I think the article said that you unclip by twisting the foot, thus compressing the spring and pushing the disks together allowing the cleat to come away from the pedal.

Is that not in fact a delivery van? Note the lack of side windows. Pretty hectic stuff, but without context it is difficult to say exactly what went down before the video was shot.
