  1. Discovery, who funds it through the Vitality premiums, med aid savings and higher client retention figures they get as a result of the "hook" that they provide. Not to mention the data sharing agreement with Apple themselves, which means that they're probably getting a significant discount on the actual cost of the devices themselves. You buy watch, Disco pays apple, disco gets rebate / cost sharing agreement from apple. If you're saying that they're trying to make it more difficult cos they can't afford the cost of the smoothies, watch payments and and and - they you have NO idea as to the level of cost savings that increased physical activity and more health awareness have on their bottom line. It dwarfs a paltry 2 smoothies, gym membership discount and watch payment/
  2. max points are soft capped at 1200 per week, which is the highest it'll go. If they change that ruling, I'll be very disappointed. I still think they should put a better scale in place though. Recognise that for longer efforts, your HR should be lower than for shorter ones.
  3. IT IS AN APPLE DEVICE. Where was it picked up from? That's right - an iStore. It's a LIFESTYLE device that can read HR. If there's a recall, guess who will honour the warranty? YES - that's right, fkng APPLE. Discovery didn't market the device - Apple did. All discovery did was offer another way to finance a watch which could help you to reach your goals, and say it "could" be covered if you reach the goals as set out and editable by Disco Discovery is the avenue through which it is financed. Nothing more. I really don't see what is so difficult to understand, here. You bought it on your Disco card. Apple already have the cash. As far as they're concerned you're another iwatch owner. How much you pay on a monthly basis is determined by how often you reach your goals. YOU decided to buy it. YOU should have read the terms and conditions. YOU should have ensured that if you weren't able to hit the goals, you were comfortable with a payment of X per month. Do you all of a sudden not want the device now that the goals are more difficult? Oh. You're still using it, are you? You're still wearing it on a daily basis, and pairing it with your phone... Guess what: It was ALWAYS going to get more difficult. Nobody said it would stay the same.
  4. Is your strap tight enough? And yes - I am, and on most weeks more. My 45 min after work sessions on the bike (when I remember the watch / HR strap / whatever) get me minimum 300 points - except last friday when I forgot my HR belt and got 100 points. Yesterday's chilled ride with a mate who is getting back into MTB would have gotten me another 300 points, if I took my garmin along with me. Then there's the other times I ride over the weekend - min 90 minutes, which is 600 points. If it comes down to the device, you'll need to speak to apple as it may be a hardware issue
  5. why do you continually come back to the assumption that Disco are worried about paying for the watch, and that's why they increased the figures? They were LAUGHABLY simple to get in the first iteration, and they remain far easier to get to when compared to last year's points allocations. I agree that in SOME cases the 80% mark may be unachievable, but if you tell me that people can't hit 70% for 30 minutes and also be a pro athlete... I also agree that the targets should be better tiered in order to allow for longer efforts at lower HR's. BUT - that does not discount how easy it is to get 1,200 points at the moment.
  6. yeah, because if you hit them they're probably too easy, or they want to push you harder - so they increase them. No trickery - it's been like that since the beginning. But in the case above, those who hit it by just exercising once will still have their points requirement increase each week. Yes, I haven't increased on my side, but that's my fault. If I hadn't missed 2 weeks worth of goals, then I'd still be up at 700 like you are.
  7. The thing is that the system at the moment cannot look into the individual exercises and dissect how long they were at a given HR value for. So even if your HR was above 80% of 30 minutes, they cannot get the data. Add to that the people they are targeting ARE fat and unfit, and you start seeing where they're going. As for the "fit people not being able to hit 80% for 2 to 3 hours" thing - BS. SOME fit people won't be able to hit that, in very specific areas. But you bet your bottom dollar that if they wanted to, they sure could. Even if just for 30 min. Otherwise how would they get better? Does Froome train at sub 70% all the time? Most definitely not. Can he get his HR above 80%? Absolutely.
  8. Thing is this, BH. It is NOT being sold by Discovery. Not at all. It's an Apple device, sold by Apple. DV is SUBSIDISING it, if people decide they want one, based on their activity. It is not Discovery's fault that the T's and C's aren't being read, or that people think "OOOOH! FREE WATCH!" Essentially, it's like this. If you want a watch, enter into a 2 year 0% interest arrangement (which is the basis for the agreement) Discovery offers you the POTENTIAL to pay nothing, IF you meet al their goals. Whose fault is it?
  9. This, I agree with, though as we see above if it is motivated you can opt out for a time period if you need to. Exercising at the expense of aggravating an injury, though, JUST to get the goals, is a bit silly. You're not "losing" anything. You're still getting all the discounts, just not the additional discounts or active rewards based ones. If you have the watch, though, you may have a case. Though in my opinion you (not necessarily you) should have thought of that before assuming that you'd always hit the goals even if you were injured. IE: Always assume that you may at some point need to pay one months' worth of contributions due to sickness and / or injury
  10. Adjustment of Vitality Active Rewards goals It is important to note that the Vitality Active Rewards goals are dynamic: they adjust upwards and downwards based on the members activity and goal completion to either gradually encourage them to the next level or to keep them motivated and engaged at the current level or a lower level should that be more appropriate for their level of fitness engagement. To ensure a smooth transition for those already on Vitality Active Rewards when the changes come into effect in April 2016, we will be adjusting goals downward for certain members to give them time to adapt their training plans to the new points changes should they so choose.
  11. it does say that, somewhere. Points target increases will be based on your individual activity history. Step 2 in the VAR info sheet Step 2: Get active Vitality will set a weekly, personalised fitness goal for you, based on your current health status and activity levels. Your weekly goal is set based on your goal achievement over the previous few weeks. Occasionally we do not include the most recent week in your new goal calculation if we haven’t received all your fitness data by the time we set the new goal.  To achieve your weekly goal, you need to earn a certain number of Vitality points through any of Vitality’s fitness partners or by using a wearable fitness device linked to your Vitality profile.  As you continue to achieve your goals, your goal will increase with you. This is to ensure that you continue to become fitter over the weeks. However please note that each person will reach a cap of points and that your goal will not continue to increase indefinitely. Your goal cap is determined by your goal achievement, fitness, and health.  We calculate goals weekly based on past goal achievement. You’ll be able to track your progress as you work on reaching a goal.  Goal cycles run from midnight on a Friday until midnight the next Friday. Only events completed in that period count towards the weekly goal.  You need to complete fitness activities between the Friday your goal cycle starts and midnight the next Friday. We allow until midnight on the Tuesday following your goal week for your exercise data to reflect. Your Vitality points may not reflect right away, but as long as you have captured your points – synced your device or captured any Outdoor Sporting Events – within your goal week and we receive the data before the following Tuesday midnight, your activities will count towards your goal.  We issue rewards on the Wednesday following your goal week and will be available by the end of the day.
  12. LOL. I'm just about to head home and do the same. Meh. Flu.
  13. I'd say none. 30 minutes @ 80% 4 times a week is hardly overtraining. Those who train more than that already (except for certain individuals) are already getting more than the required max in one session (me included) 2 rides per week and I hit it. I've only not hit it due to my own laziness and an error in calculation caused me to stop recording 2 minutes before I should have.
  14. Me. Headache from hell, tired and bone sore. In the office to do a couple of admin things, then off home to sleep.
  15. yeah, Rossi seemed to be sizing him up into that first corner all the time. Brembo data was showing Rossi as the top dog as far as late brakers go, so I reckon it was part of his "pressure him till he cracks or make him think I can't take him on the first corner" tactic. Really, really bummed that Rossi's engine gave up. Makes 2 DNF's and now 47 points behind Jorge, which is a huge gap by anyone's reckoning. I think that this was Lorenzo's best race to date. Must hav been working on that side of things from a mental standpoint, as it seemed as if despite MM harrying him all the time, he just carried on racing his race, taking his lines and just being SUPER smooth. Could also see after the race how hard he worked - his body language as he stopped on the circuit spoke volumes. Really disappointed with the result, but that's what happens when Rossi goes out like that. Reckon he would have taken it in the end had the motor not ended like that. Very good race though.
  16. What a race! 10 laps of absolutely stunning riding.
  17. And 7 HUNDREDTHS of a second separating the top 5!?
  18. Got in from my rode just a tad late, but managed to tune in to get his post race interview. Sounds like it was a blinder of a last lap!
  19. Difference being that Vale says "yues, I copy him"
