  1. I have an older lobo, fit is ok for a small pack, space is a bit minimal. Can just fit the necessities like multi, extra layer phone and food. I recently bought an evoc 16l pack which I'm using atm. Fit is excellent and plenty space for everything I need to take on an all day ride and weight is distributed well enough that the weight is not an issue, nice tool compartment and main compartment is plenty big to fit safety gear and extra clothing layers.
  2. I dont really like the samoosa thing going on in the top tube area, looks silly. Come to think of it, Didn't giant have that on the 2008 reign? If they did then I think a lawsuit is in order against spez..... give em some of their own medicine.
  3. Can't really say. I have only opened up and the lower section where the bushings etc are located. I haven't opened the internals of the upper part of the switch pulley yet.
  4. I've had my Command Post for about a year now. Only issues i've had has been cables snaps, but thats usual wear and tear. I'm not phased by having limited settings as i only require up and down. It's very easy to service, i've pulled mine apart and serviced a few times already and it's a 10min job. The post only sounds harsh when it rises, not damaging if it hits you. I've got mine set at 23Psi which is still pretty fast but soft if it does hit, still sounds harsh. I find that i am never low down toward the seat when its being raised, so nut cracking aint a big issue. I've seen many complaints about the single bolt clamp and can honestly say that the saddle has only shifted once, in the beginning. I switch the post between 2 bikes and i often loosen and tighten the seat trick is to wiggle it hard when tight then tweak it tight again. Its all on the youtube service video. I've purchased an extra lever kit for my other bike which costed half the price of the KS lever. I bought the seat cause it was the best bang for my buck at the time and stock of other brands were non existent, it was the only seatpost with 125mm available which could be self serviced. Still very happy with it.
  5. Don't fret, could be a blessing in disguise. Go try out an Altitude, Rocky Mountain suspension design is top class. My Slayer has the best rear suspension i have ever felt, absolute zero effect on chain and rear brake when active. I ride a narrow wide up front with a clutchless derailleur and haven't dropped a chain once in 5 months of riding it. RM bikes are doing very well in the Cape Enduro races as well. Contact Jaco at The Bike Shed, ask if they have one to test, i'm sure you'll dig it.
  6. Condolences to Lee's family, it is really a unfortunate event that took place that day. I had a bit of a reality check that evening when Lee crashed. Events like that keep me in check and help me be grateful for what i have today. Human errors occur very often on trails and things can go real bad real fast. I've had a fair amount of falls at Hoogekraal and they have all been due to human error on my part. Not the trails fault.
  7. Don't trust their guides, they are incorrect...Think its only a guideline as frame geometry differs from manufacturer to manufacturer.... just find the right sag with full kit on(I ran about 20-25%) with the O-Ring, make sure you are stationary and that the fork , if CTD, is on Descend. Ride with a shock pump for the first few times and if it feels to hard/soft let 5 psi out/in at a time ride and then test..... i found that my front end would not hold well on fast corners if fork pressure was too low, so i'd rather run a little hard at first...... that's my xp. I found that i was running about 60-65 Psi when fox suggested 81.....
  8. They are located just off Vissershok rd at Thaba Business Park in Hooggelegen rd. if you ride from Durbanville side toward Blouberg its the second left after the D'Urbanvale 3 way stop street.
  9. Just shows how much many bike shops wanna bs people, it's all about creating a demand to turn a profit. I try not to support bike shops who don't cater for the 26 market.
  10. I only took for a short test run & I didn't have time to adjust my riding style so my comment may be a bit biased. In terms of ease of starting to jump, air height and distance, flex of larger wheels, could the niners really compete in the category the OP mentioned he wants the bike for? Not putting the 29er down, but i don't feel its suited for the type of riding mentioned. It can't be argued that the 9's are doing exceptional things in the marathon/xc events but on more aggressive stuff its not really doing so well. As skylark said, test ride all long travel wheel size bikes on some nice tech trails and get what feels best.
  11. I think you gonna struggle a bit getting 29 wheels off the ground, i did a short test ride on the Spez Enduro 29, awesome bike but wheels wanna stay down on the ground, you'll get more lift and air on smaller wheels as well as less flex on the rims. Thats why i baught a 650b after i tested the Enduro.
  12. Look..... at the end of the day Mr KE was wrong(there's no denying that, he admitted cutting the corner) Now people are talking about sportsmanship and throwing that word around a lot these days, Do you think that what he did was very sportsmanship like? I don't. Do you think he would've been a real sportsman by declining a win by admitting fault if no one said anything about the incident, I seriously doubt it. I don't feel that team Scott did anything wrong by bringing the matter to light. I probably would've done the same. Lots of emotions involved in racing and i'm sure they thought about that a lot while in the saddle that day. There's a saying, hang around a barber shop and u gonna get your hair cut. I also don't feel that Mr Sausser is very sportsmans like. Cheating is cheating my 2c's Peace
  13. Nice bike. and nice price. Looks like there's competition for the Trance. Now... if only the other bike companies come to the party and lower their prices, wouldn't that be great? I don't think you would need to change those brakes, Deore brakes are supposed to be very good? SLX, XT and Deore are the same afaik, just minor weight differences and also different finishes.
  14. May be saying that about 29" wheels one of these days.
  15. I run a Onza Ibex 2.4 up front and a 2.35 Maxxis Ardent on the rear of my am bike it I like it alot..... been on for about a year and still Going strong with 4-5 rides a week. Onza grips better for me than the hd I had up front on my 650b, but that was pace star compound so it's apparently wrong for the front, I just got the hd super g for the front but still gotta take it out for a spin.
  16. I guess it will depend whether or not you fall on the d30 pocket. The D30 in the giro's worked, i fell pretty often with em and the impact to the palm was minimal, I was also skeptic until i hit the gloved hand hard on the sides of granite table tops to test. you hardly feel any harshness. My last fall with the remedies was pretty hard and it tore the d30 pocket open, I hardly felt a thing on my hands.
  17. That was fast mail, thanks swindle. The fit is great, very snug.

    Steilte Trails

Does that mean there will be an open day this weekend? I've been reading about this place and as i read i'm getting excited to hit some trails...... think i'm gonna have to call in sick.
  19. Just ordered a Pair of Sentinels, and a pair of sunglasses for my lady friend.
  20. I've purchased a few times and its pretty safe, if you have a paypal account you get buyers protection which is very good, only had to use it once and they paid back the lost funds in a matter of days...... Like Dubbelbuys said, just check the buyer ratings and feedback, i also try not to buy from anyone with under 100 sales/buys. i'd also not buy the clothing items from hong kong cause alot of the stuff from their as we all know are counterfeit.
  21. Thanks, I was looking at the dirt paws but don't see them at local bike retailers if been to, is there any duty on gloves if I order from crc? Or does anyone know who stocks them in cape town?
  22. hey there been on here for a while but never posted anything so here goes: Been riding for 2 years now and been through a few pairs of gloves already, the more expensive ones are only lasting roughly 6-8 months, the previous 2 pairs were Giro, the Monaco LF lasted roughly 8 months and after a fall they tore up pretty bad, so I thought I'd try the Giro Remedy, they started pulling apart at the seam of the thumb and palm as well as tearing through on the sides of the fingers after about 4 months & after yet another fall the palm has torn 6 months in ....... I need to buy a new pair of gloves real soon and i'm not really keen on forking out another 450 South African Ronds if it aint gonna last, so my question is... Are there any glove suggestions that you cats may have in the cool, stylish, protective and hard wearing category?
