  1. Also I leave the data connection on so that my wife knows where I am at. I find hitting the the little power power saving button in the pull down menu helps quite a lot too.
  2. I can do a four hour ride with endomondo running on my Samsung S4 and the battery only goes down by about 30%
  3. Quick question - Is it wrong to say that one likes a blockbuster, super hero type movie??
  4. The thing is, what would the cops do to you anyway? We do not have licence plates on our bikes and one is not required to carry ID so they can't even be sure of your real name to write on a ticket. I knew a guy who used to hitch-hike a lot on the N3 and he got fines all the time for R40 for walking on a highway but he would just give a false name and say that he can't remember his ID number and then throw the ticket away away. He did this for years and nothing ever came of it.

yes I saw that too. I thought it was perhaps road kill from the night before like an alley cat or stray dog.

    Amashova 2013

Well, that was fantastic! My first Amashova (and also my first road race) so I started in P batch seeing as I had no seeding. Couldn't find anyone going the same pace as me so I ended up riding a 106km individual time trial and finishing in 3:42 with that head wind all the way. I had heard of people touching 100kph down fields hill in previous years but I couldn't even get to 70 the wind was howling so hard straight into me. All in all I really enjoyed it and wonder how it could have gone if I had a bunch to ride with (I think I must have spent a combined total of 10 minutes in the whole race on other peoples wheels and the rest of the time I was just passing and passing other riders.) Despite being a mtb rider primarily I must say I do quite like this roadie thing!

    Amashova 2013

Does anyone know what will be happening at the starting area of the race? At the moment the whole street is still blocked off outside the city hall between church street and longmarket street and there is still no paving laid. It was supposed to be finished by September but as usual these projects always run over time and now they say the end of October.
  10. I see he was racing under 23 in 2009 according to his facebook page so I guess he is 26 or 27 by now???
  11. Hey guys, Here is a shot I took with my Galaxy S2 soon after I got it - just kinda fooling around to see how good it was with close-ups. Perhaps I should also post it in the cellphone picture thread.
  12. I think one of the reasons Graves did so well on the second sector is that he was running single ply low rolling resistance tires front and back which would have given him a big advantage on the high speed/ pedalling sections.
  13. It's so flat there you can't really understand it until you actually see it with your own eyes. The steepest hill you ever ride up is the little ramps up onto the top of the dykes (kind of like the off-ramp of the freeway up to the bridge) Everyone always says how flat the Freestate is but compared to Holland it is like the Alps!
  14. I thought I just had a head cold for the Tourdekrantz last weekend and after 35ks (very muddy) it felt like I had ridden 135k and by the end I just wanted to go to sleep. It felt like I had only 10% of my normal power. On Sunday it turned into a moerse flu. It's a chance you take, maybe it will be nothing more than a cold but the exertion could lower your resistance and end up with something worse. In hinds sight I should have stayed home in bed....
  15. An easier way to get more than 2 or 3 percent back is just buy 1 thing less when you go shopping - no hassle, no swiping cards etc. Or just choose 1 brand over another that is slightly lower priced ie R97 v R100 then you have saved 3% wohoo!
  16. It's already happening. The Ryder spd pedals I bought about 2 months ago for R350 are now R500!!!
  17. I suppose it would be a bit odd if he did go.
  18. Is it my imagination or is he running a smaller diameter wheel on the front of the bike to improve his aero position? Maybe it is the original 650b....
  19. I never have any problems with adverts. Its a nifty little Google chrome extension called Adblock. works like a bomb!
  20. I guess my point is I've ridden up Sani pass and I know how difficult it is and how long it took. To see these guys blast up those mountains at that speed is just mind boggling. I was trying to compare that climb to something similar that I have tried.
  21. The other interesting comparison is that the summit of Mont Ventoux is at 1887m and the top of Sani pass is 2804m so the thin air is also quite a factor there. Here are the 2 segments on Strava: http://app.strava.com/segments/664838 http://app.strava.com/segments/2512457
  22. I was pondering the similarities between Ventoux for the roadies and our very own Sani pass for the mtb guys. If you compare them, Ventoux has around 1500m climbing over 20.5kms and Sani pass has around 1300m of climbing over 21kms. But then compare the lovely smooth tarmac of Ventoux to the rutted, boulder strewn gravel road with river crossings, mud etc thrown in. what do you guys think?
