  1. Agreed , I think Kipchoge is the only man capable of these times at present. I say he takes a minute off the current record and goes sub2h02 but cant see him going anywhere near 2 flat... I hope I'm wrong as I think like the 4min barrier its very mental and as soon as someone goes close 2h01/2h02 will become the norms on the fast Big City marathons..
  2. IMHO....I'm not so sure about that This Course is a full 42.2kms, its circular... Its not down hill in elevation (so fully legal) and its outdoor so even though wind controlled you are still taking on some elements The main reason its not going to be ratified is the pace makers coming in and out.. Why is this "much" different to Paula Radcliffe's 2h15 ladies record... she was able to be paced by stronger Men the entire way... The only problem here is there are no men strong enough to hold this pace for the required distance to help the top 3 enough. In my opinion this is a lot more LEGIT then people who have their marathon PBs or qualifiers over downhill races like Kaapsehoop Marathon etc... I know a lot of guys that would do a 5km downhill run and honestly think its ok calling it a PB.. As for the Shoe debate over whether those are legit... I don't have enough expertise to comment
  3. Thanks We Got it from the Tour Organizers we booked through, but it has a SA clothing company details on the Label and I had looked at their site at one point and it is stock clothing.. for the life of me cant think of it now.. Will have a look tonight and let you know
  4. I've done Colgate before all 4 of my Comrades.. its a nice flat route as a Last long run 4 weeks out.. Yes, its Bloooody freezing out there every year.. but start slow in the cold and plan to run nothing faster than your Comrades race pace and you will be fine.. The 32km is filled with tapering Comrades runners so is very festive, with good waterpoints and a nice goody bag.. Not all doom and gloom in my opinion..
  5. Yeah does come in as my Slowest but No Doubt my Most enjoyable.. I was beaten down the home straight by a Guy in a Beer Can suit and a Guy dressed as a Carrot.... cant win them all,
  6. They do have a Ballot system for Local and International runners but last year they had something like 290 thousand entries in the ballot to fill only 20 000 entries after the charity entries etc, so if you get one through that you are very very lucky... I know a friend who has been in the local ballot every year for the last 13 years unsuccessfully. I run for RAC (Rand athletic Club) and the Club Secretary runs her own business that gets a guaranteed 50 entries every year for most of the Big international marathons. She sells them on as Full tours with Flights, accom, entries, busses to expo, starts etc etc.. Very organized and I cant recommend her enough. Bruce Fordyce was part of our tour group this year too. Send me a Pm and Ill send all her details if you are interested.
  7. Just got back from Europe last night... so a little race report.. LONDON MARTAHON 2017 Almost exactly 6 months after a broken femur and against better judgment ... I headed to London on the 20th April with the family, still undecided whether id run or not. I hadn't really run at all for 6 weeks (after the plates came out) and done less than 150kms for the year so far, but I had done a Little 20km jog with the wife the Sunday before to see if I could jog round with no real pain or discomfort. Id also been riding the bike for a few weeks so knew my fitness/strength was ok/ and from memory wasn't too afraid of 42kms.. I finally decided the day before it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'd jog with the wife.. the worst that could happen is I'd have to catch a tube home at some point if my leg really wasn't happy. What a race... Vibe is absolutely insane, people 10 deep both sides for 41.7kms.. (one bridge you go under that gives you peace for about 500m @ 25kms) As the wife hadn't done much training either we decided to Jog the first 10kms then do a Run/Walk/Photo's/Beer stops for the next 32kms.. for a 5/ 5.5hr finish But the crowds are so large we just got pushed along from our seeded start with the flow and before we knew it we were at halfway just under 2hrs.. crowds are so big and soo close you just cant walk with all the support. After 30kms we had a Long stop with some family spectating on the route, then took more of a chill (and a lot of photos and videos) and I finally got a Pint from a SA Spectator on route at 22miles (35kms)... Budweiser but beggars cant be choosers... I wont lie and say 42kms didn't feel like a Bloody long way , and I had to drag the wife through the last 7kms But what a Party of a race... We finally finished in 4h19 which in the scheme of things was pretty damn ok.. leg held up nicely... calves and Hamstrings buggered... Added a official pic of the finish, hijacked off their site but have ordered our pack of 47 images on disk.. Course is Super fast... may have to go back again in the next few years to chase my illusive sub 2h40 mark.. Ill spend most of this year on the bike to get the leg back up to 100%.... and to get through Epic next march.... and then back to running to chase my UP silver in 2018... Been a long road but there is plenty light at the end of the tunnel...
  8. Not Even this.... I got hit off my MTB by a Double Cab on the 1st October, breaking my distal femur in the process ending me in ICU.. On Coming out I sent the Medical Certificate to Discovery saying I was Unable to walk for 12 weeks and would they put a Hold on My Gym Visit Counter and the Discovery Rewards targets.. The Reply was they would give me 2 free accesses on my Gym tracker for October November and December (6 in total) but they couldn't do anything about my Rewards.. Thus I missed 12 weeks targets at 900 points in a row... More amusingly they never even dropped after 12 weeks at all... on week 17 I was able to do enough exercise to get 900 points and finally hit a target again...
  9. They just feel really clunky. Conversely, my Adidas Boston Boosts actually feel far more comfortable, lighter and responsive. It's just that I don't think I can run 87km in them. I'm considering the Adidas Supernova Boost since it looks like a more cushioned version of the Boston. Being over R1000 less than the Nimbus doesn't hurt either. Good prices at Poobie Naidoo's so I think I'll give them a go. I Ran the Down last year in the Boston Boosts , they were super, no reason you cant run 87kms in them.. For the Up this year I was planning on gong even lighter and wearing the Adios Boosts.
  10. Exactly.... I've given up the Ghost in trying to Rush my way back into Running... So I did the next best thing..... Entered Epic 2018 yesterday. . got an early bird entry Will be my 2nd. Will take a few years off running and hopefully be back to Comrades for my UP silver in 2019...
  11. Awesome News, how do we go about getting these Prizes?
  12. When will you announce prizes/results for Daily winners?
  13. Thanks Hacc Have already done 3 or 4 Road Bike Rides in the cradle, and had my first Ride on my New Mountain Bike last weekend.. I Love Mountain Biking... I cant let one Prat behind a wheel scare me away.. With the new small setback I'm probably looking to admit defeat on Comrades 2017 and do Sani2C instead...
  14. Yeah they used to be from the VA on Saturdays and club on Sundays. Then GB became the CM of RH and they moved to the club on both Saturdays and Sundays,, Now he has gone to B2r but I believe they are still being run from Randburg Harriers Sports Club on both days... I could be mistaken though.
  15. Now that I can place them against the X-rays its freak me out a little Home stretch now though
  16. So Hardware Out last Friday... This is what I had in my Leg for 5 months. (that main bolt is about 50mm x 6mm thick).. Now another 3 weeks Rest to recover from the Op ...
  17. Born2Run have a Saturday Club run from Bright Water Commons on a Saturday morning... or Randburg Harriers also have their Club runs from Randburg Sports Fields Saturday mornings. Both have various distances so sure 20km will be an option.. Both are supported with Waterpoints etc (donation R20 for non members) and both have a good 100+ runners and I think they both start at 6am
  18. You have an easy Sub90 in you.. I ran mine last year in early March in the middle of 2150kms of Comrades training... I firmly believe speed training is still paramount to a fast comrades.. I did track training at least once a week all the way from January until the Tuesday 11 days before Race day. I save my Full Marathon PB attempts to October/November..
  19. I ran 1h16.08 at Vaal 21km last year to finish 8th . Still my 21km PB
  20. Yep, spot on 1h40... Was pretty chuffed with that exactly 5 months after a Broken Femur.. Felt like a bloody long way after not running for a good 4 months at all.. but paced it well and got through pretty comfortably with no pain in the leg.. One more weeks training and then the Plates and screws come out Friday night... hoping that is going to do immediate wonders to the comfort and range of movement when running..
  21. Nah Neither although I do know both well. These are B2R guys
  22. Haha , Sorry Yep, the Biking takes crazy time, and swimming is the devils sport I also did 3 x 70.3s and 2 Ironman races and I said never again, takes over your life completely..
  23. I Suppose Us Runners cant complain At 5min per km you only need to find 8hrs a week to log a 100km week, 10 for 120kms To train properly for an Ironman or an Epic you need to find closer to 18-22hrs a week
  24. That's just Sunday's run, they still doing around 25 on the Saturday to finish up with 160k+ weeks..
  25. Both.. but I would go with the Latter One has just started with a new coach and the mileage is insane... 45km + run every weekend since mid Jan so far and he has already run 3 x Sub3 marathons this year.. No Chance I could cope with that kind of Mileage and pace... I didn't even do 1 sub3h15 marathon in my lead up to silver last year.. 3 marathons and 1 ultra all at Training pace.. Sep-Nov are the Months to RACE a Marathon... again in my opinion.
