    Rapha Festive 500

Hmm, in our family we have "Christmas" a few days after the real Christmas. Allows one to take advantage of empty stores, 50% discounts and you miss the horrifying experience of a mall just before Christmas. Anyways, that means my schedule looks as follows: 24th: Argus route + a few extra kms; 115km 25th: Cape Town - Constantia - Houtbay - Camps Bay route: 45km 26th: Cape Town - Constantia - Houtbay - Camps Bay route: 45km 27th: Argus route + a few extra kms; 115km 28th: Rest day / "Christmas" shopping 29th: Cape Town - Fish Hoek - Chappies - Camps Bay route: 70km 30th: Rest day / "Christmas" 31st: Argus route + a few extra kms; 115km Total = 505km
  3. Looks like they missed you at the checkpoints? That sucks, wouldn't have been happy if that had happened to me.
  4. Just saw the results: http://www.jailbreak.co.za/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=IX6qeIqOX4E%3d&tabid=38 Guy's name is Tristan Kelly and that one serious ass kicking he dealt out.

    Argus 2013

I ride Suikerbossie about 4 to 5 times a week, and 7 minutes isn't that hard. The gradient actually decreases after the first half and the last quarter is very easy. Keeping a 16kph average is very doable. I ride a 11-23 and normally have 1 gear to spare if there isn't a headwind.
  8. OK, time to own up. Which one of you was this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL9pbXZoMjo#t=3m00s

Yes, very doable, can't wait as I'm off between Christmas and New Year. Will probably do quite a bit more than 500km

    Rapha Festive 500

Ja, I'm in. Not sure whether my legs will appreciate the present, but I'm pretty sure my SO won't
  11. Yes, I have Gatorskins and have had punctures with tyres less than 200km old. I always (race and training) carry: 2 x Bombs 2 x Plastic Tyre Levers 1 x Tube 1 x Patch Kit 1 x Multi Tool Pretty sure whatever happens, I'll be able to deal with it.
  12. 1.1km swim 44km bike 11km run
  13. Nice times.
  14. How did your Jailbreak go? Splits?
  15. Yes, not too worried, 21km isn't that far
  16. All I've been doing is the bike Having trouble with my back and running seems to make it worse. Will give it a few more weeks and then start running again.
  17. About once a ride, if I'm lucky, there's a moment when the road is quiet and the wind drops to a whisper. I can hear my own breathing, the soft snicker of my chain over the gears and the whoosh of my tyres skimming over the road. My mind feels clear and with every breath I can taste the cool morning air I'm sucking down to keep the pedals turning. Everything else is filtered out and I feel like I'm part of my bike, part of the road. It feels like I could keep on cycling forever. That's why I cycle.
  18. I agree with most of what you said re tubbies, but feel I have to say something for Gatorskins. They are sluggish tyres, but I'll take the 2 minute penalty over a 6 hour ride any day if it means I don't have to fix 1 puncture. I've experienced both sides of the coin, i.e. racing tyres with low rolling resistance and getting a puncture vs. Gatorskins and no punctures, and my preference is for the Gatorskins.
  19. See how clueless I am? By this time I'm so used to getting raped I bring my own Vaseline...
  20. Each to his own. I guess I'm just not cut out to be a freedom fighter. Just by the way: I did the Burger this weekend and it cost... wait for it... R210. That's R10 more than the 99er! Damn your eyes PPA!
  21. Protests should be about something worthwhile, like, for example: a living wage, an end to political oppression or an end to a country's involvement in a war. But you're welcome to protest about R35 if you feel it's a worthwhile cause.
  22. I, for one, will also cut off my nose to spite my face! Actually, no, wait... I don't care about petty politics and accept that the sport I chose has some costs associated with it. Also, I'm not a bergie, so I think I'll just manage to scrape together that extra R35 the evil, evil CSA is making us pay! Seriously: how so many people can care enough about such a small thing such as this is beyond me.

  24. Guess it's a matter of perspective. I used to play golf and my monthly membership fees were more than 3 times what I pay on a yearly basis for cycling membership fees. A "cheap" Saturday's golf costs in the region of R300 - R350 and there aren't any marshals or pretty girls handing out medals when you finish.
