  1. I used Crede's deflavoured oil for a long time until they developed issues with the consistency and smell of that range, then switched to their regular CO and I will never go back to anything else. The regular oil just "feels" more nutritious, it may be my imagination playing a role though, but I would avoid RBD if I was you.
  2. Good to hear ! Droƫwors, biltong, salami all make good savoury snacks so those are my go-to options if I feel peckish !
  3. Daai hond lyk nogal na jou....
  4. Thanks, I make and store mine in nice large consol glass jars, so my question was around the straining. I imagine the sieve I have must be pretty inert as it hasn't shown any rust in years, so I will use that, rather than the plastic veggie strainer thingy which tends to clog up quite quickly. @Dirtbreath - You HAVE to leave the kefir out of the fridge to do its work, as putting it in the fridge effectively deactivates it and puts the kefir grains into "storage mode". The fermentation happens so quickly that the milk won't go off. Also think about how this stuff is traditionally made - in bladders made from animal skins, hanging in doorways so that when people bump into it as they go through the door, the mixture is stirred up.
  5. Do any of you use a normal metal strainer for you kefir - there's some literature to suggest that it may be detrimental to the kefir and that one should only use plastic or glass ?
  6. Read Dietdoctor's post about Coke Zero or Pepsi Zero - they artificial sweeteners in there are so good that they trick your body into thinking you have consumed sugar, so what happens is your ketones drop and your insulin may also marginally increase. In essence, fat burning stops.... so try and stop all "sodas" for a week and see what happens ?
  7. Those BG and HBA1c values are high, so if I was you I would invest in a BG meter - that way you can keep track of your BG on a daily level to understand exactly what is causing your BG to be that high. Dont wait for an annual BG test, it is the easiest parameter to control and if you cannot control it through diet, something like Glucophage should put you in control in a few short days. Please speak to a doctor or cardiologist who knows something about LCHF if you can, otherwise they will simply put you on statins to get that cholesterol number as low as possible. If need be, email Prof Noakes, but I would not worry about those numbers at all, since your HDL is nice and high (above 1.0 is great). The trigs appear to be a little high though, but it may be a spike that you are going through, so try to have the trigs done monthly to see if they track down ? Please keep posting progress !
  8. I am copying the William Davis "Wheat the UNHealthy Grain" and 14 other videos related to LCHF and Paleo to the Google drive - it may take a while as my ADSL is crawling at the moment...
  9. Three Dog Night (Most of you are probably too young to remember them !)
  10. Two weeks on a training course away from home - much as I tried I could not control my diet simply due to the fact that I was part of a group that had lunch and dinner together. On the weekends I stayed with either my carb-loving family or a vegetarian friend. Many of the lunches consisted of either pizza, tramezinni or sandwhices and although I tried to grab only those that contained fatty fillings, I paid the price. By the first weekend I had developed a distinct rash on my face - something that my brother gets as well, but he called it a "winter rash". I put two and two together and figured it was from the wheat, cut all the wheat in the second week and three days later the rash was gone! I picked up 1.5kg in the first 9 days, but by simply avoiding wheat and by supplementing my breakfast with good doses of full cream, I managed to run a slightly better Fat : Carbs ratio and I am now 2kg down. Admittedly I was eating very little in the end, but I could no longer live with the side effects like the rash, like the energy dips and just not feeling on top of the world. I also stopped drinking coffee altogether in week 2 and I think that also made a huge difference in my energy levels being more constant - and even in the weight situation maybe. Much as I planned for this trip, several things happened that I could not comfortably get around : the fact that we ate together as a group made my situation quite uncomfortable and it would have appeared rude if I insisted on eating my own food. My vegetarian friend cannot stand the smell of cooked meat so even though I took ample meat (frozen) with me, I wasn't able to cook it. My family, in spite of being quite aware of my dietary preferences, insisted on eating ultra high carb while I was there, almost as if they were trying to prove to me that I had it wrong and they had it right. Anyways, it is good to be home and to be able to focus on a more healthy way of eating again. My weight is now continuing to track down, so I am going to keep that momentum going. I thought I'd share this with you as we have discussed the short stay trips and how you get around that, but this proved to be quite another challenge ! Have a great day !
  11. Converted Fathead to divx format (download the decoder/player if you don't have it) and that is now about 800MB, it is in the folder. Let me know if there are other relevant and interesting doccies that you know about, and I will download and copy to the folder.
  12. Fathead the Movie has copied, but I only noticed now that I am home that the reason for the slow copy is because the movie is 2.2GB big. I will try to convert it down to a much smaller mp4 later today and copy that across, but for those with enough bandwidth, it is on the drive and worth a watch - a good chuckle and it shows that Supersize Me had a completely different agenda that what is purported to be.
  13. I have oodles of night-time data available so if need be will download "proper" copies if they exist and put on the Google drive.
  14. Movies are taking a lot longer to copy to Google drive than anticipated - when it gets really wet in Cape Town (as it is at the moment), my internet speed takes a nose dive. Food Inc and Supersize Me have copied, I hope that Fathead and Generation Rx will get across overnight.
  15. None... usually. But in the last two weeks, about 4 a day, only with full cream milk though. Coffee has a distinct BG raising effect in me, so DaleE if you suspect it is the coffee, you may be right. I have "normalised" my diet as much as I can, being away from home for 2 weeks, and noticed in the last few days that I have been getting these energy dips throughout the day. Only when I started replying to this did the penny drop that those dips come about an hour after the coffee....
  16. There's an expiry date on the bottle, but as long as you keep it in moderate conditions it should last long enough for you to buy in bulk. I am still using oil I bought last year.
  17. LCHF File Share on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9eZXQXPw2z_RnJTcVRRQzVxWE0&usp=sharing All the docs have copied, the documentaries may take a day or two to copy across. (The doccies could not be copied to Dropbox due to running out of space, so sorry for that). @Francois, could you perhaps pin this to the first page of the thread, please ?
  18. Liquid at 24 degrees.... Which means it is still solid in my neck of the woods...
  19. If you know what is good for you.... Relocate now !
  20. Use Crede's pricing as a guide
  21. Nah, I think they realised you need more space for all your training stats...
  22. Ok, just opened a Rapidshare account with 5GB space, but will only get to copying the stuff across after the weekend when I get home. Watch this space !
  23. I need some advice re the sharing folder - the Dropbox folder is now almost at its 2.2GB limit. Does anyone know if any of the other file sharing sites provide more free storage ? My (Telkom) internet link was very slow last night, so the two movies are still copying... Please just be a little bit patient, they should finish copying during the day.
