  1. The revised guidelines only address cholesterol. No new guidelines on saturated fat (yet). However, a number of recent studies have shown saturated fat has been vilified and there is no correlation between intake and issues such as CVD or cholesterol. How long before the US guidelines accept this? Could be another 30 years......
  2. Yeah, but they're not Specialized...
  3. Expert. The carbon frame is just much better looking than the ALU.
  4. Depends what others bikes you have, MTB-wise at least. My logic was because I already have a very nice Epic, the most logical addition was to get something on the other end of the scale. Thus a 650 Enduro to compliment the 29er Epic. This allows me to be equally bad at multiple different riding styles..... If you had to get one bike, I'd look at the Camber or Stumpie. Clearly the Enduro does not climb like the Epic. Just did the W2W and seriously considered taking the Enduro but glad that sanity prevailed. It would've been way too much work hauling its heavy ass up those climbs. I just tell myself the extra effort going uphill is good training and when you barrel downhill, you completely forgot about it in any case. I suspect the Epic will see much more leisure time now, especially riding the trails around Cpt.
  5. Sometimes live does not get better than having this choice. #happyaspiginshit
  6. Exactly, placebo is worth up to 15%. The most important bit about upgrading anything on your bike is to make you love it even more. And thus ride more often, faster.
  7. No, but your device knows how far it is from every satellite it can see. How else can it triangulate your position? Hint: It's all about timing. I see Strech gave an explanation above. I was just going to suggest you type in "how does a GPS calculate elevation" into Google.
  8. Of course satellites can calculate elevation. And pretty accurately as well. We just don't get the good stuff for our commercial use. A barometer gives much better accuracy with a much better granularity, for example short, sharp drops or climbs, like when you get a drop off.
  9. Thanks, definitely in the market for shoes like this. And I'll sommer use them on Day 1 of W2W walking up that bloody mountain....
  10. Any idea on availability?
  11. The mere fact that branded gear is desirable shows how well marketing works. Even if we all say we're immune.
  12. 'Preciate it, thanks!!
  13. Hi, Lost my Garmin 705 today (5 July) around 3PM in the Spruit. Think it was close to Emmarentia dam. Noticed it was gone a Km or 3 going down from the dam. Many cyclists and people walking about, so hopefully one is a hubber! The Spruit clearly not good for me. Rode it yesterday for the first time and cut my rear wheel. Had to replace the tire (BIG thumbs up to the Morningside Cycles guys who helped me first thing this morning). Now I lost my GPS. 2 rides in the Spruit = R4K
  14. Not really, the so-called 'book' value matched. That's the point of this thread, right? In another example, I swapped a mint CR250 (less than 20 hours on it, never raced) for a Scott Scale RC. And I was happy..... It's a question of supply and demand; a new craze is sweeping the world and the supply side is taking advantage of it: Charge as much as the market will bear. Business-101, I guess.
  15. Had my eye on an year-old Epic Expert. Also had a very clean (9000Km) R6 in the garage. Eventually did a direct swop. The mind boggles.....
  16. Top sports is massively competitive. It's not IF people dope (the have no choice if they want to stay competitive) but if they'll get caught. While I'm not condoning doping, it does little to distract from the sheer ability these guys have (a non-doper will kick our collective butts on his day off, doing 1-legged drills on a single speed) or the appeal of the sport. The only reason cyclists get caught more often is that testing is more stringent and frequent.
  17. Used to be heavily into biking, at some point around 13 bikes in the garage. Then got into bicycles and slowly replaced the motorbikes with bicycles. Shocking that a clean R1or R6 has the same value than a plastic bicycle! Still got 2 Virago cruisers, the obligatory GS and a DRZ400.
  18. Posted them both before in the 'Boast' thread, but they're still porn to me.
  19. Yup, I always thought the title 'broker' is quite prophetic.
  20. Unfortunately an always escalating problem for ANY organisation. The only period of sanity is in a company's early days when they truely believe they're going to do good. But it always chnge as market forces drive the process. At least it gives you a job!
