  1. Yah,Yah,..... no cyclists is ever wrong,........ we just jump lights and stop streets, ride 3 or more abreast, do two laps at the argus, show the bird, ride on highways (the R59 is a prime example) dont wear helmets, enter races without paying and ride without lights. Yesterday at 5pm I was on my way back from Parys along the R59 and trucks and cars were dodging about 20 cyclists on the Highway before the Nampack turnoff, I hooted and got the usual finger showing - who cares, I hope a 38 wheeler takes them out, of course then it will be here as a terrible tradegidy and a memorial ride will be suggested - I wont be there.! When all cyclists stick to the rules, come complain, I am not saying you dont, not at all, just collectively cyclists are a shocking example of law abiding citizens and when we get into trouble.........................gosh, those awefull motorists.!!! Go ahead flame away, I could care less.! porky2009-01-15 08:33:15
  2. **sigh**.........I had good service, I had bad service, I got served quickly, I got no service, My bike was badly serviced, My bike was well serviced..................we could go on forever, for every post that has a negative, there will be a poster with a positive, its just ridiculous, the original post was not enquiring if you had good service, it was simply stating his issue. It seems everybody here has lots of advice, go ask, do this, leave whatever, ....................why the advice, the op didnt ask your advice or opinion, he stated his experience, why cant you just accept he had a bad experience and express sympathy if nothing else.?? These posts go on and on and on and on saying nothing in particular, and just degenerate into a "me" and "them" argument - ridiculous.!
  3. If riding with your friends, wife, girl friend / boy friend, the vibe etc is so important, ride with them on the first lap. The rule says "no second circuit" why cant you respect that.? As for not drinking the first time round theory, thats just plain ignorant, you get one chance to eat as many bar ones as you can drink as much coke etc as you can ON THE FIRST ROUND, its not held over for you for later, you get one shot and thats it.
  4. First-hand and repeated experience like this is useful. I'll give you my interpretation and tell me if my assumptions are right. 1) The interface is rigid and doesn't "pump" water. You don't say if you apply the coppaslip to bolts or two other interfaces. I assume whatever it is' date=' they remain fixed against each other and don't move. In contrast, a seatpost is a dynamic joint. It is clamped at the top only and sitting, pedalling and road bumps cause the unclamped part to move in the seat tube and mix the grease and water into an emulsion. My guess is that your interface doesn't do that and even if there is water intrusion it never turns the compound into an emulsion. Just a guess. 2) Secondly, I guess that these components are robust and can take a bit of force when disassembling. Not much, but more than the shear strength of the copper. The fact is that seatposts are problematic whether you apply compound or not and I am leaning towards a dry fit for the reasons explained above.[/quote'] 1)Yes, its basically a steel tube thats internally threaded on either end, an aluminium threaded end cap (male) with an o-ring then simply screws down to seal the tube. The seperated water is released by taps. As the trap can hold anything from 100 -500 ml or more of water and is pressurised by air we often find the water has been forced (leaked) down into the threads (prevented from escaping by the o-ring) where it lies and causes heavy corrosion, without coppaslip the corrosion just makes it almost impossible to seperate the two after a few months. As you mention there is no movement, its all very static. 2)Yah, as its aluminium and I have seen a few threads just peel off due to the corrosion, one has to be a bit carefull, but generally one can apply a fair amount of pressure. Certainly a lot more than I would feel comfortable with applying to a seat post. Makes sense mate, thanks.
  5. /QUOTE] In short' date=' anti-seize compounds work where water doesn't play a role and where it can do its job of preventing steel on steel from friction-welding . [/quote'] Hmm, I hear what you are saying, but we use coppaslip when we reassemble air/water seperators and traps - if we dont, they never come undone, and this is in a moist enviroment.? Fair enough its not carbon, but often the fastening is between aluminium and steel. If it works here, why not on a seatpost? Not testing your theory mate, just a wondering.? porky2009-01-09 12:58:33
  6. I like Cunego, although he has never produced another grand tour result like his Giro win, he is a very consistant race winner and unlike some others has stayed the course at Lampre through thick and thin, consistant in all respects,.... I like that!!.
  7. To be fair to Wimpie, the cost of the service was not an issue, and why always looking for holes in the post, he said it cost R1000.00 - R2000.00 so why cant some people just accept that? When I take my car or motorbike or even cycle for a service I look at the bottom line and to me thats the service cost, must Wimpie now say I service my bike and the breakdown is as follows.............?? Why? To him it costs X amout, thats it........... what was replaced or serviced is immaterial.! Dagnab it guys, the issue was poor or no service, not the costs he is prepared to pay.!
  8. Well, there Ya go, my faith in Avnic is restored ? Just kidding, I have always had superb assistance from them.
  9. Not too bad, Ill look. Thanks.
  10. Almost all racers wear the Leatt type neck brace' date=' its the same sort of concept as the HANS device the race car drivers use.... no-one uses them on the road though... [/quote'] I wonder why not, surely its adding an extra level of protection, especially on long rides? Ya, dunno... I'd try it on my commute, but at the cost of the thing, not right now... I also scoot around on my Kawasaki every now and then, but I have never seen this thing, I may be interested, are they sold here and what sort of cost, do you know.? One of the reasons I read the article was because I was looking for a new helmet, strangely enough the manufacturer of the helmet I fancied, didnt rate too highly although here they are very popular, (or so I hear).

  12. The stats were in the article, its a few years old, 2006 I think, but the stats were there. I cant remember them exactly, I will check tonight if I remember, but I think the stats clearly showed lives were saved by helmet wearing motor cyclists - I dont have stats on cyclists. Oddly enough, many deaths were also caused by neck injuries and now its also quite common to see motorcyclists in the States wearing a specific neck protector, according to the article, these were primarily designed for enduro cyclists, but have found a huge market in the normal average motorcyclist as well. Dont know if anyone wears them here, I have never seen them.! porky2009-01-06 03:38:33
  13. iI suppose slightly off topic, but I was reading an article on motorcycle helmets the other day and the concensus was that "not all helments are equal" even if they all carried the same TUV or similar rating. The suggestion was that the ratings are really so low that its quite easy for a manufacturer to submit even a modest hemlet and have it rated, but that said cost was also an issue, in tests they found the most expensive helmets (top of the range) were not that much (if any) better (protection wise) than the really modest economy ranges, and that the cost was mostly in the art work, a more plush interior and advertising.! Now I wonder if there has ever been a test done on cycling helmets?? I mean we all wear one, but who is to say that 3k one is any better than the R200.00 one at the local supermarket, they all have some sort of rating, (or my understanding is it cant be sold) - so how do we decide which one is better protection wise?? Cost?? - I cant go with this theory, too much hype and bulls**t involved, Ratings - well they are only a basic standard, Brand name - Maybe? - cos Lance or Chris wears it - ???? - maybe if you are a yank!!, shops reccomendation - - we all know that means squat and changes with his stock levels - so how do we decide?? Lets hear.!
  14. I just feel that by cancelling the order Konaman, nobody wins.! I agree its a poor show, but Hey, we all make mistakes, sometimes they can be easily fixed and everyone gos away feeling fine, sometimes it more difficult and requires a bit of "give and take" sometimes its just plain impossible. I would have negotiated with them, tell them you were unhappy and ask for compensation in the form of something, a discount, a free map or training programme, an upgrade or just ask for compensation and leave it up to them. Dont be afraid to ask, you may be surprised at the answer, just keep it civil and polite. By cancelling you only get your money back but you are still frustrated about the issue, I understand your reluctance toaccept the product but turn it to your advantage if you can,if not, well then cancell.! porky2009-01-06 02:29:25
  15. Yeah I know, just kidding - good luck getting a "Nappi code" and the relevant "skin approvals" for that - you gonna need big cahoonies and a very patient negotiator.
  16. No, it all depends on what the offer to purchase says. If it states its INCLUDING / EXCLUDING VAT then the estate agent MUST be registered for VAT - ask your attorney to check with SARS if in doubt. If the estate agent is NOT registered for VAT the commission will be nett and the offer to purchase will reflect this. However this is not your problem to control, your transfering attorney dos all this for you, they pay off the bond, pay the commissions as per the Offer to purchase, pay the councils etc and you get whats left.! porky2009-01-05 03:40:37
  17. Ummmm, Muxman, the idea is NOT to get red and burnt Once that happens the damage is done skin cancer wise. ...but yeah, I am sure it beats a hot bath - ouch.!
  18. Porky' date=' XERODERM SPF 35 is the one I forgot to apply to my pate!!!!!!!! It works and doesnt not burn like hell when you start going downhill and the sweat blows into your eyes.[/quote'] Haa,Haa, Yeah good stuff, we must use the same dermy.!!
  19. Well, I see today some things have come down, our switchboard bombed between the holidays sometime so I called the technicians out today, usually charge R250.00 TRAVELLING FEE today its R220.00?? . I was also pondering the cost of aviation fuel on my flight home from Cape Town as well, when I booked SAA was quick to tell me the price was going up because of the high cost of fuel, but I looked again today and its MORE now - even though fuel is much lower - but then I guess they are in such a financial mess, and what with all the bonus payments the CEOs demand its to be expected.
