  1. Perspective.... so these are the straight carbon handles....they are OK but the angle does put a bit of strain on the wrists over a long drag as your wrists are extended forward to grip them, so I have swapped them out for the ones with the up-turned ends. PS an added benefit is that they really activate the suspension of the Redshift stem because of the increased "lever" length they give to the fulcrum at the stem mount...with no tribars the "lever" length is only to the outer edge of the brake levers maximum...now its double and the dampening from the suspension in the stem is so much more active! Oh and risers are a must if you not a tri athlete in full race mode for aero gains...for me anyway...I found having no risers quite tiring and you will find out about seat position and your pubic bone as well as muscles you never knew you had in the first few k's!!!! I got 60mm which is much better...the 75's would be best... PPS because they are so solid they can also support a barbag underneath and all sorts of gadgets as you can see! Garmin Edge 1040S, drone remote, camera remote, ICE ID.... Apologies for poor audio in vid attached but you'll get my drift! Aerobars!.mp4
  2. Eish...soon soon....
  3. I saw these earlier while looking for the right bars but they are too short for my liking.... and PS tribars in and around town/traffic, pedestrians etc etc...nah...be VERY wary.....

  5. Travel to George (base camp!) on 4th, start early 5th Jan...
  6. Quick Update: Route is firm as per Post #1. Montagu pass is gonna be rof! According to Entry Ninja???...Knysna Toyota 7Passes MTB is running on 3rd Jan so assuming that route is all clear.... Dates will be from 5th Jan to whenever.. Accommodation all sorted, 5 stops planned (4 tented, 1 cottage) Gear sorted...(keen to try my new Durston X Dome 2!) Let's go!
  7. Saw your DC footage, great stuff!!!...did you keep the Lens protectors on? Not sure how you mounted it but there have been some fails (X5) with the out-front mount on bikes...!!! Better to use the Utility Frame for solid mounts like this.....😩
  8. Cool edit!!! Well done!
  9. Thanks! I seen some videos on that De Vlugte area...looks idyllic!
  10. So planning is starting...still looking for George accommodation for start... It does not look like there's much along the Paardepoort Road from the N9 up to Dysseldorp, so a wild camp may be in order... Some spots I have seen: Hazeljacht Karoo Adventures Leeublad Daskop Farm Eagle Falls Cloud Cottage or thereabouts Anything at De Vlught...difficult one as its kinda in between legs but I see some good write-ups on spots there at the cross road (Ou Doc, Plaaskind, Angies, Outenique Mountain Lodge, Dana se Vrede(fishing advertised in this area...it's on the upper Keurbooms, near the confluence with the Kwaai..may be worth taking my gear!) Diepwalle Varykinjo Estate If anyone has any comments on these are any other spots, let me know Aim is for about 50-60km/day so not too hectic...sightseeing! Here we go!
  11. There you go...ja as long as you careful, you'll get clear footage...I have X5 and only used protectors once, footage was ruined by smudges and lens flares...the original lenses are pretty tough and easy to keep clean, a quick wipe on a clean, dry sleeve before recording...the issue is the lens protectors are so big, they are really hard to keep clean especially down at the edge and then smudges there ruin the stitch line....have fun!
  12. That looks like the X4.... I would remove those lens protectors...if they are not 1000% clean, they will leave artifacts on your footage especially with low sun angles ie...better to be really careful with lens exposed...also replacement lenses are available for the X4...just saying...
  13. That is the icon for a light...I'm not sure if it applies for any generic light or just Garmia Varia lights I have the UL800 headlight and RCT 715 Rear Light/radar...but I only have the datafield active when the lights are connected. It looks like a field on your data screen that is linked to the light but no idea why it's still displaying when the light is disconnected...do you physically switch off the light or just let it sleep via settings?......you can activate sleeping units when you start an activity and link the lights to come on at a specific speed....could be this still showing status if light is sleeping...and not hard off. I use a separate page in my activity profile that uses a data field from IQ Connect Store written by maca88 that is pretty useful to control light settings: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/0d9fd828-c932-4470-9c37-fd2828881888 If you read his GitHub site there is a way to customize the data via a light configurator...

    Qatar

My opinion: I been in Doha for near on 17 years (OK not permanently relocated but rotate every few months) and have Qatar Residence permit (QID)...since the days it was really trying hard to stay afloat and relevant with the explosion of growth in Dubai...then came the World Cup and Doha has emerged from its ugly duckling status into a pretty pleasant place to be ...given my situation anyway.. A great Metro, major highways have improved traffic flows around Doha, growing cycling community, cycle paths also growing, beaches now in town instead of miles away! Great hotels with waterholes, a local supplier for pork and alcohol (if you have a QID), 6 star airport, central for getaways to Europe and Far East, Maldives is only 6 hrs away, literally worth it for a long weekend...Dubai is 50 mins if you really want to go to the circus...(OK Dubai does have fantastic beaches!!! and some awesome riding but the traffic is MENTAL!!!)...politically stable although the last few months have shown that no-one is immune to instability! But overall very safe.... Big expat community, with lots of Saffers... Weather is what it is, no different to any other place in Middle East, prime for only a few months, then hotashell the rest, there's no getting around it but its catered for, there's even a new island with outdoor A/C, I kid you not! Giwan Island residence has an open air pedestrian promenade that is fully A/C! PS I commute to work every day when I am here, there are water stops and as long as you keep moving, and don't have far to go....55degs is not a problem! There's a 33km "olympic" cycle track, actually it's a bicycle highway, with its own bridges and tunnels and lit up all night, where a lot of guys train, big peletons screaming up and down...can get quite hairy! Availability of cycle gear is improving, spares can sometimes be difficult but international online ordering is good. It is expensive...everything, especially going out for meals, drinks, that sort of thing, same for good accommodation, you are gonna bleed! Hit me up if you need more info.....I'm there now...
  20. Cool...I'm trying to stay off main roads, aiming for early Mid Dec or Early Jan.....
  21. Long wait!...😔
  22. Great, thanks, ja that could be a bit tricky...I'll mark it on my map! BTW on Ride With GPS, the section between Diepwalle past Gouna and ending near Simola is called Kom Se Gat...correct?
