  1. You might not be able to keep up with them on the trail...... but keep the final party in mind It could be nice with all those lovely legs ladies!!
  2. Hi Captain M The routes will be prodominantly the same as last year, with the exception of stage 2. We have found another mountain, which is a lot more rideable , but just as rewarding as going up Hog 2. Stage 2 will be a bit longer than last year though..... so softer, but longer. More enjoyable!!
  3. Hi Kosmonooit The TV coverage for a stage race like ours costs in the region of R100k !! So, to answer your question part of the cost comes from sponsorships, and part from entry fees. Getting a race on TV is crazy expensive! But it is the only way to grow the race, and it is a nice reminder for the riders of how nice it was, and the back markers can see what was going on at the sharp end of the race.
  4. Just remember : Entries are opening for non-2010 participants on the 15th March!! So you'll have to act quick to get in!! And yes there is going to be TV coverage again!
  5. Dude!! Have you seen the BizHub Ladies!! What more can I say...... The racing will be HOT!!
  6. Hay Captain! At the moment you'll just have to hold thumbs till the 15th I'm sure there will still be space, but you'll have to act quick. For interest: Dr Evil (Leon Evans) has entered again!! And we've received similar requests to yours from Ben Melt and the BizHub Ladies!!!! Seems like this year the racing will be HOT!!!
  7. Hay JaRk Don't stress too much about it being a stage race. If you can complete a 3-4hour MTB marathon, and are fairly used to training on consecutive days, you will be OK doing your first stage race. About the route though: our motto in creating the routes for the LotCR is not to be an ultra endurance event, although we do want to take the riders to awesome places in the Hogsback area, so ther is some riding up mountain sides, and there is some bombing down mountains alongside massive waterfalls. But the routes are mostly jeep tracks and forest roads. Probably 15-20% of each day will be singletrack (or at least not be deemed a road or traversable by bakkie) . Our aim is to put riders in places where even the hard core racers will take notice and say "Good Grief!! Look where we are!!! Check that View/Waterfall) So Jark, don't stress you'll be fine with a fair amount of fitness!
  8. Entries are slowly but surely pouring in! It is actually so encouraging to see how eager last year's entrants are to get back in Thanks guys for the support!!

  12. Hi Guys!! I just noticed all these cool comments about the Lord of the Chain Rings event. Thanks!! I see the only concern is about the portage section on day 2. Well, our scout-master dr. Fick'n'Evil has just come back from a very successful scouting weekend in Hogsback, and has managed to find a AWESOME new loop to replace most of day 2's riding. Not that we say day 2 was too difficult. We just listened to our riders, and we are going to bypass the portage of stage 2 until we can get a proper ridable trail built over the mountain. But, as I say...... our scout master found an amazing mountain called Lowestoffe Mountain, which is 99% ridable!! And takes you to 1640m above sea level!! LotCR 2011 is going to be even better than 2010!
  13. Hay Jaq, you are quite right. There is a slight.... very slight discrepancy in the speed reading, dependant on the steepness of the gradient you are riding. The GPS calculates your distance as if looking straight from above, looking down at a map, so it does not take into account mr-Pythagoras's calculation. But, as I say, the discrepancy is VERY SMALL!! To give you an idea: if you do a 100km route, and your total ascent is 1400m, you can actually add the 1400m to your total, to give you a more accurate distance = 101.4km.
  14. Here are 2 links: Harkerville route info: Misty Mount Trails (in Tsitsikamma): Great route info and downloadable GPS files and Maps!!
  15. CRC also messed up a recent order of mine: I purchased about R3k's worth of bike bits that was sent in 3 boxes. CRC then put invoices showing the total cost of the purchase on all 3 boxes. Customs then thought there was R3k worth of goodies in EACH BOX!!! Ended up paying a monkey load extra, and customs said I would have to come up to them and prove the value of the items in the box if I did not want to pay. Paying the additional customs duty was cheaper than flight tickets from PE!!! CRC say they will reimburse me..... how I do not know yet!!
  16. Hay Kosmonooit! It is good to hear you have a edge 500! You must bring it along to the Lord of the Chain Rings, we will be downloading the routes on your device as courses. We don't want people to get lost unnecessarily and it will instill some confidence along the trail if you know precisely where on the route you are. Start practicing to use the courses function so long!
  17. Hi maddox There is a full route description and maps here: http://www.easterncapemountainbiking.co.za/index.php?page_name=route&route_id=33 as well as gps files.
  18. Hi Nomad978 Go to www.ecmtb.co.za this site has a whole section on wild coast mtb routes. And if the site does not have what you are looking for, then send an email to info@ecmtb.co.za and ask..... I know the entire imana route is available.
  19. Hay Shebeen! Did you get any responses to this totally outrageous idea?? Just asking, because I would give my left nut to go on an adventure like this . I have actually secretly been planning and plotting to try and figure out how I would be able to pull off such a stunt. I think I'm gonna PM you just to make sure you get this....
  20. For Sure!! See what she is all about over here: http://www.jolandie.co.za/
  21. Do you know Jolandi Rust?? She is the girl that cycled solo from JHB to Cape Town, then solo all the way around South Africa, and is now preparing to do it solo around the entire African Continent!! And in preparation for this, she is going to be doing the Lord of the Chain Rings 3 day mtb stage race in Hogsback. So if you would like to meet this amazingly driven person, and would like to find out what she is all about, this stage race will be an opportunity to really get up close and personal!! Go take a look at the race info here: Lord of the Chain Rings or follow the thread under events.
  22. Do any of you remember the Spike Bike chronicles? It's about a cyclist that goes Rambo on car drivers. It was a bit of an internet phenomenon in the late 90's.
  23. What is the recommended retail of a set of ImpactRX's with optically corrected lenses (let's say the photochromic clear)?
  24. Think if I bring my bike, they'll wash that too??
