  1. Ack! Forgot about the lock-on grips & tubeless conversions
  2. Perfectly good. The frame is constant across the Scott range, and wouldn't be crap if it were. Damn, I bought a 5k bike and I've upgraded it. Hasn't broken yet. Damn good platform to go on....
  3. Neither am I... I ride a hardtail that tries VERY hard to be a bigger travel bike, but it'll always be a 100mm XC bike. And yet I don't ride up the Downhill Only trails. It's wrong. I help build and maintain. Because I think it's right. I like to do my bit to keep the trails that I ride, rideable. It's my way of giving back to the place that I ride. And I do it for nothing. For the gratification that I get weh I ride a section that I HAVE BUILT. With MY OWN HANDS. There's my sweat in that trail. And I love it.
  4. XCR is a pretty alright fork, but at that price point you're not going to get a fantastic fork. Neither of them are really open to tuning or replacing of cartridges, and they're both Elastomer Spring forks. My vote is still Scott. My feeling is that the fork is the first thing you'll upgrade.
  5. Pieter, both of those are outside his range of R 5,000 max. A 30% hike in the amount he has to shell out isn't exactly achievable....
  6. just to say it again... And to top it all off, I think your last paragraph sums up your attitude quite neatly. You expect a discount based on your willingness to maintain trails. All the rest of us will GLADLY work the time free of charge. Mahala. For nada. And we will provide the meat & drink for after. Why, You ask? Because we LOVE what we ride. And we want it to STAY. If we have to handle picks, shovels, spades, axes and saws to get it done, so be it. Just don't expect to be welcome at a build/maintenance session with that sort of attitude.
  7. @ Pain or Shine - it's actually 80% if you add up all the cats where they don't ride up the Downhill sections of ST. Yes - I ride down the `downhill` and Single tracks (6 votes [15.00%]) Yes - I ride up and down the Single tracks and ONLY down on the `downhill` (23 votes [57.50%]) No - I have no technical experience (1 votes [2.50%]) No - Its too dangerous to ride up the `downhill` and Single track sections (2 votes [5.00%]) So - in conjunction with Pain or Shine... David16v, what does that 80% tell you?
  8. Igggzackertally! My weirwolfs, riser bars (soon to be) shortened stem, carbon-reinforced gloves and soon to be reincarnated Wellgo flat pedals. Damn. Mine doesn't sound nearly as good.
  9. +1 Okay, now I'm just being a snob. But I have my reasons. Tokai is 5 min away by car (highway) 20 by bike. Groenies - well, it's a helluva lot further. But Tokai is better.
  10. All this is being catered for. We are looking for clay, to repair some of the sections that have been hit heavily by the erosion. Rocks & trees etc are moveable, given enough manpower. If a trail does become unrideable, then there will probably be an application for a new trail to be cut. One will not just be cut because we think it'll be lekker. Yes, erosion is a problem. Yes, there might have to be new trails cut. But we are not there yet (cutting new trails) The existing trails are being maintained. And as for the machinery, I'm sure we can get some in sometime, if the parks approve it (unlikely). And to top it all off, I think your last paragraph sums up your attitude quite neatly. 11. Read again. You missed it. Several times, in fact. Yes, there will be increased volume. But then, guess what? Maintenance will just have to increase. Wow! It's already increasing! Surely... surely... yes! That means that the effect of more people on the trails has and is being realised. Hmmm...
  12. From an elevation point of view - if you ride up to the mast, you'll be ascending 950 m in 11km. 600m of that is in the last 5 or so. From a technical point of view, it caters to all. And I mean ALL. Hell, there's Downhill specific sections, which can be quite gnarly at the best of times. There's rutted sections where a load of muppets have dragged their rears instead of their fronts, thinking that they're 6 again and it's cool. (quoting Brian Lopes - It stopped being cool in 6th grade) There's gap jumps, rocky dropoffs, rooty dropoffs, lekker flowing, not so technical stuff, flowy technical track, loose rock over hardpack, wagon trail and a bucnh of tar near the top. Truly, guy, you won't get bored. Well, you shouldn't. If you do, you're doing something wrong. Come on over!!! It'll be the best R 35 you EVER spend! (unless you had a happy ending in Thailand, that is)
  13. Awesome, iRide... And yeah, sometimes the best solution is not all that obvious to the ignorant (ignorant of trail building lore, that is) And thanks - a lot of Pain went into those changes...
  14. What do you mean "go" crazy? Aren't you already there? Seriously though - I agree here. Keep the ST itself Bi-directional. The DH tracks should be DH only. Let's hope the signage comes along soon...
  15. haha! Please don't, DJR... Even though this thread has multiple arguments and "discussions" going on, there are still relevant points being made if we dig through all the sarcasm, failed wit and general ignorance that prevails in some posts. Mach 7-7, yourself, Pain & a number of others have all raised relevant points, and Mach is right - the longer this debilitating debate goes on, the more we are separating our wonderful sport, and the eden that is Tokai. I, for one, do not want this to happen. I think most of the confusion is being borne out of the lack of differentiation between Downhill Singletrack (being a specific Downhill trail) and the other Singletrack sections. The 2 are not mutually exclusive, the Downhill being uni-directional and all the rest bi-directional. A singletrack section that goes down a hill is not automatically a piece of Downhill singletrack. But, a singletrack section that has been designated as DOWNHILL, is automatically one way only - down. I think that it is very important to note that the previous thread (as Pain or Shine pointed out) was catering to the dangers and legalities of riding up the trails that are designated as DOWNHILL trails. The previous thread was not catering to the rest of the singletrack sections, which are all, until further notice, bi-directional. Mach - I for one would be glad to share a beer with you after a build / ride session. And keep on up with the ideas!
