  1. in a word - yes. you can move your stuff across. I wouldn't say that a bike is "better" with 2x10 than 3x10, unless you're looking at a trail bike or DH bike where having extra chainrings causes clearance issues when negotiating obstacles etc. And you're pretty close in your 2nd sentence. 2x10 is a lighter option, giving you approximately the same spread of gears that you'd have in a 3x10 setup. In 2x10, you lose only the lowest and highest gears, but the ratios are pretty similar. And no, you won't be able to use a 3x10 shifter on a 2x10 setup (on the front, anyway. back is interchangeable, as there are the same amt of gears. keep your stuff dude. no need to change to 2x10
  2. Granny gear and smallest one will be the same. It's just an extra gear shoved into the middle somewhere! I'd keep it 1x9 dude. Just maybe change the cassette if you currently have an 11-34. Slap an 11-36 on there.
  3. I've just done the conversion to 1x9 on my hardtail. All I need is a bash guard and a chain guide. Very easy to do. BTW: why go to 10sp? You won't need a new hub, but u will need a new rd, shifter and cassette.
  4. LOL. Then as you say... Ppl miss things when they're knackered
  5. I'd hardly call that being a knob, lefty. He's just finished a Farking race, and some little blond child screams his name and he's expected to stop? I'd probably do the same, and just carry on walking. Or maybe, just maybe, he didn't even see her? You know, in the zone etc.
  6. ROFL! The rock whisperer. ROFL! You guys did more to lift that rock than I did, dude! Space was cramped and I couldn't get in until it was out! Damn heavy bastid it was though. Would make a killer kicker! Hang on... Kicker after the berm, into the new section. Hmmmm. Idea.....
  7. AMEN! Hallelujah! He speaketh the truth, dear people! Amen!
  8. that was epic... And patches - a very, very long time, I would imagine!
  9. So there were 5 of us on the mountain yesterday (as well as 2 minions) and we took care of the middle section of Snake Eyes. It's really looking good now, far better than what it was just a week ago. The majority of the erosion in the upper & middle sections has been addressed, and a divert has been put into place in order to install a far more sustainable section of trail, in place of what was an increasingly rutted and eroded corner (the biggish berm halfway down, where all the sand congregates) The divert will need to bed in for a while, but it makes the trail far better in terms of both erosion control and fun! Other changes include the first biggish berm, just after the previously un-rideable drop-off. This "berm" used to be a double apex corner, which posed quite a problem as quite a lot of speed was being carried into the corner itself, and the sudden kinks caused confusion and technical challenges. In effect, you would enter the corner, and have to slam on brakes, then turn, slam on brakes and then turn again. This corner is now a proper berm, being a consistent radius throughout its length. It has also been packed with clay in order to provide a firm base on which to ride, and to bond the sand which seems to be so prolific up there. A lot of the sand is being carried away, but there is a LOT of it, and a full clearance will take time. Today's rain should bed the track in quite nicely... Now, there's just the bottom section to complete, which shouldn't take that long. The next day will see the removal of a lot of sand, and the inclusion of a few more features in order to inject a more fun, flowy style of track, as well as to take care of any unwelcome stumps that are in the middle of the trail (meh) Thanks go out to Pain or Shine (resident Overlord) DJR (Owner of Minions) The Crow (there can only be one) MrT1 and, of course, Ramsew for the beer supply...
  10. I wanna be able to modulate the front and have more control. I can do that with my right hand better than my left, even though I'm semi ambidextrous. It's like tryin to brake with my left leg with the front on the left.
  11. Heinrich - Now that I know who you are, that's even more *** (s'true) Hope you and Martin get the bike back. Not cool. We'll definitely keep an eye out!
  12. Ag, nee man Martin! That's NOT COOL! I mean, it wasn't cool when I saw it had been stolen, but now you say it was stolen from your place!? No farking way bro. That's cold. If you find the bastard, I'll be there with my crowbar...
  13. Damn dude. That bike is sweet. Hope you get it back! As Cap says, very small world the dh world. Will stick out like a sore thumb, even with a respray and new parts in place.
  14. Taken mine off both of my bikes (DH & XC) Reason? Lever positioning. the indicators foul with the brake levers. Last night I removed my front derailleur from the XC bike. Converted to a 1x9. Also dremelled my right hand deore shifter so I could place it in the right way. No need for gear position indicators as I can feel where I am, and if i have no more gears, it just simply won't shift... Getting bar ends & a wider bar soon.
  15. Oh my soul. Probably the most beautiful bike in the world.
  16. Easy - 3 bikes: Intense M9 FRO with 'zocchi 888's and Deemax's (Yes, Cap - just like yours) Santa Cruz Tallboy LT (alu version) Cotic BFE with a Revelation u-turn (single speed)
  17. ROFL. No chance of that happening... I've also moved them inboard so I can do single finger braking. Looks strange with bars that are only like 620mm wide...
  18. Just changed my levers around. Seems my brakes reservoirs can be rotated with the release of a little screw, so I moved them around. Now right is front, left is back.
