  1. I got one on my spare wheel. Its ok on hard pack but I found its very twitchy on the loose stuff and on High speed fire roads, oh and dont ride it in the wet. Also bought cause it was cheap.
  2. I was at the Emirates office yesterday to inform them of my baggage and got an endorsed ticket. They said the main issue is the 23kg, the new rule is in place because of the unions. Apparently it's inhumane for ppl to carry baggage over 23kg thus the new rule. They told me that bikes and sporting goods still fall under the old rule of 300cm, no extra charges unless over 23kg and 300cm. I did pre arrange this for my trip just to be safe so they are aware that we will be taking bikes on our trip. So this means that emirates allows me to take my bike bag 300cm/23kg as well as another case of 150cm/23kg as free check in, then also a carry on of 7kg.
  3. Do they actually sit and measure all the baggage with a tape measure? I found a case that's 160cm in total which I am planning on using for my frame.
  4. 6 Weeks to go. Crazy excited about this trip, just a little concerned about luggage issues with Emerates.
  5. Howzit man Yeah, just got flight prices and waiting accomodation info. Looking real good and we are super keen.
  6. We are so spoiled for choice in tygerberg, we have around 20 bike shops within a 10km radius. It's pretty crazy if u think about it. Good luck with the venture.
  7. U should get some decent downtube protection if u plan on running the citius up front, that tire picks up lank stones and throws it straight at your frame.
  8. All canis tires I've seen have had canvas showing and tearing on the sidewalls
  9. Was a real good event, enjoyed it immensely. Was great passing the refreshment station twice for some well needed energy.
  10. U got me chasing trail. The series really motivates me to take the bike out and ride. Awesome setting for a backdrop. If I'm ever up that side I'd definitely tap that trail.
  11. Yeah the price has become a bit of an issue, it's double what I paid to race in kzn last year. Come on dirtopia, drop your prices a bit. At this pricing we going to have to get picky with events to attend when wpge release their dates, which is bad for both parties. I hate to see what next year brings...... we may start seeing more private races popping up.
  12. I'm definitely psyched about the season. Apparently he's cutting a new first stage so hopefully he does away with the old short rocky stage, it is just a little too short to use. I think that a reccy mission is required if u wanna push it on the day, I was out there a week ago and it was riding great. I may make a mission out that way on friday afternoon.
  13. Hey, at least they give u a sticker pack with the purchase. I just get so bummed when you see a nice bike, then inquire about the price and have your heart broken. I am sometimes to embarrassed to ask for prices in stores, i dont want to be THAT guy but i suppose i am not alone.
  14. I think the competition should be renamed to "Best Looking Bike" Seems they are being judged on the looks and specs and not the actual ability of the bike.
  15. I gave this one a skip, but it looks like a great coarse. I do agree that the timing has to be sorted out which is a major part if not the whole race. It seems every race has timing issues. they seriously need to break free from the common denominator in this instance and move to a different system as it is really getting to a point that they are going to lose the riders who support them. The photo's look great and makes me a little sad i did not enter. I am really keen to see what time system the guys in Durban are using.
  16. I saw that one earlier, there is a also a guy on there selling reconditioned engines for them and beetles. I have been considering getting a panel van to do some epic touring adventures. We may only live once
  17. Saw that there on the weekend, it looked pretty good. I wonder what price they would come in at.
  18. Those Yeti's are sweet but the service of the local distributer is k@k, hope they get their acts together. Was going to buy one but decided to luss the possibility of future headaches. That Norco looks great, and the thunderbolt too, but i would personally go for the Altitude instead, Rather too much travel than too little, the geo can be dial'd in via the ride9 system to suite your style and mates of mine who have them are loving them. I do like their 2015 carbon frame colour. Why not add the Trek Remedy to that list? Hearing awesome things about them, and with the project 1 option you could have a 1 of a kind locally. They also have test bikes available as far as I know. I saw a matt blue Trek the other day at Cyclefunatics and it looked so good. Give them a shout and i'm sure they can hook you up with a test bike.
  19. Will definitely do You'd have to contact your LBS for exact pricing, I think it would be between R500 & R600 per tire.
  20. They are 2.35 tyres, they look fat because my rims are mega wide. Yes. They are front and rear specific. They are currently very new in SA, request them from your LBS, they should be able to get them. They are really worth it. Website says 2 wheel trading are distributor...... http://veetireco.com/distributors/ Sure are, but they ride better than they look.
  21. I removed my HD combo last week and set some sweet new Vee Rubber Crown tires on my bike. These tires roll like a XC and grip like baboons claw to a banana. Took them down contermanskloof at 2bar pressure and they held up very well to the jagged rocks, no rim slams, tears or damage... sidewalls hold up very well. I dropped them to about 1.8bar down Bloemslang and normal st and they were awesome. these tires come in at 708g per tire(manufacturer stated) so managed to drop about 500g off the bike from the HD SG and PS combo.
  22. Was also looking at that combo, the hd sg is very heavy so I need to drop it. Was at spez shop to check the tyres, pricing is great but my only concern is the sidewall, they don't feel that solid and now riding with carbon rims I would hate for a sidewall tear, which I hear does happens when pushing spez tyres through the rough, I ride conties so I think the possibility would be even greater. Paarl is not that gnarly wrt rocks so they should be ok.
  23. HD isn't a terrible tyre, I just don't think it's a summer tyre. It is fantastic when the trails are moist-wet. just doesn's hook up as well in the dry loose stuff. I have been running them at 1.8 Bar, super g & pace star. I am removing this week to try some new rubber for summer, I will refit the HD for winter. The HD pacestar does seem to wear fast on the rear. Front is showing signs of side knob tears even though the centre tread looks newish.
