  4. To me that's just totally unbelievable.... and more unbelievable that some people actually spend that much on a bike. But there are always those ridiculously wealthy that can justify that kind of expense. So happy that the top of the range 24" Mountain Unicycle is only going to set me back R5000 , and even if I upgraded to a carbon fibre seatpost, CF reinforced saddle, titanium hub and frame.... I'd still be paying under R15K... and what would I get for the extra R10K at the end of the day.... a few hundred gramms shaved off the weight.

  8. So a group of 4 of us did the Argus MTB Challenge over the weekend. 3 did the 26km route, and the last the 13km route. As others have said on the forums already it was a tough race. I found it personally so tough, the soft loose sand was a killer, and the heat was intense. We all finished with Arne even going back after he had finished to "fetch" Johnny, and then a while later to "fetch" me He really is a legend on a Unicycle and such a genuinely great person. I had a flat 2.5 km's from the end which I stopped to fix, but as I was pumping the tyre back up the valve ripped out of the tube .... Arne told me to take his Unicycle to the end, and he pushed mine back. Group: Front - Arne (26km) Back from left - Johnny (26km), Paul (2 wheeleer), Brent (26km), Linda (13km) Arne the crazy German Arne showing off some skills after the race: Brent finishing: Linda finishing: Johnny finishing: Johnny doing some Seat-Out before the race: JohnnyReggae2009-03-04 13:54:21
  9. Why .. ? What you selling ?
  10. So only yesterday I was moaning in the Tech Q&A forum about my tyre saying how rubbish it was and wanting a particular new tyre. Went out for a ride in Tokai yesterday evening with my 29'er, and the tyre decided to prove how rubbish it was as karma punishment for me Dropping down onto the jeep track exiting Mamba the tyre folded when I reached the bottom of the dip, throwing me off and I ended up doing a rolling bail. No worries... dusted myself off, got back on ... then noticed that my tyre had popped off the rim slightly. Would have needed to deflate the tyre to pop the tyre back on..... doh !!! .. no pump to pump the tyre back up. No one around.... so decide to ride very slowly down Boomslang hoping to catch a MTB'er who had a pump I could borrow..... next thing .... BLAM ... tube burst !! Net result.... a very long walk back to the parking lot, unicycle over the shoulder. No spare tube, no pump .... My own fault for not carrying the necessary spares, but on a uni it's just such an issue. I barely have enough space in my camlbak for the tools I need to do general maintenance, the sum total being a bunch of Allen keys, a 10mm spanner, and a puncture repair kit. So now to get a replacement tube, plus a spare as I want to use my 29'er for the Argus MTB this weekend. Going for a ride with my 24" rather this afternoon, feel like launching off some drops and ramps. Bottom line.... karma will get you JohnnyReggae2009-02-26 01:26:54
  11. Cool stuff... deal. No point in hanging onto a tyre I don't like and am not going to use.
  12. hahahahaha !!!! Remember that song well.... still have the 12" maxi single on vinyl I still have the 12" maxi of Pet Shop Boys' It's a Sin. I bought it then for 99c at P'n P. 80's classic .... I think that's what I paid for the 12" maxi of Paul Hardcastle's 19 ... probably was from P'nP or Game... don't remember ... too long ago JohnnyReggae2009-02-25 07:39:54
  13. I am looking for a WTB Stout 29" tyre. I have phoned a number of cycle shops looking for one and no one seems to stock it. Does anyone know of a cycle shop that may stock them ? I'm currently using a WTB Exiwolf, and for my application is really a rubbish tyre. The sidewalls are too thin so the tyre buckles/bends whenever I take any drops with it, starting at 1 foot even. Taking bigger drops makes it worse obviously, resulting in it kind of throwing me off when it pulls itself back into shape after the drop when the wheel corrects itself It also does not have an aggressive enough profile so it slips/slides on loose sand.

  15. Here is a video posted recently to a Unicycle forum showing: riding skinny's hop up with crank grab first then to rubber gliding MUni with some decent drops http://vimeo.com/3305004
  16. Jane dont look to bad either.Hope She's not your wife. How did that guy get on that fence?Nope Jane is not my wife. My wife has tried to unicycle and gave up, but may be willing to try again with some persuasion. As for getting on the fence... he climbed up with the uni, then got onto it. In unicycling terms it's called riding a skinny, and involves being able to still-stand and depending on the length of the skinny... riding it as well. Some guys are good enough to hop up from the ground on their Uni's to the obstacle using either a crank/pedal grab on first hop and then going to rubber from there, or to hop from the ground to rubber on the obstacle. Highest hop to rubber is around 1.2m. Longest long-jump record is around 3.2m, using a rolling hop.
