not the worst muscle relaxant in the world...
