  1. Cup cooked spinach, 1/2 pack chopped bacon (or more), 1/2 pack sliced mushrooms, cup of cream, cup of crumbled feta (2 roundels work for me). 4 eggs. Fry bacon and shrooms together (mushrooms less carbs than onion but u can use onion) in oil/butter. Mix all ingredients except eggs in an oven proof dish. Beat eggs (naughty eggs) with some fresh parsley and pour on top of mix in dish. Sprinkle some grated cheese on top and bung in preheated 180 deg oven for 45 mins. Bit like a quiche or a mixed up omelet.
  2. Was the LC cheesecake on the Fred that we lost? Anyone have the link please?
  3. Yip my LBS of choice - all have their bad days but I love the personal touch from Deon and Henry and the guys.
  4. All i care about is I haven't wanted too/ havent had the guts to get on my bike since Sani.... :'( We were seeded in the last batch on day one and had the ST to ourselves. Day 2 we made up a batch but also had no major issues, one lady almost stopped in front of me on a steepish descent thru the forest when she came across some rocks but for the rest we mostly flowed, yes we had to temper our speed in places but I think we are competent ST riders and I don't feel we held any1 up either - I certainly don't recall the smell of brakes ( tho I was warned about it). Day 3 made up 2 batches on day 2 and lead a group of 6 or so riders thru the ST next to the river -no one wanted to pass - even tho we gave them the option. So I dunno maybe we just got lucky.
  5. I agree - not enough winter gear available in hi viz colors. What about a waistcoat type over jacket/ reflective strappy thing/ bib that one can wear over normal gear as an extra - serves no purpose other than to make u more visible?
  6. I got up just before 5 to make a 5h30 spin class.... But wait before u all go whateva please note: a. It is practically snowing in CT at the moment and I got woken up by the biggest thunderstorm I have ever experienced in CT in the middle of the night ( i dont do thunderstorms - some traumatic experience as a laaitjie) And b. I actually have a day off today - so I could've slept in with my warm kitty cat, but no, I forced myself out from under the warm duvet for an hours sufferfest. So I am justifiably proud of myself
  7. Very nice! I've pinched it but won't take the credit don't worry. Supposed to be going to gym and I need it cos I've eaten loads of birthday cake this weekend but its very warm under my duvet ... And hailing outside
  8. Ai glad I'm not the only one - been on bike once - and that was hardly a ride. Planning to get back into eat this week. Got some time off work hopefully that will help - the weather must just play along now!
  9. Ahhh good to hear - so much more practical then! Bloody red mud stains
  10. Such a pity about the colour!
  11. Interestingly enough there was a big fight on a local clubs FB page around trail maintenance with one of the arguments being around braking ruts. Now chatting to a friend this morning the main areas where the worst damage is are not where the beginners ride so makes one think doesn't it.
  12. Sorry was too misty to really note the make and was to busy watching him while he swerved around that he didn't fall and me go over him!
  13. Well actually Dale I didn't specify the bikes - I alluded to but this is a general to all cyclists, both riders types are guilty - they were on the tar ergo they were road cyclists this morning. Last time I was out early on my bicycle I nearly took out a mtber on the tar with no front light.
  14. On the very Misty St Johns road.... Me thinks - no wait, I know you need a new tail light.... See I thought something was missing! Admittedly your shirt had some white in it( read 2 small non reflective patches) and your buddy was dressed all in black with a maroon jacket but lucky for you I spotted his tail light on the LHS of the road a good 200m before I saw YOU. I guess cycling in the middle of the lane is good for self preservation, but what is even better is letting your buddy with the working light ride there cos the cars could actually see him before they were on top of him. Not stopping at the red robot when visibility was limited, well personal choice and all... Descending down the tree lined avenue, with you in the middle of the road, gesticulating widely while the bike swerved all over the road was great, gave me chance to slow down and wipe the sleep out of my eyes while wondering what tale you were regaling to your friend... How big was that fish again?.... Thanks for pulling over to let me pass, that extra 10 mins I took to do my make up before I left home was gonna cost me on my commute - next time I might have to do it in the car! Hope you enjoyed the rest of the ride and that the other cars were as considerate and wake up as I was considering the hour. Ag and I know light colors are soooo not winter but toe maar guys. Lets start a new fashion trend shall we? Just putting it out there... Please pass the salt now
  15. My plan for this weekend with roasted garlic and cheese soup. Gonna be a cold wet cape.
  16. Will repost my bread links: http://fashionablefit.metromode.se/2011/09/30/low-carb-high-fat-bread-lchf-bread/ Remember I used creamed cottage cheese in place of the Quark And the recipe for LSA: http://www.craig.copperleife.com/health/lsa.htm Hope the Htone recipe for the Oopsies is still on the cached pages..... Here some inspiration: gone LCHF cold turkey this week after Sani and today starting out with a food fast - will try and make it to lunch so u lot all enjoy your bacon and eggs and creamy coffee K
  17. Me! In Majik Forest. On the ST near the beacon at around 6am. She attached herself to my helmet. My friend behind me had a good laugh. Oh for a Gopro that day.
  18. Thanks for pointing me there Icycling. Felt a bit strange writing a whole long essay on the topic above when the thread was seemingly one about finance but I'm good at following instructions
  19. Ok I'm not a ppa member but I don't take part in that many events so was not entirely sure how being a member would benefit me. I have now come to realize that the ppa appears to be the only body that seems to look out for the needs of the SA cyclist. That said in my humble opinion more should be done. Firstly to educate cyclists that the ppa is not just about organizing and supporting cycling events. But also drives to educate motorists about cyclist awareness. But in a friendly no confrontational way - think campaigns on chappies and in the cradle. Heard Steve Haywood on the radio the other day saying motorists should report errant cyclist by taking photos and sending them to ppa - how can they if they are not even aware of its existence. To me they don't have a public presence other than at cycle events and when there is a tragedy on our roads. They should be the " go to" for ppl like Ctmtber who has had an ongoing struggle for recognition of misdemeanors by golden arrow (with photographic evidence) when his direct attempt to gain attention from the premier and mayor etc has gone unattended. And has anyone ever noticed that the SA post office employees cycle around with No helmets and no reflective gear - surely ppa should be putting pressure on this institution. I will become a member if I am correct in my assumptions that this is what PPA should be doing but from outward appearances to me the PPA is like a dog with no teeth. And every person who has been moaning about how bad things are on the road etc should get behind the PPA and help it in the right direction and support it if/ when does campaigns.
  20. Sorry resurrecting this... Just FYI not one of the postmen, that work for the South African post office, that work in my area wear either a helmet or a reflective vest of sorts while they are out on the road... Now why this is I am not sure BUT surely this is what PPA is mandated to address?
  21. Nice one - will confess to pinching it and posting it where my non cycling friends can see it as I believe education has to be given to motorists that cyclists are entitled to use the road
  22. In light of several recent tragic events (another cyclist knocked down in Jnb this morning according to Cape Talk) this occurred to me: PPA has a seemingly strong presence at most CYCLE events but these are CYCLE events attended by CYCLISTs. How about targeting motorists? We know where cycling hotspots are why not set up awareness campaigns on a Saturday morning... I can't be the only one to think of this surely. To find ppl to help man these things shouldn't be hard judging by the amount of outrage on the site at the moment. And at the same time one can also target the rogue cyclist who does not obey the road etiquette rules. Chapmans Peak, the Cradle there are more I'm sure. If we can engage with motorists on a more one on one maybe we can change perceptions and encourage that little bit more tolerance..... My 2c.... RIP...
