  1. Let alone the history between Knox and Evans - I find it baffling. Also I'm sure everyone will remember that Max was also very outspoken about the 'laziness' in the SA pro scene. That was surely leveled at, among others, his now new team mates?
  2. Just checked my calendar to see if it's April 1st...
  3. Running Fast Track controls front and back. Nice balance between weight, rolling resistance (never to be underestimated over 700k) and durability. Pedals - XTR's.
  4. Another trick to dry soaked shoes is to stuff them with newspaper and leave it in overnight (obviously in your tent / indoors. You'd be surprised by how much moisture the newspaper soaks up. Cheaper than 2 pairs of shoes...
  5. Had the same thing in 2012. The cool thing after training for Epic, is that for a long while afterwards you can pitch up and ride any event with little or no preparation.
  6. Wifey and I are off at 7:04. Guess we'll be having breakfast after a quick ride :-)
  7. Enjoy. Take your own water :-)
  8. You got the powercal strap? That's obviously the cheapest but I'm not convinced. Ultimately, I'd probably tend towards a SRM crank for my road bike. I pretty much think that it's the gold standard in power measurement. Just wondering if there were any other options? I cant do Sabie as i have a wedding to attend on Saturday. Gonna be pretty low key as I'm looking to do 5hrs in the morning :-) You doing both days at Sabie?
  9. Ok, so I'm coming in at the end here, but can I ask a quite pointed question: What is the best option to go with for measuring power, based on the following requirements: 1. Not HR calc based (I'm not convinced) 2. Must be able to use on my road bike and MTB 3. Must work with Garmin Edge 810 BTW, good thread - makes for a refreshing change...
  10. Yup. I'm doing the ultra though. Wave as you pass me :-)
  11. You doing marathon or ultra, JC?
  12. A word of warning to the organisers - unless you sort things out, YOUR EVENT IS GOING TO DIE!!! What has always set the 24HR apart from other MTB events is that it is a party. For a party you need food, drink, music and good vibes. A good course is nice to have, not a prerequisite. Quite honestly, if you did laps around a parking lot with all the amenities you would have repeat customers. I have missed your 24hr for the first time since 2008, and I will not be back until I hear that things have improved. The excuses and feedback on this forum are exactly the same as last year. Saying 'if you can do better, go for it' is not acceptable. If you are not going to do it properly, then the majority of peopIe - no matter how loyal - are not going to support your event. And that will be a sad thing...
  13. Nice one! Good to see I'm not the only one who brought a shark to a gunfight. Did the marathon on my 160mm +- 14kg nomad. 5:20 of pain. But really enjoyed the steep rocky stuff.
  14. Thanks Hylton - actually you put me onto the bike I bought. Remember us chatting at Cascades? On the bar and stem combo - I'm already at 760mm. Will look out for a Thompson 50mm stem. And your ride is sweet BTW!
  15. Thanks, will check it out. I've got plenty left on the steerer as well and I'm gonna keep tweaking everything until I get it just right. Any specific stem brands you could suggest to have a look at?
  16. So, thanks for all the advice. I eventually got a Deity CZ bar. I think it looks pretty cool! And it feels a hell of a lot better than the flat bar I had on. So now the next question is the choice of a more suitable stem. I still have a 100mm Easton stem on the bike (also scavenged from my XC bike) I would like to go down to a 60mm stem. Any suggestions? Cheers, G.
  17. What a frikkin' day! Spent it with the wife and kids. My 4 y.o. told me to stop screaming. Got a photo with Greg and my 2 boys. What a legend. Really, legend. We'll still be talking about this in 20 years. Soak it up saffers. Today was a good day.
  18. Nah, doing 3 towers with wifey. Budget and leave issues.
  19. Do it JC, you won't regret it. Just watch out for the fkn bees...
  20. Exactly what I've done. I bought the frame fork and wheels and thought that I'd just be patient and build up the bike with parts as I bought them. The next morning my XC bike was bare and my new little pony was ready to ride.
  21. What's you build so far?
  22. I've got ZTR flows - so a pretty good rim IMO.
  23. Your thread was one of the reasons for getting a longer travel bike. My brother-in-law and I are already discussing it. Just haven't said anything yet as people who say yes immediately but then don't pull through are dime a dozen. But ja, a European summer is definitely on the horizon.
  24. Hey i'm still in the room. :-) Exactly. I have a tallboy and a nomad - money is a problem. I spent it all on the frames.
  25. That black-on-black IS hot!
