  1. Cobra and cobra down & up. A trail that you have to know what you're doing in order to have a good time on. Very easy to get bogged down
  2. It's a lifestyle device that a lot of people want. How they want to offer to finance it is up to them, and tbh it's a great finance option. If you want it. If the whole VAR thing fell away I'd continue to pay as it's a device that my wife uses on a daily basis. It also seems that it's a software issue and as soon as it hits a certain level in certain exercises it only reads one of every 2 beats. That's what seems the issue from various apple forums.
  3. anyway. Home all day tomorrow so I'll pick this up then. Just about to give myself a double dose of benylin, vicks and some other nasty stuff to numb the stuffiness. Wish i could just...
  4. fecking libtards and their social justice warrior offspring. Oh, I'm human - my opinion is worth something! No, it's not. Feck off, you delicate wallflower.
  5. likewise, and thanks. Feeling is mutual. Oh. Doped up on flu meds and feel as if a rhino is sitting on my head... as you were - I should probably be asleep, but fomo
  6. if all opinions were based on sound principles, the world would be a better place. sadly, in today's world of endless information it seems to be a dying breed. Vaccine denialists, Climate change deniers, homeopathy and "complementary medicine" and so on. Fact of the matter is that on that one post of Carpet's, her opinion was not defensible as it wasn't based on fact. As soon as it is based on fact, it becomes defensible, and I will debate it. If not, I'll dismiss it out of hand and treat it like it should be treated.
  7. No, BH. An opinion is only valid if it is based on sound principles. Carpet's assertions were based on incorrect data. Therefore invalid.
  8. Barhugger. Repeat after me. Think about it. You (collective here) buy the item from Apple. They are the ones who sell it. You FINANCE it through your Discovery Credit card, for which you apply online. Tick a couple boxes, agree to pay the R 350 activation fee, and BAM - that's it - financed. Subject to reading those pesky terms and conditions, which you probably didn't read in the first place 'cos OMG APPLE WATCH!!! As far as Apple are concerned (the store itself) they couldn't give a rats arse where the money comes from - they get it upon sale of the item. Therefore, the purchase was with them. The FINANCE arrangement was the 24 month no interest credit arrangement with Discovery. Discovery Credit Card division. VITALITY Active Rewards will supplement that finance arrangement you signed up to, subject to the meeting of certain goals, which are tailored to YOU. Is it now clear?
  9. yeah, my garmin used to do the same before a firmware update, and my phone still does the same. Seems like an accelorometer fault or something like that. Although with the Fenix watch it was steps only
  10. Was chilled. And laying it out as it is... I know you didn't buy the watch. I know you have a Polar unit. But that last post of yours was just flat out incorrect. As such, I had to correct it. Seems a lot is being said without knowing what the actual facts of the matter are. That makes me angry, because it means people aren't using their noggins. It's just bandwagoning. BTW - "you" was used in its non-personal format. IE group of people. Not you specifically. You (really, you, now) did the same in your post.
  11. You bought the watch from Apple. You just financed it through your discovery card. Do you complain to FNB when your fridge goes on the blink?
  12. okay, I don't gt the issue here. The problem here is with the apple watch not recording properly. Something only Apple can sort out. What they're telling the person there is entirely true. What is so shocking about that? I say it again - Disco are not able to sort out technical issues with the watch. That would be up to Apple.
  13. not trying to screw you over - just wanting to get it to the point that it's a challenge... I will admit that for me, that would be about 3,000 points or so given that I rev high. But ito time, 1,500 is probably more challenging at the moment. Not able to ride for 2h30 every weekend.
  14. Nope, I know Carpet has a polar. It was a question, based on a previous post by Carpet, highlighted in bold. Only thing you're paying by not getting rewards is the watch or smoothies. Or gym membership, which you're getting a 75% discount on anyway. Carpet, on 23 May 2016 - 3:51 PM, said: Or you can see it that the people are doing exactly what the disco system are designed to do. Training in the zones and times recommened by disco. And if you dont your doomed by paying without getting rewards and if you do your also doomded for overtraining and being stupid.
  15. How is utilising common sense being biased? As for the last bit... Yeah, that's totally true. Comes down to either brokers not explaining what a client is covered for, or a client having unrealistic expectations based on a misunderstanding and / or ignorance of the product.
  16. Tell me - how are you "doomed" by paying for a watch that you bought, over 2 years, at 0% interest?
  17. Nah, I just think a lot of people haven't taken a step back and thought it through properly. On other matters - Carpet - any chance you could just do your warmup and THEN start the watch? Even if you hit 70 / 75% - you'd still be getting points and still be exercising properly.
  18. I actually could, if I wanted to. That's how I learn about things I'm interested in... like carbon layup, engine performance characteristics & tweaks, woodworking tricks and tips; the list goes on... But no, I needed to do these pesky things called RE exams, and do something called RPL and get some credits for continual learning (cpd points, I think they are) and I'm currently redoing my entire qualification 'cos Unisa are to arse-faced to release my credit certificate so I can do the next step in my qualifications and get some pesky letters next to my name. But that won't do me any good, because I used to train brokers who had those pesky letters beside their names. All from getting taught myself, by people more experienced than I. And googling stuff I didn't know. And actually asking questions instead of assuming things. But no, I'm "just" a broker.
  19. firstly - thanks for being so patronising. Really does help the conversation. You've been doing it more and more lately - what's up with that? No, I do not have an interest in protecting their integrity - I am an independent advisor, dealing with all the major companies. I just favour logic and reason over pitchforking and SJW tactics. The majority of my income comes from my investment book, and whilst the majority of my Life insurance clients are on Discovery, only about 2 or 3 have taken up the Watch deal and I'd say that 80-90% of them are on gold / diamond status And you're 100% correct in that Discovery's bottom line benefits from people being more active and aware of their health. That means less claims, lower lapse ratios, more information on how to structure their med aid products to benefit the client from a cost / benefit perspective (remember - med aids are a non profit by legislation - any profits they make go straight to the members' reserves, to be used for claims. The profitable part of a med aid isn't the med aid - it's the administration of a med aid, which Discovery Medical Aid Administrators takes care of - and charges Disco and any other med aids that they administer) The fact of the matter is this - the Apple watch costs & smoothie vouchers are PALTRY compared to the cost savings that come from lower claims, lower lapse ratios and higher integration into their system. Add that to the fact that the large percentage of Vitality members aren't even using the benefits as advertised, thereby cross subsidising those who do...
  20. because a lot of people want it (evidently) and the data that Disco wanted. Not to mention that Apple want the data as well.
