  1. Stop making this an ad hominem argument dude. I could just as well ask you what have you done. This is about my absolute disagreement with riders submitting to this, and for clubs to think they represent all of the riders out there. Simple. Now grow up pal and argue like a man. Calling me names doesn't mean a thing.
  2. Hey, my opinion on the way San Parks operates is different to yours. The truth though is seen in the way they handle Tokai, the way they deal with crime hotspots on the hill etc. etc etc. Rob might be a stand up guy, that's not the dispute. The issue is in him wanting riders to disclose all of the spots they ride, so he can hand a list of these spots over to the park. What's the plan? Riding doesn't need to be about clubs and meetings. Some of us just go out and ride. I completely disagree with the idea of submitting this info over, and I absolutely feel that these clubs do not represent all mountain users. Feel free to your views.
  3. If by 'meaningful' you mean tell you where we are riding on the hill, then I don't have anything to contribute.
  4. It will be even worse. They will start doing an "Environmental Impact Plan", based on these areas. Then they will let this drag out for a year/s, all the while stringing this "Forum" of riders along, with an end result similar to Tokai, but worse, because there's no money to steal from taxpaying riders and populace who this mountain belongs to, so it will be easier to apply a formal ban. Seriously. What's the point of all of this 'process'? To me, it looks like a bunch of guys who love sitting in meetings discussing minutes and who's going to bring biscuits. I went to your site Rob. Doesn't inspire much. The minutes of your last meeting are not up either. I suppose another meeting to discuss the spelling/wording is in order? Rob, you still havn't answered my question: what do you gain from this exercise?
  5. Also, sorry to say this, but just because you started a club, does not mean you speak for all who ride the hills.
  6. I have a problem with people doing things on behalf of others. Good luck with your painful quest, but I hope you don't end up just giving them a list of all the places people ride and messing up trails that have been there for some time (with no impact on anyone, and a few who ride them). I won't be giving any info, and I hope the other riders think twice as well. I'm saying all of this because another sport that I dearly love has had the exact same process happen. It went from one tiny area of concern, then some over-zealous process loving individuals opened up a can of worms that sees most if not all areas coming under the spotlight. Please answer my questions in my previous post. Thanks
  7. Yeah don't believe that. They don't know themselves. To the OP: please outline the motive, benefit and purpose of this quest you are on. Really, how do you see this effort helping riders in the long run? I've been riding in these hills for over ten years and am yet to meet these park rangers, nor see any development towards riding.
  8. I'm not playing this game with TMNP and if you think it's worthwhile, you go for it. The parks have done very little for MTB over the years. I'm certainly NOT going to tell anyone where some of the trails are on this range. Many of them have been kept secret for years and years, and I feel they should stay that way. For some of us, quite a bit of blood and sweat went into making them too. First lets see the singletracks being built on the trails below the cableway, since these were supposedly on the cards a while back. Let's see something from their side first. The parks are full of promises, with very little delivery. We have to worry about security too. Bottom line though, if the parks don't know about the trails built in their areas, then it means they are not patrolling there, which means that they will do stuff all to upkeep them, and actually will try to fine riders with passion for exploring.
  9. What a bs attitude. We don't have to have competed in the Olympics to have an opinion about this crybaby. I lost the tiny bit of respect I had for him with this little outburst. He lacks leg speed. The winner got more strides in. What a bad sport and sore loser. No ways should he be allowed to run against able bodied runners. Pretty soon we'll have more of these runners in our Olympic line ups. It nowhere near a level playing field. Oscar is a twat. Fact Quick edit: needed to add: Oscar is a douche
  10. who cares? it's his head, his choice. Quite being so self righteous.
  11. Hey guys, apologies for offending some of you. It's really sad that this man died because of a pothole. It's equally sad that we are being forced to perform road repair ourselves as our civil servants have let us down. I am always concerned for civil liability when it comes to doings things on behalf of everyone else. It's pragmatic to rather do these things in silence. That is true heroism. OP, if you were looking for a pat on the back there are races to be won. Again, I apologise if I came across in a callous fashion and as a father myself, I feel very sad for this man's family.
  12. Clearly, those of you attacking me here have no regard for the laws and the way things are meant to work. When a clump of this tar flicks up and goes through an oncoming car's windscreen, killing the driver, it will be one of you "tjops" who caused it. This website is a great case study for the level of mentality within the cycling 'community', which in general, looks quite bleak actually. Mostly a bunch of spoilt brat, racist, religious freaks with nothing better to do than sit on a BB all day. haha. Good luck to yourselves.
  13. That's such BS. SA has excellent roads, some of the best. Here's a fact: roads get potholes. Civilians are not allowed to perform road repairs or modifications. SO roadies are crying because when they ride in bunches, illegally hogging the road and not riding in the cycle lane, they crash in the potholes????
  14. I don't applaud the guys at all. Who are they to make a decision on behalf of everyone else. Cyclist should stay in the cycling lane, not go ahead with a bag of tar and a spade and fix things themselves. The council will have a repair schedule with a priority list. The positions of these potholes are a low level risk to cars as they are well out of the wheel path. SA has some excellent roads and this doesn't from nothing being done. This little repair these boys have done won't last a single storm, and in fact will cost the taxpayer more as the repair will first need to be dug out. Waste of time, but again, TYPICAL of the selfishness that roadies keep on displaying.

    Wheelie

Depends what kind of birds, but normally seed impresses them most. Bigger birds, like geese or ducks just love a slice of old bread.
  16. Actually, it's illegal to do what these fellas have done. Fixing a pothole requires more than just a bag of tar. There is a process to it and some heavy equipment needed to properly set the tar in place. Hopefully nothing happens further, but if for instance, an accident is caused by this illegal repair, these cyclist will be liable. It's very sad that this cyclist lost his life. What were they doing outside of the cycle lane though?
  17. I don't think you'll see your money or panniers again. His excuses are feeble. Part of the problem you are having is from your side though. You should always insist on a phone number and make a call to the seller before proceeding. Emails can be faked, a quick, frank call is harder. Also, pay with your credit card so that when you have this problem, you can report the fraud and they will reimburse you.
  18. so selfish, but that's roadies for you
  19. agreed. wait till summer and it'll be back to business as usual for the crooks on the hills. right now they're stocking up on tik, smashing car windows in Kenilworth. Big groups is the key.
  20. All very well except that the guys says his bike is his pride and joy. Why then doesn't he have serial numbers, photos of the bike (detailed) and receipts himself? While you still have your possesions, take some decent photos of them, write down the SN and keep it safe. ALL parts have serial numbers, and if they don't, make up your own and engrave it then photograph it. Macdaddy, you should be more careful if you have a family that depends on you. Double think your actions. Every single one.
  21. I always got decent service and parts/prices from Linden Cycles. (when I used to live in Joburg). One of the better bike shops in that smelly ANC run hovel of a town.
  22. I've read everything I possibly can find on it. But I'm not the one making uninformed arguments here. You are. This isn't about me. If you choose a juvenile approach to debate, there is no point in continuing here.
  23. How can you even be arguing here? Seriously. How do you have any idea what was tested or concluded if you have not read all of the test sheets and data? You are allowing your emotions and patriotism to cloud your view of the real facts here. There is nothing wrong with being a proud South African here, but face the fact with a clear, informed stance before you head into a debate.
  24. bwahahaha!
