  1. here goes ...a jogger is not a vehicle so should not be in the road ....????? As much as everyone hates us cyclists we are actually allowed to use the road ......do I now also need a flamesuit??
  2. Good to know what cassette are you using I've just read that one shouldnt use steel cassettes with ally hubs the mavics are ally hubs ??????
  3. Okay so it was my birthday on friday and I had been saving up for these really beautiful wheels which I bought yesterday ..am now itching to put them on the bike the wheels are Mavic Crossmax SLRs ..I got them for an utterly ridiculous price ..regardless I have still put myself in the poor house and have this nagging feeling that I have done something wrong ... but I'm sure its buyers remorse.... so no one tell me anything bad about please them otherwise I feel ill enough already ...... anyway I need to put some bits on them namely a cassette, new discs and centerlock converters my questions are .... 1. the cassette - the cassttte on my current wheels is nearing replacement time anyway so has to be replaced ..I'm with a cheaper cassette for now namely a shimano hg50 or an hg61 what is the differance between them? besides a slight differance in price? I've had good experiance with the hg50 so I'd be happy with that if its just the weight of 100mls of beer differance... 2. Discs do I have to use discs the same as what the make of brakes are eg only tektro discs with tektro brakes or will any discs do as long as they are 160 mm as is on the bike now? should I maybe just use exhisting discs which are not in fantastic condition.... 3.Centerlock converters - there seem to be a few out there and prices vary wildly from R150 rand to over R400 what would be the best price to quality ratio in the R200 bracket .. or does it not make that much differance at the end of the day Bear in mind that I although I got these wheels for an absolute steal I have still done serious damage to my bank balance and should probably not do anything with the wheels untill I actually do have money....but I cant take it they are screaming at me......and yes I know about the spokes.....but i couldnt resist..the price was just to good...
  4. Brilliant.... I'm going to upgrade my sad little 26er till it is a superbike then if someone tries to rob me of my bike up on the mountain I'll just choone them sorry guys its a 26er and they will run away screaming.......
  5. damn so I coulda gone riding after all spent the day getting sorting out the room for a new arrival due in dec....
  6. sounds like a not good idea .. well guess I should rather wait till the shops open and fix then ...
  7. I have busted another spoke on my crappy wheels and it looks like there might be a gap in the crappy weather today ..question will it be ok to ride the bike with a busted spoke or will it damage the wheel beyond repair ..its not touching the frame ...close but not quite.. and yes I know I should replace these crappy wheels I'm actually trying to save up some money so that by around dec I should be able to buy something decent but the saving thing doesnt appear to be going to well....
  8. Oh goody my thread is still going ....what a hoot some of you guys are an absolute scream. Johan let us know how the ride with flats goes.... I must go clean my bike now I would like to go for a spin this afternoon even though the weather looks seriously dodge up there....brrrrr
  9. Everybody do what you want...I'm not going to tell anyone how/what to use/ride their bike.. what I was trying to say is that they shouldn't just write off flats outright ..... just like I shouldn't write off spds or what ever outright .. there are 2 sides to the debate. It is one of my faviroute debates however..... now what we really need is inflatable pods for when you fall in the river attached to your bike....
  10. maybe you were destined to fall anyway only now you are attached so now you have to detach yourself before you drown in said river......
  11. Latest ride magazine page 74 Shimano m520 spd pedals They state and I quote "Contradictory as it may sound riding clipped in is safer than with flat (non clipped pedals." How can they state something so blatantly untrue, a bald faced outright lie. Are they being paid by the manufacturers or something. I'm sorry in my opinion there is no way that that statement holds true. Bear in mind that the article is aimed at those are going to try mountain biking for the first time. The general consensus has been get used to riding with flats first then move to clips ..personally I enjoy my riding so much more with flats I will probably never move to clips or spds or whatever the hell everyone else is supposedly using because its the done thing. To put a person off riding flats outright like that is just wrong ......Right now where is my flame suit ...ah there in the cupboard let me just get it on....
  12. whats happening there is like a low intensity war in most countries they would send the army in to deal with the kind of s**t that these people live with. Here we have 2 problems 1.our politicians particulary the ruling ones are a bunch of S***s and 2. our army is not what it should be ..the thing is a lot of these guys have been in prison so they have been caught ..another solution would be to bump these guys off while they are in prison oops he slipped in the shower .. sigh one can dream can't one I suppose that would be violating their right to kill and steal and take drugs ..sigh
  13. where I stay in our road about 8 of the more or less twenty houses are occupied all the time next door to me 2 houses are used as small run from home bushinesses nothing obtrusive or irritating. A man from our armed response company stays accoss the road .. our armed response company headquarters are 2 minutes away. They get to our property before they get their call to us about 2 min. then there are the people watching from the mountain that I didn't even know about and only found when one of their guys sent a warning that there was a group of guys looking into cars outside my house ..added to all this it is not an affluent area or I don't quite know how to put it ..for example if they broke into our house they would be very disapointed as we don't have all fancy stuff I think my bike might be the most valuable thing in the house and that is only worth about R3g second hand the laptops are ancient and 2 are infested with viruses the tv is so old it should be in a museum the DVD player is one of those R200 jobs but about 8 years old our HI Fi now thats a good joke I doubt they would get much for that maybe R50 lol and thats it no jewelry no no satelites etc . When I've had guys come to do work here I can hear them thinking wtf theres nothing to steal.... of course now that I've said this all I'd better touch wood theres some demented tikoppe out there that'll literally kill you for 20c...
  14. Can't say I've ever noticed my cheapo crappo WTB's flexing ....a bit bent and buckled yes but flexing ...maybe I will go to the garage now and check....btw thank goodness for disc brakes, nowdays we only have to have the wheels straightened when thay start touching the frame lol
  15. are you all into yoda turning?
  16. if only there were less cars with mad people behind the wheel on the roads to run us over
  17. saw the cape town leg and they were absolutely brilliant.
  18. my only problem with Faerie Garden is that blutty bridge going down for some reason I have never managed to get ir right and I have gotten sick of falling in the river so I just walk over it now ...to hell with my ego..lol other than that faerie garden can be great fun in fact I end off all my rides at tokai with it and some days it all comes together and flows other days I end up in the tree's but thats mountainbiking I guess ...having said that I think I have fallen off more times at faerie garden than anywhere else at tokai....but never anything serious... touch wood..
  19. of course its got those cool strappy thingys on the pedals man....lol
  20. nope definately not ..not at those prices .....10 grand for a huffy.. ?????? what have they been smoking? http://www.wantitall.co.za/bicycle/All/p1#p1
  21. thanks for all the advice guys but I had to call off the deal .. A week or so ago my youngest kid (6yrs) crushed his fingers under a rock and needed emergancy surgery to fix them up ...got some of the bills this morning and you can guess ..not all covered by medical aid either ..micro surgery = macro bills ..so I won't be buying any bike bits for a little while ..solves the problem with the hubs though I just grease them and ride them until they seize...
