  1. the rule is simple really, you cannot be in contact with the ball and the ground beyond the boundary line at the same time. of course you can parry the ball back to complete the catch yourself, or for the catch to be completed by a team mate, provided you are not grounded beyond the boundary line when in the act of parrying and whoever completes the catch is legally within the field of play. he was in the air when he parried the ball back to his buddy, thus the catch stands. personally I don't see the confusion - player never had contact with the ball and ground (beyond boundary line) at the same time - easy! some might disagree with it, but thats ok, the rules will always upset some people, god knows why they just cannot accept the rules for being the rules. [yes, I completed a level 2 umpiring course before I played semi pro cricket in England... ]
  2. Pieter Malan, post match interview: "Somebody asked me earlier about being out there and feeling pressure, but that's not pressure ... that's privilege," he said, providing easily the quote of the series so far. "Pressure is playing in a semi-professional game with nobody watching, fighting for your career." Jasss... I like what he said there. https://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/EnglandinSA/malans-powerful-distinction-between-pressure-and-privilege-20200109
  3. https://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/EnglandinSA/stokes-makes-case-for-test-cricket-as-debate-rages-over-5-day-format-20200109 "Kohli spoke earlier this month about his opposition to any move to cut a day from Tests, questioning where it would ultimately lead. With four-day Tests "you are purely only talking about getting numbers in and entertainment, and I think the intent will not be right," said the India skipper. "Then you will speak of three-day Tests. I mean, where do you end?" For once I agree with Kohli. The days free'd up by reducing test cricket to 4 days will inevitably be taken up by limited overs cricket. It still amazes me that the PLAYERS all love and cherish the PUREST form of the game, yet the administrators are trying to change the format. Test cricketers LOVE the game, that's why they play it, and I can say that because if they wanted to earn good money they would do what others are doing and become a free agent and play Parkie Cricket (T20) all over the world. My disdain for T20 aside, it has its place and should be used as a vehicle to support cricket GLOBALLY. At the end of the day, for me test cricket sums up why we all start off doing sport: because we have fallen in love with the particular activity. And that's why I will always love Test Cricket the most. I mean, how many sports do you know of where after 5 days of playing, it can come down to a couple of deliveries to determine a winner??? And let's not forget the Timeless Test in Durban in 1939, after 9 days of play (over 12 days, no cricket on Sundays those days), the game had to be called as a draw as the English needed to board their ship home. And then there was the test where England set us 458 back in 2013, which divided a nation as we ended up SO close in achieving what would have been a monumental fete, to fall just short. And of course Faf and ABD's blockathon in Adelaide in 2012... Day/night test matches have added a nice flavour, I enjoy it, much like a test wicket deteriorating over 5 days bringing the spinners more into the game, the D/N test brings with it it's own unique nuance when considering the influence of the change of lighting conditions combined with the pink ball. I don't like cricket, I love it!
  4. Hahaha ja i forgot about that one! ????????????????????
  5. To be honest with you Dale, all Buttler really did was embarrass himself, because that was a k_k chirp! If that’s the best he can come up with, he should rather keep quiet. ????
  6. Two of the best chirps on record are probably where a bowler was chirping a batsman on why he is so fat. The batter’s response was: everytime i $&@ your wife she gives me a cookie! The other one was Eddo Brandes replying to Glenn Mcgrath or someone when he quipped: hows your wife and my kids? Eddo replied, my wife’s fine, the kids are retarded. Of course Merv Hughes also has a couple of great ones: he once asked a batsman what’s with the piece of sh_t at the end of his bat? Batsman looked at the toe end of his bat, all confused, when Merv replied: not that end, the other end! Like i said, it happens.
  7. I can promise you a lot worse gets said without it ever being aired. Test cricket is as much a mental test as it is a test of your ability to play the game. I’m pretty sure these guys all sit in the changeroom afterwards sharing a couple of cold ones. What happens on the field generally stays on the field. Unless you are David Warner.
  8. I'm with you Stretch, it's part and parcel of test cricket. It was a bit silly to have broadcast that bit of sledging, whether by accident or design. Move on, it's not like they were lining each other up in the clubhouse like in 2018 with the Convicts.
  9. oh for FAF's sake....
  10. agreed, Faf is due. situations like this is what he became famous for, time to dig deep and dish up another one.
  11. agreed, i've never come across anyone so in love with the sound of his own fake pommie accent...
  12. haha! it's going to be a riveting day's cricket. glued to my iphone, except the sound is muted when KP comes on - oh my woollie sack he is annoying...
  13. Im just taking the Mickey. Scooter was class, pure talent! But he had a reputation around club cricket specifically, and then of course his famous comment after the 438 victory.
  14. Fair point about Dwaine, somehow i confused him with Wihan Mulder. In my defence he is young in terms of international cricket. My bad, Shebeen you have outplayed me today ???? JK is the King. He was such a huge player for us its scary!
  15. he needs booze money i suppose haha
  16. Gibbs is still babbelas
  17. haha, just love when Sally goes all nuts not even looking at the umpire when he appeals for LBW, then convinces Root to go for the review and the first thing that pops up is an inside edge... HAHA
  18. Elgar, first ball he goes at one about 3 feet outside his off stump with 3 slips and a gully waiting, gets 2 runs... #confused
  19. Hahahaha
  20. Firstly, you have to take the commentary from whence it comes: when the poms are on top, they are excellent at whatever they touch according to their pundits. But when they are struggling, they are crap at everything. Specially Nasser the Beak, he is so quick to change his position. Athers not far behind wining when they lose but praising their every move when they are on top. Second, our bowling yesterday was average at best. VDP apparently woke up feeling ill, and tbh he can only ever really bowl with the new ball, he doesnt sommer bowl after the 20th over. I feel we lacked the proper game plan with Maharaj. bowling into that ruff outside the righthanders leg stump, you need to give him a leg slip and or leg gully, and plug the offside field. that is a tactic used extensively by the Indian spinners, and it works. our seemers also failed to bowl a consistent line and length, possibly due to uncertainty wrt whatever Faf's gameplan was. KG looked flat for most of the day, Nortje tried hard but lacked the backup from the other end. Pretorius had an off day, which is going to happen, he is still young. Thirdly, with the game situation being what it was after we got bowled out, by tea yesterday it should have been obvious that we will have to rethink our tactics. In my view we should have started to throttle the poms, give them no runs, play boring cricket by bowling maiden after maiden after maiden. This does 2 things, it makes it more difficult for them to accelerate their innings allowing them more time to bowl at us in the 4th innings, and it also keeps us in the game because they are not running away with it which is what we saw happen last night and this morning. this tactic could frustrate them into making mistakes as they are clearly very keen to win this test match because they are trailing 1-0 in the series. So I don't know, sometimes I wonder how the seemingly obvious goes amiss like that, even with all the experts and legends now in charge. possibly it doesn't go amiss and it is just down to poor execution??? or maybe its just me...
  21. https://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/EnglandinSA/opinion-anger-at-bavuma-dropping-is-misplaced-20200103 "Instead of taking issue with the fact that Bavuma was dropped, those who have been angered should rather question the fact that there are limited black African players knocking on the Test door. That is the real issue here, because it speaks to a quota system in domestic cricket that is clearly not producing the players it was designed to." Cannot argue with this point, it just epitomizes the lack of work done by the crooks in charge at CSA, and also the ineffectiveness of a system designed to appease the masses in the short term in stead of laying the foundation to produce quality cricketers in the long run. I am all for a demographically representative team, but the players have to be produced through an effective system, not fast tracked to make up numbers/win votes. The Springboks have proven what can well be achieved. Anyway, bummed to be at work since yesterday and not at my usual spot at Newlands... Stokes out! Yesss, the last time he played at Newlands he and Jonny moered us to all corners! - (the little I can remember...) Joe Root has got to be relieved of the England Captaincy. For his own sake and also the team's. Tactically I find him wanting, and it is clear his batting is suffering. That is of course, if you want the poms to do well
  22. I have to concur with most of the things you said. I also feel that way over ABD. It will send the wrong message to youngsters, move on, find new talent. I am so chuffed over the decision to make Biff the DoC. He has been through the mill as captain of the Proteas, dealing with all the politics and so on. I really feel that he will make a big impact, if left to do things his way, just like he did with the captaincy when he took over from Polly. I am quietly optimistic about the way things have panned out. It's just a pity it took so long, but I guess it needed the major sponsors to start making a noise for change to happen. All that remains now is to get rid of Nenzani and the rest of the corrupt board members!
  23. David Gilmour... just wow! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTseTg48568
  24. I agree. Braindead imbecile should be tied to a post and left to starve of hunger in a lion camp, let nature take its course. I'm having difficulty restraining my emotions today, this is just so wrong on so many levels.
  25. It goes to show, there is hope even when the light at the end of the tunnel often times look more like that of an approaching train! Awesome inspiration for those struggling to stay positive. Lekker!
