  1. Posting this to gauge interest in people wanting to attend a Unicycling workshop to learn how to ride a unicycle. Myself and the others that I ride with have been noticing an increase in interest from people about unicycling, and figure that a workshop would be a great idea to get a larger group of interested people together to give them a chance to unicycle. The idea is to hold it on a weekend, probably a Saturday or Sunday morning for a few hours. Enough to try out a few different unicycles and even get riding. We have a range of unicycle sizes and numbers between us to give everyone a go. If you're keen, post to this thread and depending on numbers of interested people I'll arrange something.
  2. I don't see the point of cleaning it actually. My Mountain Uni is made to take the knocks and deal with dirt. In the 21 months that I've had my beast I have never cleaned it In fact the only water it's seen is when I ride through puddles or in the rain. It gets cleaned by mother nature
  3. Cemetery Of Scream - In Your Blood
  4. I reckon 1 gear is enough
  5. Monster Magnet - Slap In The Face
  6. Top of Vasbyt (Level 2), down Vasbyt, and then at the new small Northshore section on DownHill 4 before the Quarry.
  7. and some more....
  8. 3 of us on our trusty one-wheelers did an awesome ride in Tokai Forest on Sunday morning bright and early. I suffered a lot due to some over indulgence of Tequila the day before and not riding for a while but still enjoyed the ride which lasted almost 4 hours. Was quite knackered for the rest of the day though. Some pics from the day:
  9. Megadeth - Endgame (off the upcoming release of the same name) looking forward to hearing the rest of the album
  10. Wow !!! That was amazing.... insane stuff, enjoyed watching that.
  11. I'd be inclined to agree with your suggestions. Mostly because I've seen a lot of Downhill guys really going hell-for-leather in those places. The Berm marked at 2 in particular, as the Downhill guys fly down Lizard, over the jeep track and straight down into the Berm. They would have almost no time to react should someone be riding up the berm, and I've seen plenty guys riding up the berm. I do see a lot of guys going uphill move over for the guys going down, but as with everything there are those that feel their right of way takes precedence over safety.
  12. I've just had my Polar's battery replaced. Also cost me a similar amount to what others have mentioned, except I paid I little extra to have the face replaced. It was scratched to sh!t, and the extra R100 makes it look brand new which I was willing to pay for. Took about 2 weeks.
  13. Quite an entertaining 7 page read. Can you feel the love..... man it's in the air today.
  14. Entry level Uni's are in the range of R600 - R1000 For an adult I would recommend a 24" Uni, however a 20" Uni may be more practical if you have some kids that would be keen to learn as well. 24" Entry Level Uni 20" Entry Level Uni You may find a cheaper Chinese no-name at a LBS, which is what I did originaly. Paid R550 for my 24", that was a few years ago though. 24" Cross Mountain Uni The 24" Qu-Ax Cross is the MUni that I currently use, and for the price is well worth the money. I have upgraded some of the parts, cranks, pedals, seatpost. 24" Qu-Ax Mountain Uni This 24" MUni is bomb-proof. Some of the guys riding in Tokai use this MUni. Guys in the Uni Community have tried to kill this Uni without success. Some parts will fatigue as with any Unicycle, usually seatposts and pedals. 24" KH Mountain Uni Top of the range 24" Mountain Uni. Kris Holm Unicycles are rated as the best Mountain Unicycles, designed by the legendary Kris Holm. If I had the cash available right now I would definitely get this MUni. Chat to Alan at Oddwheel Unicycles in JHB. The guy is very helpful, and if he has stock you can have the Unicycle in a couple of days depending on where you are. I have received items in 2 days of ordering them, in Cape Town.
  15. Well ... normally 1:1 But with the Schlumpf geared hub you get 2 gears. a. 1:1 b. 1:1.5 So a 24" wheel could cover the same distance as a 36" with a single pedal stroke. They were used very effectively by the winning German team in Ride The Lobster (800km's over 5 days) in Canada last year. They used geared 36" Unicycles and averaged speeds of around 25km/h, but managed to get top speeds of over 35km/h JohnnyReggae2009-08-07 05:29:13
  16. Crazy stuff
  17. Cool. Will keep an eye out for you next time
  18. Thanks man !! We do have a few videos up on YouTube. They are also up on our Video Gallery on the AmaOneTya website. Most of the time when we bail' date=' which is fairly regularly, we land on our feet. With nothing in the way ie. frame and handle bars, we simply let go and jump off if things get quite sticky Occasionally I beat myself into the ground, but seeing as we don't really go very fast, unless things get horribly out-of-control on some steep downhill, it doesn't really hurt at all. Thanks DHK ... was there this afternoon, spent most of my time riding down Vasbyt many times before taking the single track down. Was an awesome ride !! I just wish there was a lift system that went up to level 5
  19. I clearly lost all good sense a while ago, and will again this afternoon. The single tracks are calling me
  20. The latest Ride Magazine has a very cool article on us Unicyclists, done by Steve Shapiro following a ride that Steve did with the group in May this year in Tokai Forest. We posted an article on the AmaOneTya website a while back about it, and is still on the main page
