I looked at the triathlon saddles but actually ended up tilting my saddle angle pointing down ..its a cut out saddle so now my rear but bones rest on the saddle ...it takes a little getting used to but I've now ridden like that for over 4 years so feels normal to me .all the best  .H

I'm assuming you had the op as well. I actually did that this morning ...it looks hilarious but it definitely seems to help. I do think I will need to get a new saddle though ..mine is ancient and I don't think it has ever been quite right for me, it just never bothered me to the extent it does now ....

  2. So here I am on the other side of a robotic radical prostatectomy. This particular nightmare started last year when I was diagnosed with Gleason 7 prostate cancer. The op seems to have fixed the cancer issue for which I am eternally grateful. My prayers go out to those who are not so lucky.  First test was clear. Hopefully it stays that way. Unfortunately the op has left my body somewhat different everyone who has this op has a different experience. My post op experience wasn't great and it is only now after 3 and a half months that I am starting to feel like a human being again. The pain in my bits was absolutely horrible never mind the incontinence and I was wondering if things would ever come right. It's been quite a rough ride so to speak. I still have extremely severe ED as well and hope that comes right soon, unfortunately I had a bad reaction to the meds for the ED so I am still trying to figure that one out. Every week or so I try sit on my bike and see if things are ready and if the pain in the perineum is gone to an extent that I can ride my bike again which I am desparate to do although pre op I hadn't been riding much it's when you lose the ability to do something that it really hits you. This morning I actually got as far as riding a few metres so I am almost there ..thing is I think things have changed and I need a new saddle that supports me better in places that won't cause pain and leakage. My questions is : is there any way I can find out what will work for me, are there any people on this forum who have been through this op etc and how did they remedy the problem. Who is a good person to get advice from about this ....all bearing in mind that financially I am trashed from the combination of covid which totally did me over and going through this cancer crap.

  3. you can convert pretty much anything to tubeless, so yes.

Tubeless rim tape - about R50 (or R600 for 65m on CWCycles, but that is enough for maybe 25 or 30 wheels). Best here is to ask your LBS if they will tape them for you? Or keep it and use it later.

You can probably use your existing tyres too. I've ridden non-tubeless tyres for years with Stans inside. But inflating might need a compressor to get them seated the first time.

    use youtube for techniques :)

Thanks for the advice I'll get some rim tape and have a bash at it ...but I need to get new tyres as the ones on the bike are not great anymore ...

  4. No you cannot convert to tubeless.... if you want to go tubeless I recommend this...

the new Cannondale Scapel SI hiMod

    EDIT:

    Apparently they can

Thanks for the link ...I will need to get tyres the small block eights that are on the bike are old and worn ....sigh the mission to find a set of 26inch tubeless tyres that don't bankrupt me when I'm already bankrupt from this stupid Corona crap is going to be quite a thing ...

That Cannondale looks like it will cost a spot more than some Stan's and some rimtape????????????

  6. Well I took the bike to stokes suspension works and asked for advice etc and promptly went mad ...I am getting and ardent for the back and a minion for the front both 2.4 the widest possible for the bike ???????? then we discovered that the wheel needs to be dished then we found the wheel slightly out of true then I decided to get them to clean up the bill oh well at least I've got a few days to rob a bank or sell the wheels off my car or something ????????????...oh and no one who knows me shall ever know what I spent if anyone does find out I will have to kill them ...???????????? Anyway looking really looking forward to getting the bike back and going up Tokai for the first time since the fires ... Speaking of which how does it work with riding there these days? How much is it where do you pay etc etc

  8. Thanks I've had it Jim for a long time it's been thrashed up and down Tokai many a time and as for the Mavic wheels that was a bit of a mad upgrade they were probably more than what the bike was worth????????(oh and never shall the wife find out what they cost????????????) but oh how they changed the whole dynamic of the bike it's weight was massively reduced and Handling completely changed as a result ..it was a lot faster than my skills that's for sure ..it'll be fun getting back in the saddle .. I'm get the tyres sorted then take it for a spin then see what else needs to be done .. shouldn't be much .. hopefully...

    VERY nice bike !!

We have the exact bike. Hoping Maritz can go straight from the 24'' to this bike .... as soon as he can manage the stand-over height .... Absolutely nothing on the market at the moment with the same quality of components, in the small sizes ....

  9. I think that's what I'm going to do try find some chaoyongs for a good price I'm not bothered if they are 2.1 or 2.2 ...so the hunt begins... Tbh I don't think I'm going to have much of a choice given my crappy budget and the fact my bike is virtually an extinct dinosuar...

That looks like a really well put together decently specced bike of its time.

The Crossmarks are probably not as bad as us guy's who like to think we can shread make them out to be. They are the tyre of choice for some of the older guys in my area who have also done Cape Epics, Wines2Whales and other big races on them, these guys do take it much easier than me though. In my experience with our terrain I've learnt that on our slate rock banks most tyres dont hold up as well as the Crossmarks strength wise but if you hit anything loose over hardpack, or wet and muddy they don't really grip well.

If you can get those Chaoyang's for cheaper I'd go for them if I were you.

  10. I've been off the hub for a few years and decided to come back today ..imagine I'm in gym on the stationary bike reading this thread listening to Soundgardens The Day I tried to live.... Well I'm almost in tears .... bursting into tears in the middle of gym is not very seemly... I never knew the guy but remember his posts and humour from way back even after all this time away ..A belated RIP...

  11. Hmm you guys putting me off the crossmarks ..I'm going to have a closer look at the chaoyongs but really there's not much in the way of decent budget 26 tyres left on the market is there ..I used to have some fancy Kendall tyres on the bike before I got the monorails and they were brilliant off road but pretty shocking on the road which didn't really bother me since I didn't ride much on the road ..I forget what they were called though... The bike was faster on gravel than on tar it was truly amazing....

Forgot about the Chaoyang brand, I have a set of their road tyres on my roadie, good value for money IMHO.

They should be more than fine if your getting into the swing of things again. In fact 2 brothers I know who are not exactly front field guys but do the Cape Epic, the Wines2Whales and similar big races every year have been running Chaoyang on their Spark RC's for the past two years and have had very little problems with these tyres.

Would personally also opt for these over the Crossmarks for better grip, preferably the Zippering as I like the tread pattern on them as apose to the Hornet, however I think you only get the Hornet in 26, still maybe better than Crossmark.

The Crossmark is a very strong(heavy) hardy tyre but offers very little grip wise hence Myles's post about your face.

  12. I think not being on a bike for nearly 4 years is more likely to result in a damaged face...????????

Are they that bad? The old ones are monorail and they seemed ok ..please bear with me I'm like a noob all over again ..can't believe how much has changed in only a few years ...26ers seem to be virtually extinct ????

  13. Like Vetseun said your LBS, most people are so indoctrinated by ths "26er is dead" stories that they don't even bother to look at their LBS first, rather rush off to the internet cause the internet knows everything.

On the other hand the Maxxis Crossmark is probably the best stocked and cheapest 26er tyre available at LBS's at the moment and then comes the next complaint "can't you get something wider than 2.1 and with better grip than the horrible Crossmark?" But then they don't want to pay upwards of R700 for what else is available.

So in conclusion follow the above advice regarding the Maxxis tyres from stoked or get a fatbike.....

all seems pretty reasonable advice and I will probably just get crossmarks it's not like I'm planning to conquer the world or anything.. the current tyres tread is not bad but the tyres seem to be delaminating ... One thing I cannot justify is a new bike ..A. there is nothing really wrong with my old goose 26er cept maybe the front forks seem a bit soft but it's got nice wheels and gears etc .. and I'm not a big bloke so I don't need a huge bike it fits me just fine.

  14.

I hear you, gone from riding 4 or 5 times a week to twice a month.

    Blackhill is legal.

Drive over Ou Kaapse Weg past Longbeach Mall and through the traffic lights onto Blackhill Road. The Trail is on the right around 800 meters past the lights.[/quote

requires a permit? Maybe when silver mine is open then maybe worth the cost of the permit?? I do know that I'm in for a shock when I do ride again

..a tad different to the stationery bike at gym ha ha .

so a good ride... up Ou Kaapse Weg silver mine. .. Ou wapad down to black hill out at Glen cairn tootle along main road to kalk bay coffee then home along boys drive ...well that would be a fine way to kill a day
