  1. i hear what camp 2 say and its true but they still need to be regulated just like any other recreational sport. ask any golfer about cheating - u are banned for life. get sent off in a rugby or soccer game, u appear before a disciplinary (i know, got a red card 3 times over a 22 year period). recreational cyclists use public roads to enjoy their sport - and i'm talking about organised fun rides not your social club ride, fun riders need to be regulated. period. so that u have recourse to some body/association if all rules and regs are not adhered to. i reported to the ppa that one of their members was continously cheating in league events by taking short cuts. i got told , they have no evidence, he started and finished. he was a member of the same club as me so we set him up. after i as a normal ppa member arranged statements from riders in the vets league, tandem fun ride and u16 league did the ppa take me seriously and banned him for 2 years. and then to top it all he still rode in their fun rides because they had no control at the entry tables. i reported this to the ppa and got told if u see him then report it to the start marshals ( as if i need this type of aggro at 6 in the a.m.). now if he was licensed , his licensed would have been taken away. no license no ride.
  2. the latest from the ppa (just heard it on the radio) , the csa want all recreational cyclist to take out a license (r75). the ppa call this an unneccessary tax but they don't mention that when ppa were part of the csa structures all ppa members were automatically made a licensed member of csa. the ppa increased their annual fees BUT the ppa did not pay the R75 over to csa they kept it.
  3. bullsh1t smoke and mirrors and i don't have the time to tear it apart other than the last paragraph. they forgot to add that the csa is made up of provincial bodies who are made up of clubs who promote and encourage cycling in all its forms.these clubs activities are focused on developing and coaching young cyclists to reach the standard that CSA require of them to compete at international and Olympic level. whoever wrote the the above affidavit must attend a development session (at the velodrome) or youth festival and see some of the bikes, equipment and kit that some development kids race on. its sad but real.
  4. my biggest gripe is: the ppa do a wonderful job - i am a member for the past 20 years. i attend and pay to ride/race their events. BUT the proceeds of my entry fees goes to a charity of the organisers choice. no if or buts , if you organise a funride the ppa want to know what charity will benefit from the proceeds. i also belong to a cycling club - am a member for the last 20 years. i attend their club rides and races BUT don't pay anything other than my annual subs. the provincial body that my club belongs to organise races. i pay to enter and the proceeds of my entry cover the cost and the balance is paid out in prize money i am essentially a member of 2 association/clubs in CTown. one operates within the national body and the other outside. they both have their merits. i know which one is doing more for cycling in a direct way and i know which one is using me for other purposes (admirable or not). i say fine , why don't the ppa become a club of the local CSA region (wpca) and compete with the other clubs in the wpca for my membership. why don't ppa become wp ppa???? that's what they were in the beginning. let the ppa become the regional body for this region in the CSA, the csa can't take any funds from them other than affiliation fees and levies which every other promotor or organiser of cycle races pay to CSA (and ppa don't). but they won't , they will lose at least 800 active cyclists in the wp who belong to wpca clubs.
  5. YES , YES , YES, I AGREE. but they won't as they don't have the capacity to do it. ppa have an exco (volunteers) just like the csa. they have a full time office staff just like the csa (admin staff who don't know one end of the bike from the other) they only operate in the cape, which means they would have to form regions (csa have this already(unpaid volunteers)) they don't have dedicated commissions ie road, track, bmx, mtb, paracycling (csa have this already(unpaid volunteers))
  6. bump
  7. i agree - testicular cancer for me. nice to have but i wouldn't die without them. ppa / csa, work together for everyones sake.
  8. the csa operated quiet smoothly ito of its founding constitution until Sascoc came up with the idea that all sporting codes have to have 9 provincial bodies only. every other sport has a national body, if you take part in that sport u belong to a club or association that is affiliated to that national body. ppa want to operate outside of the national body. huh. if their court application is successful then every other sport will be affected. it will be open season. i'll organise a soccer tourament in CT stadium , invite Ajax CT, Ajax Amsterdam, Bloem Celtic and Glasgow Celtic. i'll make a packet and the teams, public will have no recourse back to me if i cock up.
  9. the csa did'nt write the ppa out of its constitution. this is all smoke and mirrors. which 1 of the 9 provinces of the rsa will the ppa affiliate to? its as simple as that. affiliate to a province and carry on as normal. and another tip - ditch the lawyers from your committee and you might start seeing progres.
  10. then every sporting body in the country is guilty of extortion
  11. you're wrong - csa don't want to take over the ppa they want them to be the recreational body within the csa structure. sascoc want 9 provinces for every sport and insist that the sports bodies constitution reflect that. all sports bodies will be forced to only have 9 provincial bodies. ppa were not written out of the constitution by csa
  12. thats where it ends - organisers are responsible for everything else. wrt league - the ppa are guilty of allowing their members to be exploited if the only prize that is awarded is a gift voucher. sponsor or no sponsor, all infrastrucure is in place for a cycle race. if the funride event also has league status the only additional expense would be officials and maybe an a dedicated ambulance. league entry fees are payable upfront so income is guaranteed funrides want league status because it attracts more entries most events attract 800 riders - league attracts 1000 (where the other 17 to 18000 ppa members are only they would know)(my guess is, very inactive). working on 300 league cyclist at R150 an event, generates R45 000 less expenses of R7 000 for officials, R1 800 for ambulance, give half of the balance to the organiser leaves you with R18k for prize money. iow the league event generates its own prize money - throw in a sponsor - someone is making money BUT IT IS MOST DEFINETLY NOT THE CYCLIST.
  13. both organisations do a really lot of good work for the sport. and they both need each other. the ppa can't operate in a vacuum. the csa want them to be part of the sport's structures. as an affiliate looking after recreational cycling. just like running each participant in an event should be licensed thru a club/association/or whatever. if you are not licensed then u take out a day license. at the moment it is a free for all. i can put on an event tomoro with no road permission, event permission, no ambulance, no liability cover. but i don't becos i'm affiliated to wpca and their rules stipulate i must get all of the red tape out of the way, to cover their arse,my arse and your arse.
  14. to all the csa bashers .......if only u really knew what is going on. simple, just replace the csa with the ppa. then what? the ppa is only in CTown. do they have provincial champs? no do they have national champs? no do they award provincial colours for road, track, mtb? no do they organise any cycle event? No do they send representative team o/seas? no do they coach / train teams, individuals?no are they affiliated to provincial or national association? no the PPA, make use of cyclists to raise funds for various benefactors other than cycling.period. if you'r happy with that then so be it. don't moan when our representative teams have to pay their own way to compete o/seas.
  15. like any other sport in sa , u can't organise an event without it being sanctioned by the governing body of that sport. just the other day ajax ct wanted to play liverpool, safa said no. the city of CT wanted to host a saracens game, wprfu said no. ppa have had it easy. they do what they want. btw csa don't want the argus they just want what is due to them ito sanctioning.
  16. nice addition to the winter calendar.
  17. if the challenge is taken up there are going to be some sore bodies on Monday the public holiday.
  18. This weekend is the last event counting towards the points competition in the Winter Series. Cat 1 & 2 is being closely contested while in Cat 3, City CC have sewn up the competition but the fight for the minor places might see a few clubs swopping places. 19. the all rounders competition for the winter league is done and dusted. Stefan Ihlenfeldt of Focus pipping Alex Heward of Smith & Associates by 1 point who beat JP Jacobs by 1 point. in Cat 3 inter club young Branwill Blaauw of City CC finished in top spot from club mate Terence Shortt with Faizel Thomas of Bellville CC in third.
  20. i'm trying to figure out where on B'la'ry Rd it is. we rode up b'la'ry this am from the stelbos side.
  21. Thats The Crystal Rock in Mauritius
  22. Sitting inbetween the vineyards at today's Polkadraai Crit, Winter League 2013. Had a few down pours and a drizzle in our CAT 3 race but stayed clear most of the time for the CAT1/2 race except towards the end. Nice pics of Theuns van der Bank and Stefan Ihlenfeldt in a break, T. vd Bank broke from the gun and held it until the last lap.
  23. Next week is Gunners Grand Prix , Gunners Circle, Epping on Sunday 16 June. this is the last event where riders can score points in the Winter Series. i am confident that i can pay prize money out to the 1st five teams in Cat 1 & 2 and Cat 3 as well as to the winner of the all rounders category. unlike other bodies in the western cape, the WPCA doesn't support any charity so all monies collected from entry fees less expenses will be paid out in prize money to the cyclists.
  24. Cat 3 inter club.
