Where in Cape Town is this?
they are situated in the business park in Observatory opposite the River Park
Hi,
Yesterday I did the Bouckaert-Soenen 72km and all was fine with the bike apart from the brake incident which was my own idiocy. After the lucky draw, I saw the chain had come off the front rings. I battled to put it back on, and once I had, noticed this piece of metal with the word 'token' on it sticking though the chainring. Does anyone have an idea as to its purpose? I'm not sure if it bent while I was attempting to put the chain back on. I also can't find any images of derailleurs with a piece like that. This is a Sora derailleur on a Silverback Strela 3.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
Thanks.

Hi There
Looks like its is a chain catcher that has bent.
Just remember that not all stems have the gap at TDC (top dead centre) so if you're measuring off a gap that isn't at TDC you have to think for a bit before clamping.
Thanks armpies, havent thought of that and looks as if the gap is at TDC, so should make it easier.
Only used the term TDC when setting my ignition timing on my car...lol
0 degrees at horizontal is the normal reference point...
Cool! thanx again droo.
Yes, they give you a reference so that once you've found your comfortable setting you don't have to do the trial and error thing again.
Thanks droo
I am trying to get the most neutral position for these h/bars in order to benefit from the 5 degree sweep. I am of the opinion that the '0' mark should be lined up with the joint gap on the stem.
Hi
I went from a 26 F/S to a 29er H/T only because I wanted to increase my mileage and fitmess levels. It made me faster on the hills and definately made me aware on the bike for things I would normally take for granted on trail riding a F/S.
I have since moved from a 29er Alu to Carbon.
It all depends what your goals are and if you intending doing stage races. Comfort would be a sacrifice in this regard.
Nice! Enjoy...
Thanx WrightJnr
Hi Guys
On the eve of the festive season and as the sun came up on my summer holiday training season I had an incident at the Big Read Barn on one of those hectic down hill sections.
Needless to say I sustained some damage.
I took my bike to Hannes at Hot Spot Cycles (Pretoria) on Monday, he assessed the damage and quoted me in respect of same. I service my bike there regularly and his service and attitude is truly excellent and unparalleled.
Thereafter I lodged the claim with King Price today, also with a guy called Hannes. It must not have been 30 min when he returned my call confirming that all was in order, the admin was completed and that I may proceed to instruct Hot Spot to fix my bike and that they would pay the amount due by them (the invoice amount excluding my minute excess) to me on this coming Monday.
In my experience, when compared to other service providers, I received quick, efficient, seamless service and value (for money) from both the aforesaid service providers.
Usually I do not have a lot of praise to sing for insurance companies, especially when I read other posts of guys' past experiences with their insurers.
I have been with King Price now for approximately 1 year. This was my first claim instituted and if everything continues and remains as seamless as my experience of today, I may very well undergo a change of heart. I can truly recommend King Price.
I am really impressed! Excellent service! Well done guys!
Cheers and safe cycling
Thats perfect customer service, excellent.
authorisation within 30 minutes is unheard of theses days.
I had to wait 20 days for a payout from an unWyze Insurance Co.
Olympic cycles and revolution cycles had the ODI grips
Hey okes
Help - any great ideas to getting Joes/Stans off your rims? I have just built up a new wheelset and put on my existing Tubeless tyres and needless to say the solution went all over the rim.
So i wipe it off with a clean rag - but it just goes all sticky and now i need to like pick it off by hand!
What a HACK! - and its a BRAND NEW set of rims - so i want them looking shiny!
I tried some Cobra polish but the dried solution just laughed at me.
Any ideas?

Hi
So I got the above wheel. I was riding AM'S before, tried fitting the HED and they too broad. Even if I open the calliper with release. What now?
If it is adjusted, will I have to go through this every time I change from HED to AM's?
Apparantly thats the only option with the new wider rims esp HED
Sorry to hear Meezo
I know the area, so will throw word out to some "guys" who owe me a favour and who frequent the smokkies in Hanover Park.
Also try looking in the informal settlement next to Gatti's Ice Cream.
So I did the 15hr lower service for my Fox forks and I see for the second time my foam rings on the lowers are looking dry and manky, gave them a good clean and relubed but how much oil should I now put into the lower legs before assembly? Seems to be anywhere form 5ml onwards, I used 5ml last time but it seems as though its not enough to keep those foam rings full of oil?
Man, I am starting to miss my RS Reba now....!
Forgot to mention its a F32RL
Hi Mojoman
Please find attached guide for oil levels.(as taken from the Fox site)
8) 2002-2009 F100 & F90
(O/B R, RL, RLC, RLT & Remote dampers)
FOX Green 10 wt. Damper-side oil bath 155.0 ml Spring-side oil bath 20.0 ml
FOX Float Fluid Air Chamber 5.0 ml
Hope this works.
Also have you presoaked the foam rings?
The bike parts are propably on three different bikes...so if anybody sees a Nishiki with Spez parts notify the cops!I didn't say it.....
Seriously, he is still trading with a smile.
so it was like a pawn deal? he borrowed R7.5k and put his bicycle up as collateral? He didn't pay back the loan in time and so the guy kept the bike?
Pawn Deal or buy back, the principle remains the same. and if you want to get really technical the invoice doesn't have any terms or conditions listed.
But I guess that's how it goes.
its a business deal and not a gentleman's agreement.
sad thing thing is this friend of mine loves cycling, and its his way of escaping the hardships of daily living.
Epic rear shock issues

Had the same issue on my 2020 Spez Epic but with Rockshox rear Brain. The Brain fade failed after 45 hours of riding taking into account lockdown since March 2020. The shock wouldn't "lockout" in its firm setting. Luckily bike comes with 2 free shock services within a 2 year period or serviced every 6 months of extensive use or 200 hours of use.
Recieved shock back last week and all is well but riding on eggs with each bump that I experience.
If you have a look on the web you will find a number of Spez owners having the same issues.
I'm personally quite speculative on the reliability of this proprietary part and the fact that it could fail without warning.
