  1. Also been having issues with my "seethroughvita" shorts as are my brother and his son. Previous generation ciovita bibs are still going strong but new ones only used on the indoor trainer. All get washed cold sports wash cycle with no fabric softener so I think part of the problem is that the cuts are getting smaller (therefore tighter) putting fabric under strain. Just purchased my 4th mens small corsa 2 (crash replacement) and it is too small. Having to swap for a med yet according to size charts I'm definitely a small. Time to try something new I think.
  2. Hi Max Headroom Thanks so much for the constructive feedback which will be taken to the committee along with others on this thread. Please do not see an SGM or AGM as being a waste of time. Request for items to be put on the agenda, insist on being heard. The committee serve at the request of the members and we need to do our best to lead in a way that reflects those interests.
  3. Hi All While we may not share the same views on hospitality as the land owner, it is his property and we (including our members) will abide by his rules. We can put it to our members at a special vote if we keep Meerendal on our trail network so if you feel that this should be done, please send requests to have it at the November 10 SGM for 2023 club fees (info@tygerbergmtb.co.za). However, you need to give consideration to the fact that for people new to the sport, it is one of the only trail networks providing green graded trails. For many, it is the closest trail and there is safe parking. This may not be to your liking, but we have over 7000 members and none of us can claim to hold a view point which encompasses every mountain biker. So in short, before we go about bashing anybody, please try to include some more "we" and "our" into our conversations and remember that it is a huge juggling act for predominantly volunteers, to cater for the needs and wants of an extremely diverse group of mountain bikers as well as the owners of the land our trails are built on.
  4. Hi all We're not fond of hiding behind aliases and you can get the list of committee members from our website and I'm happy to correspond directly if required. We apologise unreservedly for both the language and tone of the latest club newsletter. It was both offensive and a poor reflection on the club, it's employees, it's leadership and the sport as a whole. We do not however condone riding in such a way that causes undue wear and tear on our trails. The purchase of an annual or day permit does not entitle you to ride a trail in a way that causes undue wear and tear. Going forward, our newsletters will be vetoed before publishing.
  5. bad enough you do this but to suggest others do the same on a blog site??
  6. The club secretary has confirmed that all pending CSA licenses have been approved but the CSA offices are closed for the holidays so I'm not able to follow this up for you at the moment. Please can you pm me your details in the interim.
  7. 2013 memberships are opening up on Monday morning on the website
  8. it is normally 2 - 3 working days - please pm me with first name, surname and contact number so I can follow up for you.
  9. just waiting for confirmation from the membership manager and will let you know - there was a problem with the printing of the boards which caused a delay.
  10. bike boards for 2013 are not ready yet due to a printing issue and we will post when they are available and online transactions are open. Yes you can ride with just your receipt at the moment. Yes, you can purchase 2012 membership at R200 each which gives you a bikeboard and access to all trails and green corridors. Nope you cannot ride green corridors without a bikeboard. If you are lucky, a drol will ask you where it is but if you are unlucky, you may encounter an irate and armed landowner
  11. Hello there to all of you Full memberships were reduced to R200 which is valid until the end of January so if you're looking for some holiday riding, please purchase your membership online at http://www.tygerberg...ain-member.html and you will be notified when your board can be collected at the Protea hotel at Majik forest. This is a full membership and gives you access to the following trails: Meerendal Hooggekraal Contermanskloof Kliprug Hillcrest and also the green corridors between the trails Alternatively, access is R30 per trail per day (no access to green corridors)
  12. Correct - visitors are most welcome. The Wednesday nightrides from Nitida didn't take off nearly as well as the Meerendal night rides but we can restart them if there's sufficient interest. Other than Thursday at Meerendal, trail ride times are between sunrise and sunset so if you need a light, stick to Majik or the dirt road network.

  14. Hi there Folks - please note that the Meerendal section does not go up the blue route singletrack as it did in the 2012 prologue, but turns left onto the jeep track at the top of Stairway to Heaven (and continues along the jeep track all the way to the top - ouch!) We will mark the route either this weekend or early next week for those of you who wish to do the Meerendal Prologue portion of the challenge. Safe Riding :-)

  16. There is a change of routing at Bloemendal with effect Friday 9 November. The land owners are becoming very concerned at the amount of vehicle traffic that is now a reality at the Bon Amis restaurant area, which is going to result in an accident shortly. They are also concerned at the amount of cyclists not sticking to the designated routes and are finding people cycling all over their vineyards. Please note: This area on the Bloemendal farm, as well as the green corridor through Nitida is strictly for Tygerberg MTB members only. The new route is as follows: Coming from upper Majik, we have closed off the route that runs down the perimeter fence next to D'Aria and re-routed to an option of either the central road down, or the extreme western road down that borders the fence next to adjacent farm and runs into that little single track section. Both routes are clearly marked and join up at the bottom, where we have now rerouted the bottom section over the dam wall. All is well marked and there shouldnt be any problems. The two routes in reverse obviously apply. Please stick to these two routes and dont cycle anywhere else on the farm as both the land owners and ourselves will be policing the area. Non-members: Please make use of the access through D'Aria which joins Majik at the electricity sub-station (aka speedway).
  17. HI there all Lots of questions and concerns to respond to and probably won't get all in. Quick background: the club sent notice of an SGM to propose a new constitution (not an amended document intended to "slip" anything in but a completely new document that was required as the old document was no longer suitable for a club of it's size). I've pm'd those who've identified themselves as club members outlining where and when communication was sent as well as supplying my personal contact details so they can contact me directly with any queries. The changes in the constitution that relate to multisport and trail running were mostly initiated by requests from club members who also trail run.It is in response to these queries that the committee included trail running in the document. Many of us are concerned over shared use of the trails so if you are a member and not happy with the constitution as it stands, please vote or respond as per the details at the bottom of the original post. We do not feel that this forum is the most helpful place to be discussing internal club issues, but we are happy to respond to queries related to the club and it's trails in a new posting.
  18. Le Turbo - Meerendal, contermanskloof, hillcrest and kliprug trails can be ridden with day permits while Hoogekraal and the meerendal green corridor are member only trails (requested by land owners). Signage was replaced in the last month but sadly somebody has been removing and damaging some of these signs already. We issue bike boards to members which is interesting in itself - 95% use it but some complain about the aerodynamics (not sure how much a 15x8cm board can slow you down) as well as cluttering of the bars. note - boards will be smaller next year. Our trails are too extensive to police properly and the more we police, the more people jump fences and use other areas to access (currently 6 official entrances to our trails). An sms day permit system (send an sms at a cost of R30 and receive an sms proof of payment in return) is pending and this will also make payment and policing easier.
  19. Yes the club has done a bit of work in Majik and more will be done but the bulk of work has been done on our pay-to-ride trails. We've built a new trail for club members only at hoogekraal and if there's sufficient interest, we can arrange for a hubbers day there. Money generated from annual and day permit sales is spent on securing land access and building and maintaining trails and recently money obtained from day permits in conjunction with land owners was used for purchasing raincoats and suitcases for farm school children, planting of fynbos and installing solar geysers for meerendal farm workers.
  20. sorry to be a bit late off the mark on this one. We have LOTS of people riding the trails without paying and we cannot police all trails all the time. I escorted 2 blokes off the meerendal/contermanskloof green corridor last week (non members who rode through hillcrest without paying) and lo and behold, I see them climbing over the fence into meerendal. Sadly for these chaps, our club officer was on the trail and he soon apprehended them and they were ordered to pay up immediately. Most of you folks on the trails are an awesome bunch so if you see us policing out there, please give a smile and a wave to make up for any verbal abuse we receive
  21. also washing machine after hosing the worst off the outside - take out insoles and fasten velcro so it doesn't stick to anything else in the machine.
  22. Ride is on for this Wednesday at 6H30. No confirmation yet on beer and boeries but awesome views and some extra km's of trail are a definite.
  23. we have nightrides at hillcrest, Durbanville on Wednesday nights at 6:30 and then at Meerendal on Thursday nights at 7pm. You can keep an eye open on the tygerberg mountain bike club page on facebook http://www.facebook.com/groups/tygerbergmtb/ and wednesday rides will also be posted on the hub group rides.
