  1. has to be a plastic bike of some sorts... will need more than that to lift 8-10kgs. a balloon with about 2.5-3m diameter.
  2. no idea. yes, sky hook possibly, or some video editing, or a foam/plastic bike. i
  3. Hehe, funny. A little useless fact to start the day off. @ 20degC Air: 1.21 kg/m3 ; Helium: 0.17 kg/m3. If balloon 1m3 will lift around 1kg. If it was 15 balloons then we were in business
  4. beyond insane! thanks for post
  5. you called ?
  6. haha, best is the guy at around 22' coming in with the flying kicks.... good laugh
  7. Marco Fontana of BH-Suntour-KMC put in a consistent effort throughout the contest and deservedly claimed third place while a gutsy Schurter eventually crossed the line in sixth position. Maxime Marotte (BH-Suntour-KMC)
  8. .

  11. Don't you think your imagination is running away a bit here ? Hehe
  12. Hehe, no. There is a hubber named Rabubi and Frantasik? Rabon is sometimes called Rabubi....
  13. Yip, yesterday was tough.... every day in the epic is tough. So your theory is that better preparation is the difference between last years drop-out rate and this year ? Or between 2013-2014 they realized stage 1 is tough ?
  14. Not holding my breath for this one. I don't think their service has the needed capacity....
  15. Who ever the technical (IT) responsible person is need to catch a wake-up! ...oh wait. It's a bit late now.
  16. The spaniard ??
  17. African jersey is going to be a great contest. My thoughts (and very subjective) - Lill-Keey : Pros - Lill in very good shape with even more experience. The team is stronger. Cons - Not sure where Keey is at compared with last year. Lill is in great shape and hopefully the stomach bug of last year stay away. Hope Keey is again in good shape, he was very strong last year. Evans-Max : Pros - Two of SA's best XCM cyclists. Evans and Knox are tough tough tough! Cons - Evans may not be as motivated as previously. Max's training was not Epic focused? Evans is hard as nails and very consistent. He knows what its about. Max is one of our best - just hope he goes in with not too little body fat... Kleinhans-Bell: Pros - Very focused and hungry to perform. Good preparation. Cons - New partners. Consistency over 8 days ? Where my thoughts are at - Lets see These guys are all so so good.
  18. There is no right answer.... only some guide lines. Most serious riders spend their entire life tweaking setup and experimenting with different frame sizes and geometries, seat height and position, stem length/drop, handle bar width/sweep, crank size. If you start out it is better to go by the geometry suggested by the manufacturer and get an objective opinion (the shop/person selling is not objective). They will ALWAYS want to sell what they have.
  19. If I could give you one tip - Sunscreen would be it..... but I can give you another, so... Based on my experience of similar situations - My opinion is the same as MH - Buy second hand and cheap and see how it goes. This is what happens - every time! 1. You like it you sell the R3000 bike for R2500 and buy something better. 2. You don't like it - 2.1 You sell the R3000 bike for R2500 and go to McDonalds for a happy meal. 2.2 It stands around as a constant reminder of your failed attempt to better yourself. 3. They steal your bike. Important - - You can score a great deal for R3000 BUT ask the right friend to help. The right friend (includes all of the below)- - Someone thats been riding for at least 5 years. - Someone that has bought a bike (for himself) 2 or more times. - Someone that owns a bike worth more than R20 000. - If you buy mountain bike then the above should all be a friend that mountain bike if road bike then road friend. Good luck. ps. If you anyone feel exclude by my advice then please send me hate mail.
  20. To me the yellow zebras team will be the stronger of Urs and Raboebi
  21. the snake thread never really took part but that thread went on for a while
  22. Yes, the hub had a different feel back then but the community has since grown. All the knowledge is still here and the people are very much the same bunch, you just have to ask and be kind. Its still like the sandpit at kindergarten, be nice and share your marbles. Biggest difference for me is the formal classifieds section and when the need for active moderation started. Both have pros and cons.... but more pros
  23. The yellow site was before my time. I remember back when Johan Boarman? used to give comprehensive service and bike tips. Detailed pics and writeups. The community wasnt small but very Cape Town centered. The hub made a massive contribution to my enjoyment of cycling. Thanks!
  24. 31 years holiday at Waenhuiskrans and never knew there were some nice trails in the area. So tired of going out to Suiderstrand, Elim and Wolvengat with the only challange being the wind and heat. Im in!
  25. very cool idea. I had another concept I thought of where you make the bed part of the ceiling and you pull it down when you want to sleep... will look like a light box when the bed is raised.
