If you don't intend flying with your bike again, then go for a cardboard box, most bike shops will give you one. Just make sure to use plenty of padding around the frame and re-enforce the corners of the box with lots of duct tape. Pedals and bar off, seatpost dropped and tyres deflated. Secure everything well so nothing can rattle and chafe.
Any recommendations for lightweight meals, either the boil-in-bag or just-add-water option....don't want to carry pots around....meateater but will tolerate grass occasionally...
OK!!! So the crossing where the Krom River goes into the Matjies River is flooded? How bad is it, I mean is it restorable or is that it for that section and detour is now permanent?

Excellent! I see the Wupperthal to EselBank is also closed according to that report so that shuts down the big climb loop suggested by @BuffsVintageBikes....hoipefully all will be back to normal by Sept/Oct!!!!🤞

Jaaaa!!😁 Nothing against WAS and it's a great production, all of their stuff is great but those okes had a car follow them, basically no gear and glamped all the way...nice if you can coax the SO to do this!😆 Not gonna happen.
