  1. PRs can be pulled through from Training runs or races Did you maybe stop your watch at all during the run? Stop for water.. or to cross a busy road etc? If It was one consistent recorded run and hit the full 10.0kms in one start/stop then it should record as a PR.
  2. Fair enough, I just saw he would run 2h02 in "any pair of shoes" And I still think it must be so tough for other sponsored athletes who have to wear Adidas sub2s or any other racer.. you start the race at a disadvantage... Suppose that's why the Adidas sponsored guy at Dubai Marathon (finished 2nd) painted Vaporflys black to try and get away with it.. Strangely enough now I'm trying to find a link most have disappeared off youtube…
  3. No Chance , Kipchoge wouldn't go sub 2h08 in a pair of Asics Nimbus or Cumulus.... Id probably even bet my house he wouldn't go sub2h10. You have no idea how much difference a pair of racing shoes make at that speed. And Vaporfly 4% are another step ahead of that. And now we have the next%... Records don't always fall by better athletes but more often better equipment. Don't get me wrong, Kipchoge is still the GOAT...
  4. Yeah for Marathon Training I think its a superb program with a good mix of Speed and Distance. I've used it 4 years in a row for PB marathons. See Conversion table I made for pace/distance from Miles to KM. Accurate to a couple secs per km for easy reading. Mile Km Pacing.xlsx
  5. Thanks for the Pics Andrew, very Cool And to end the debate - Versus Popcorn socks - No better socks for an ultra than Versus... Just back to Jhb this morning, will do a little race report in the next day or 2..
  6. Haha Maybe that's it Hitting Lesotho Ultra 50km again this year.. finished 10th there in 2017.. Maybe that will be the turning point Just a small issue of 87kms on 9 June to deal with first.. And BTW Sandes didn't stop for Photos and have a Social day out... I passed him on Ou Kaapse and he was pretty close behind me the rest of the way.. And looked pretty done at the end like the rest of us... He is a goat in the mountains and a Legend on the trails but not going to win Comrades anytime soon...
  7. Sub4 Silver is definitely the Primary Goal, pace plan is built on a 2h52 at the Marathon mark and see how we go from there.. Good day as close to 3h50 as possible. We shall see. Last year I went 2h58 marathon then exploded on Constantia and Ran 4h05 but am definitely in much better shape now.
  8. So far so good... Just over 1530kms YTD as of yesterday - should be on about 1620km post Oceans... Oceans was my A Race though so have done a pretty Big 4 week Block in March. Will then take a week off and then a last 3-4 weeks block before taper time.. Estimate about 2250kms by the big C.
  9. Yup those 3 brothers spent the last 3 months in Dullstroom doing altitude training... the oldest brother who finished 3rd is a proper character
  10. From Someone who Only Ran in Asics all my Youth and then purely Adidas Boston's for my first 5 Comrades years this is my Current stable of shoes... Ill Add I hated Nike and said I would never run in them, but you cant turn a blind eye to their R&D over the last 3 years, they are Streaks(excuse the pun) ahead of the game again right now... IMHO Long Slow Runs /recovery Runs - Nike React Flyknit Long Faster Runs/ Tempo sessions/ Tired lazy Legs - Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit Hill Session/Track Sessions/ Tempo TTs - Nike Streak 6 Racing - From 5km to "probably" Comrades - Nike Vaporfly 4%
  11. No need for any intimidation, we run no faster than 4.50s, usually at 5s or slower. Just time on the legs, some solid hill training and a good chat. Pull In.. it makes for a solid Mid week session.
  12. Thanks Lexx, as everyone has said above Deloitte is actually a super race on a scenic challenging course. Plenty Climbs but also plenty downhills to recover in between. One of my favourite races in Gauteng. I "led, paced" a sub3 Bus for a few guys from our Club to get their A seedings.. We started with 7 of us and attracted a bigger group of closer to 15 during the first lap all on the same mission. Unfortunately, even though we only ran 88.42 first lap it exploded the 2nd lap leaving only 3 of us to finish in 2h56, and that was with a fast finish when I knew that the 3 that were left were strong enough for a faster last 4kms. Was pretty hot out there the last hour... felt very sorry for the guys out there for 5-6hrs. Well done to everyone else, and to Barry and Jess for PMB. Barry, I believe you are going to join our Wednesday morning group soon. Fun day out, just another tick on the road to Oceans and Comrades..
  13. 3500km on VF? I find that very hard to believe.. I've just gone over 500km on my first pair (incl Comrades/Oceans Ultra and 2 Marathons) and they are very near their shelf life, most of the bounce and foam is pretty flat, and I weigh under 65kgs.. they were the Original VF The New Flyknit Version VF are an even better shoe but cant see me getting much more on those either, I'm on about 80kms now.. I have mates who ran a Single Marathon, Kaapsehoop in their brand new VFs out the box and they were smashed after only 42kms of downhill. I am past 600km on a few pairs of the Epic Reacts and they will probably get closer to 800kms if I need them too. My Zoom Flys arrive tomorrow. The VF are without doubt the best "racing" Shoe ever made... IMHO
  14. WTF , I have almost 1000 Reward points and haven't come near a Diamond yet
  15. Haha, yah I saw I got chicked 11 times... beat the Dutch champ though... she ran 2h42 Half PB is 76.18 but was back in March 2016.. actually hadn't run sub80 for nearly 2 years so hitting halfway at 79.07 was a little scary. Sub75 is the next goal before Oceans next year. But just so easy to run in Europe.. heart rate average was only 158... legs went before cardiovascular did.
  16. [ Odison.. How did it go? . I'll let Ferret report back on his outstanding run Odison.. How did it go? Well Done again Stretch, Sorry we only had a brief Chat, things were pretty chaos with runners not being able to get back in the stadium after we finished. Short Race Report - Plan was to run 3.50s for as long as possible and look for a 2h42-2h44 to qualify to berlin next year (sub2h45 good for age entries), my PB was from 2016 Cape Town 2h41.57. But thought that was a bit out of reach. Went through 5 in 18.54, bit fast but felt super, was in a Big bunch of close to 30 European Club runners and the First 2 Dutch ladies in their national champs... Decided I was pretty comfortable and Id just sit in tight.. hit 10 in 37.30, couldn't believe how strong I felt so stayed in the bunch... hit 21kms in 79.07 still with the massive bunch but now a lot of jostling and elbows started flying... Decided I felt good so went off the front with only 1 other guy... did my fastest 10km split of 36.50 between 20 and 30kms... still felt super until 37kms when my legs started to fade... hung on gamely the last 5kms, was tough being alone into a slight uphill drag into the wind. Finished 2h38.29 in 105th Position, 6th M40 plus... super stoked.. Entered Berlin 2019 while sitting at the airport waiting to come home yesterday.. Let the 11months to sub2h35 begin... Cant recommend Amsterdam marathon more...
  17. Exactly the same as when the Bill Rowan was introduced, less Silvers more BR's Easier to settle than bleed through your eyeballs chasing slightly out of reach targets..
  18. Since its introduction ten years ago, 98 men have earned a Wally Hayward and 99 women have earned a silver. Going back 20 years that figure changes to 214 Haywards and 195 women silvers. I'm a Big Stats person Myself so Thanks for this, very interesting I don't necessarily think its unfair where the time Bracket lies, and your stats prove that it is "Equality" as it will get. I'm obviously No women but I do know I worked bloody hard for my Silver medal for years, and I know some of them would still rather have the Purist Comrades silver medal... 2nd hardest Silver in the country behind Two Oceans Ultra..
  19. Still Agree with you Stretch My Training group has 4 of the "Semi Pro/Elite" call it what you like ladies in it. One Got silver this year, 2 missed by less than 20mins...ie sub7h50, 1 was injured. All 5 think this new Medal is a Joke (calling it literally a "Booby prize" LOL to ignore the pun) and they would prefer the Traditional Silver they have been eying out and working for, for the last 3 to 5 years. To be fair in the name of Equality maybe it should be position 11-15 in Both genders based on that their times are sub6 and sub7h30 respectively. Silver has always been proper goal for Comrades runners, to take that away for ladies is not fair. IMHO
  20. I would imagine they would also pull these all in by 10mins
  21. Absolutely, I had mine from London but most of my group has bought your Anatomic Black or green options..
  22. Good Point... sure there will be a few arguments over this once the entry window opens and you have to submit a qualifier.
  23. Cant Agree more Stretch , I'm with you on all Points above. In Essence this means no Women will ever get another Silver Medal again... the Wally should have been 11th - 7hrs and leave them with a silver Gap. Are they going to change it to a Ladies silver at 8 or 8h30 next year? In their Grave attempt to not look sexist I think they may have gone too far. Also when the BR was introduced all it did was slow the average field down as the 8hr guys no longer had that incentive to train extra hard to get to 7h30... The 9 to 10hr medal will do that again for the Borderline Bill Rowan athletes.
